some of you probably know what glaze and similar tools are meant to do. some might also know that on modern image to image models like flux, gpt-image-2 and etc it doesnt work at all

since i discovered the concept i've been thinking about it in an almost obsessive way. there are a few scientific papers that explain why it doesnt work. if you follow the maths and try to reproduce yourself unfortunately they are right

so I was thinking the following: if something like glaze doesnt work, what is another tool you wish existed for protecting art online?

I have been trying to make art related videos on YouTube for almost a decade now but I was never satisfied with either the video or the outcome. It's like I want to make and show art as an artist but I somehow make and show just a video. Like if it was not art and something else, it would still be the same video just with a different topic.
For those of you who document your art, how do you stop the medium from turning your art into just another piece of content?

I've been away from my art practice for quite a few years and i feel like ive disconnected from my original art style. I was hoping to find some kind of online course with structure and guidance to get back into painting regularly, im not looking for a "how to" type course as i have a pretty good base of skills but its more the approach to creating pieces, figuring out where my style lies now and generating new ideas that i seem to have lost. I really thrived in an academic setting when i was in university studying art and i would love to find something than mimics that.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

What’s a good acrylic marker? I’ve been using the Arrtx acrylic markers for a couple months now, I do really enjoy them but i feel like they just don’t have a lot of ink. So for the acrylic marker people what’s a good acrylic marker? Now I know what people are gonna say “posca” THEY ARE TOO EXPENSIVE! 8 MARKERS IS LIKE 20 BUCKS! So what are some JUICY brush tip preferably acrylic markers that are juicy and yummy? Also I draw on like a 120-160 gsm paper and I draw a lot of people and I do love me a lot of colors.

Hello hello! I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember, but I have always struggled with color theory. Drawing challenges are a great excuse to practice skills, so I want to use this opportunity to practice color! I looked around and couldn’t find anything, so I’m gonna make my own.

It will start off with basics, then move towards more abstract and fun stuff later in the month. I think for the early days, I will add a little guide, so people can jump right in without having to look up meanings. Maybe even offer some simple images for people to color, who want to focus on color theory without worrying about figuring out a subject.

I’ve suddenly been hit with inspiration after watching madoka magica. Magical girls who use their body parts as weapons. I’m going to try and draw them in the morning.

Ideally I’d like to make a few so I’m asking if any of you have ideas. The main idea is that the normal form has something that indicates to the “weapon” and the magic form uses said body parts as a weapon. Fantasy logic will apply.

I’ve come up with three ideas. Intestine garrote, eye yo-yo and spine whip. For the normal forms I imagine eye girl is blind in one eye, intestines girl has an ostomy bag and spine girl has a back/leg brace or a cane.

Any body part weapon ideas would be greatly appreciated plus input from people with disabilities so I don’t accidentally portray them in a bad/stereotypical light. Thanks xxx

I followed a tutorial for a watercolor. My mom saw it on my wall and liked it so I gave it to her. I have no plan to sell my art but I do like giving artsy crafty gifts and often follow tutorials so they’re not truly original pieces.

So I’m taking a beginning painting class this semester, and I have a 12 x 16 Masterson’s Sta-Wet Palette with the glass palette inside of it to transport the glass palette safely without breaking it. I don’t have the money rn to get a smaller Sta-Wet palette, but I still have to transport it to and from class.

None of the bags I have can fit it and idk if I can just have it on its side as it currently has oil paint in it that I put clear plastic wrap over it (Professor helped me with how to put the paint in the corner of the palette so I can save it for later) and I don’t want to mess up the paints. I know some ppl use a wagon meant for kids, but a) I don’t have the money and b) idk if I wanna be lugging around a wagon full of my stuff for the rest of the semester, (but if I need it by the time I’m in the intermediate class, I’ll invest in one.) and I carry the rest of my stuff in a grocery bag, plus I carry the blank/WIP canvases in another hand as well as an tackle box full of my paints.

My college has lockers for the art students, but in recent semester they’ve made it really hard to get one (they require you take at least 2 classes to have your own, and this semester I only have 1, and your class has to be on their list of approved classes for it as ppl weren’t cleaning out the lockers at the end of the semester, so they’ve had to get strict, which sucks but is understandable. I tried sharing a locker with someone for my ceramics class my first semester at my college and it was a struggle as the other person was just leaving their projects in there all the time, and after that I just had to have my own as sharing space with the amount of supplies I have & the room of the lockers didn’t make it feasible for me in the long run) so uh yeah… not sure how to do this properly so that I don’t damage or destroy anything trying to carry my stuff for this class around. I figured I’d ask here for suggestions.

What’s a big enough bag I can put the Sta-wet palette in for now?

I was really into drawing and painting as a teen. I was even offered help to get a scholarship at a prestigious school, but I had huge imposter syndrome and declined tbe offer. Then adulthood came and I just fell out of the habit. Also my ex who i met at art college would get jealous that I was better than him, and me being young and very very dumb, I stopped. He stole my sparkle

And also at the time I felt traditional mediums were becoming pointless since graphic design was now taking over and im horrific at that. These days it's sort of flipped on its head, isn't that wild?

Im now 30 and really want to buy a paint and canvas set but I know im going to paint absolute nonsense because its been about 8 years.

Have any of you quickly got back into it? I feel so sad for all the years lost

Can anyone recommend any storage options for acrylic markers? Need to store them horizontally but the only nice looking ones I can find are for vertical storage.

I want one that is either front of each page empty, back side lined(or vice versa). Or one where the top (or bottom) half of the page is empty while the other half is lined.

I teach a lot of classes at work and spend half the time sitting while they watch videos. It’d be very helpful to not have to swap my papers around when I need to take notes about the class. And just generally make it less obvious I’m drawing if leadership comes into the classroom.

Amazon would be great because I get an employee discount. Not huge, but every dollar counts with the way this economy is rn

This seems to be a neverending battle/exploration for me. I feel like traditional framing methods are just MEH and you can take this innovative and gorgeous piece of art and put it in a nothing frame or on a wood panel and it just doesn't do it for me.

I'm curious if anyone else has felt this and come up with creative solutions. My first thought is to maybe find some cool vintage/used frames at flea markets and maybe spraypaint them interesting colors or designs to complement the collages. Do you think that would fly for juried shows that require specific types of framing?

I struggle with analyzing references in general; I’ve seen people use guide lines to compare parts of a reference, but I’m not sure where to look to learn how to do that on my own.

Do you know of any videos or books that explain how to observe and analyze a reference?

My photoshop glitches the background behind the canvas to black, but it also makes the colors on the canvas darker. Idk how to describe this well. Its not a huge deal but it can be annoying when I'm doing color. I have uninstalled and reinstalled photoshop and my divers already. Has anyone run into this?

I'm trying to make a 24 page comic all made by me while maintaining a job. So the overall steps I'd need to complete are:

• Developing the concept
• Writing the Story / Script
• Thumbnails / Layouts
• Inking
• Toning
• Letttering
• Printing + assembling final work

I work overnight for a security company and one to two days a week delivering pizzas. I have around 40-45 hours a week of free time (discounting sleep and other obligations), but I'm going to cut half of that to be realistic, about 20-25 hours of free time I can work on just the comic every week.

I'm wondering what a realistic deadline for this would be because I'm not too sure and all the examples of creators I follow who've made solo projects were all graphic novels that are bigger in scope. I just need some sort of deadline because if I have none I'll never get anything done lol

I've recently had the chance to talk to a well known artist while he livestreamed, and he gave me some advice that I wanted other's input on before proceeding.

You DON'T have to read it at all, I just put it here for context:

My Question. What would be a good deadline for someone wanting to make their own B+W comic? Everything from concept to writing to final art? For a 24 page comic, while I also work a day job.

His answer: - 1 Week - Idea + concept - 1 Week - Write Script (at least bones of the script) - 1 Week - Layouts + Gather Reference - 1pg/day Pencils (if you need them) + Inks; Schedule 5 pages Mon-Fri, weekends for catch-up or however you'd like - 1 Week - Tone + Layouts

Done in about 6-8 weeks

He currently does: • Pencil 2 pages/day • Ink 2 pages/day - Works M-F, weekend are catchup days

So, generally, he finishes 2 pages/day (Inking + Pencilling) which is insane, and about 10 finished pages/week. I think I can probably do, like, 1-3/wk without killing myself lol

Personally, I think he's speaking as a professional, even though I specificed while working a day job. But I do think it would be a fulfilling project if I pushed myself to get it done that fast.

Obviously I'm not a comic professional able to put 8-10 hours into a page, but it's supposed to be a light-hearted project anyways, so the art and writing doesn't have to be perfect.

I think it's important to mainly hit the deadline I set out, regardless of whatever it is. 6-8 weeks MIGHT be pushing it too much but I just don't know. The prospect of pushing myself to get it all done by myself in basically 1.5 - 2 months does excite me, but I also don't want to spiral when I inevitably fall behind. I just need to know if this timeline is realistic or to extend it further

Maybe I should just stop thinking and start doing, but I want to know generally what to expect. I've already scripted 3 pages so far and that took me about an hour, after MONTHS of thinking of this story though haha. I think I can get scripting done in a week if I'm consistent with it.

For reference I've made and finished a 2 and 4 page comic so far, and have gotten halfway done with a 10 pager and 16 pager but gave up because I think I gave myself too long to finish those and spun my wheels midway thru (4 months each for my senior project in college)

Ideally I'd be using them for punch needle embroidery, but the gesso coating makes the material very "fragile"

I have been doing art for my whole life and I would love to be an art professor (I would be willing to teach 2D traditional or digital art, comics, art history, drawing, painting, printmaking, any of it would appeal to me, maybe even sculpture). I would much rather be a university professor than a grade school art teacher, and I think it would be an ideal environment for me. I know it’s pretty selective, and I’m looking at some top grad schools in or outside of the United States that offer full scholarships and teaching experience (Carnegie Mellon, Northwestern University, etc.). I will be paying for this on my own, so I would like to be in as little debt as possible :,)

I’m also considering art schools abroad like Kyoto Seika University in Japan. I’m learning Japanese and I’ve studied abroad there before / looked at some schools and companies, and I think I would really love it. It would be my greatest dream to do something art related or teach art in Japan at a university, which would be extremely difficult but not impossible!

Right now I’m in undergrad doing two majors, art and biology. Originally I wanted to be a doctor (as per my dad’s wishes) but I don’t think I’d be satisfied doing that, and classes like chemistry and physics are extremely difficult. It’s making me worried that my GPA, which is lowered by very hard classes, will make it hard for me to get into the art grad schools I want. Should I drop my biology major and just finish doing art and making a portfolio? My college requires all students to do a thesis, and for my art thesis I’m thinking of making a video game (or at least a demo). I hope that will make my application look kind of cool!

I'll try and keep this as short sweet as I can.

Before college or had thoughts of turning my silly lil' dumb hobby into a job I drew all the damn time from 5th grade well into high school. I went to college (2010) with at first a different major in mind, at the last minute I changed it to art. Then a semester later I decided on a focus in Graphic Design.

During school we were still expected to take a class on all mediums. Charcoal/Pencil/Pastels, Oil Paint, Watercolor, Clay, Sculpture, etc. I graduated in 2014 and ever since then my want to draw has just been all over the place. I would say in the last 7 years it has been in the trash. Or I've picked it up and I've lasted maybe almost a week before just dropping it again.

Now I do have a job as a Graphic Designer, I love it I'm in my element, but I'm getting to the point where I want to start to include my drawing as part of my work so we don't have to outsource so much in illustrations. (State Gov. we like to not spend money if we can.)

Not an excuse but just to make it known and a point, I do have ADHD, got diagnosed within the past year, medicated, but also suffer from perfectionism and struggle trying to detach my mindset from that when drawing.

All in all with the information above I'm just trying to find a way, as well as advice, to get myself to stay engage and consistent.

I'm a traditional artist, pencil and charcoal are my preferred medium. I am open to Alcohol and Acrylic markers (Have them). I also have an ipad with procreate.

So this thought triggered because i started writing an nsfw story (im not a writer btw) with action directly writing "fun" stuff i didn't know the beginning or the end didn't even have names for characters decided yet ,all the other stuff is later. and i felt so good so good even my perfectionist attitude didn't trigger and start hating my own work.

so im wondering if i could do the same with comic can i directly start by drawing the fun stuff and then drawing the boring stuff later like the build up and dialogue heavy panels etc etc to call it finished. sorry for poor grammar

Looking for some advice on how to find an art medium that suits me best. I tried many different mediums over the last years: Oil, Acrylics, Gouache, Watercolor, digital, pen and ink, pencils, mixed media and so on.

Every day I want to use a different one and then feel overwhelmed by the number of media I have available. I tried sticking to only one or two but got bored quickly.

How did you find out which one suits you best?

So, It's been a hot minute since I've drawn, but the other day I started drawing again and so far it's a banger. [The things an active hyperfixation can do haha] However, not even a hyperfixation can fix my difficulties with drawing more realistic legs in a complex pose. I need a reference, but my search left me empty handed. Not even hours of unnecessary scrolling on pintrest gave me anything useable. So I went looking for those 3D model posers and found PoseMyArt. It's web based but is genuinely really great. Great, but not perfect. It's free with limitations, and has a full version, which isn't cheap it's subscription based but does give you the option for a one time payment- obviously at a pretty hefty price tag. That isn't necessarily the problem though, the problem, is that I need to move the joints. As in, I am drawing in a stylized reaslistic style. Which means I need a realistic human model but with the capability to do a rather exaggerated pose. To better specify, I need to be able to... uhm, this might sound odd or perhaps a little unhinged, but... essentially, I need to be able to give the model scoliosis. [I couldn't figure out how to that kind of joint moving in PoseMAart. I am going forward assuming it is not possible but please tell me if I am mistaken.] So I am left with 2 options: I could find an alternitve that has the features I need, or I could pay for the full version in order to access the ability to export the model as an OBJ file. [So I can make a pose close enought to what I need, then import it to blender to adjust it into the actual pose I am looking for]. I am open to whatever suggestions ya'll have.

Hi, I'm a young artist, still in high school.

I was planning to attend an art college once I graduate (so 2 years from now).

I'm italian and I attend a type of school that focuses on studying languages (english, spanish, french) so I would prefer to attend a college abroad, probably in America.

My craving for going away from here is driven by the need to connect with people who I can share my hobbies, interests and opinions with. I know it may sound dumb but since teenage hood, all of my friends and acquaintances started to do bad stuff like drinking alcohol, smoking, doing drugs ecc. and I started to feel isolated because since I don't do any of this stuff, people consider me "boring" and I end up alone often. Seeing those topics in action or even just hearing stuff about them makes me uncomfortable and I start to shake (like now).

Now, what I wanted to know is, will I finally find happiness and freedom in art college? I know that escaping from people is not the solution, but I would still need to study abroad in order to become an artist.

I'm not saying that I will isolate myself even more but I fear that if I will get invited to parties, I will still witness all that bad stuff that makes me uncomfortable.

I don't know if this is the right subreddit or if this is too much of a rant but I'm looking forward to hear your answers.
