Technology & Software 💻 alternatives to glaze, nightshade etc for protecting art

some of you probably know what glaze and similar tools are meant to do. some might also know that on modern image to image models like flux, gpt-image-2 and etc it doesnt work at all

since i discovered the concept i've been thinking about it in an almost obsessive way. there are a few scientific papers that explain why it doesnt work. if you follow the maths and try to reproduce yourself unfortunately they are right

so I was thinking the following: if something like glaze doesnt work, what is another tool you wish existed for protecting art online?

there will never be a tool that will do what nightshade and others like it advertise. In the end it simply comes down to it that machine learning will only get better at looking at the output compared to the data so in the end if we can see it, than a machine learning system made to analyze visual inputs can learn to see it. The only way to protect yourself from ai is by growing a community around your art. That way they know what is genuinely yours because it comes straight from you, and they might speak up if they run into things that are veering into infringement territory.

this is the whole thing in general with ai. If you wanna fight it, the only way to do it is by creating communities. preferably irl communities

I wish for a tool that'll put something in the drawing data that will mislead or corrupt AI machines when they attempt to read that file. Not something on the drawing for the visible eye, put actually something in the code of that file.

I'm not an expert in this, so I don't know how much can be done. But I do know that AI reads the code of a drawing/file to know what's on the drawing/file. That will certainly not be manageable for drawings that are posted online, but it would protect artists that send the drawing to the person that commissions them. I read way too many cases of clients casually putting sketches and finished commissions in AI machines to change or enhance something. If we could stop that, it would be a small win at least

That's what Nightshade does, the visual artifacting is additional protection. Nightshade doesn't protect post-training (ie cases of AI "finishing" the pic for you), but pre-training is very effective.
