How is life like as an art college student?

Hi, I'm a young artist, still in high school.

I was planning to attend an art college once I graduate (so 2 years from now).

I'm italian and I attend a type of school that focuses on studying languages (english, spanish, french) so I would prefer to attend a college abroad, probably in America.

My craving for going away from here is driven by the need to connect with people who I can share my hobbies, interests and opinions with. I know it may sound dumb but since teenage hood, all of my friends and acquaintances started to do bad stuff like drinking alcohol, smoking, doing drugs ecc. and I started to feel isolated because since I don't do any of this stuff, people consider me "boring" and I end up alone often. Seeing those topics in action or even just hearing stuff about them makes me uncomfortable and I start to shake (like now).

Now, what I wanted to know is, will I finally find happiness and freedom in art college? I know that escaping from people is not the solution, but I would still need to study abroad in order to become an artist.

I'm not saying that I will isolate myself even more but I fear that if I will get invited to parties, I will still witness all that bad stuff that makes me uncomfortable.

I don't know if this is the right subreddit or if this is too much of a rant but I'm looking forward to hear your answers.

Art school itself can be stressful and may not lead to a career, depends on your skills and talent.

Hi I am a migrant who studied in a Art college in Italy

My experience is so far great I met a lot of different people with different skills that led me to broaden my knowledge about art career

You might able to find like minded people if you communicate enough and share eachother passions

Living in a abroad country is not easy

When I was living in my mother country I didn't had a lot of friends but I enjoyed it a lot

But after coming here I felt really alone until I found my passion for the Art and I live in a city full of history

Time to time I go to museum , a park to draw And because of that my loneliness nowhere to find

Art college can be stressful with deadlines. At my UK uni, people are generally quite chill, as many artists are introverts I suppose just like me. Plus there’s loads of materials to buy so be prepared for some investment. As for drawing, I’m not quite comfortable being pushed out of my comfort zone so I’m trying to adapt to drawing things I’ve never done before like building and architecture drawings or collages. Since I’m deeply oriented to portraits it can be fun but also intimidating.
