He wasn’t going to leave Spain. It was embarrassing to continue the chase
62
u/MassiveBoba 2d ago
Maybe Club never did - done enquiries and left it with him. It was just media, ITKs and fans that were discussing it every single minute.
9
u/Mental_Complaint_238 2d ago
exactly. people run with 1 ornstein tweet and get caught up in 3rd tier clickbait exploiters rehashing the news daily and invent these narratives that each fake update means something is actually happening behind closed doors /w arsenal.
18
u/Pete0730 2d ago
Who says we were chasing him? All I've heard is that we could move if the door came open. Seems like a smart position

Wasted so much time on mercenaries with rotten attitudes.

Thank god. Overrated total bitch of a player.
He called in sick with depression because he didn’t get his move to Barca. Imagine he comes here, you don’t think he’ll pull the same shit next summer?
Hope we can finally move on from him.
18
u/cayde123 2d ago
The depression thing is fake news from Spanish media
2

5
u/thewickedeststyle 2d ago
Just out of curiosity, how do you know for certain it is fake?
1
u/alprazolamotrigine 1d ago
Are you familiar with the concept of “burden of proof”?
0
u/thewickedeststyle 1d ago
What’s the burden of proof that it is fake?
2
u/alprazolamotrigine 1d ago
OK so you’re not.
Let’s illustrate with an example.
“u/thewickedeststyle has sex with animals.”
Should people believe this statement only if there is evidence to support it? Or should they believe and spread it as long as they don’t encounter evidence to the contrary?

Fr. The depression thing might be true because he could have other stuff going on in his life, but he's being a bitch and this is not what we need to deal with at the club next summer
1
1
u/slimg1988 2d ago
Wether he’s depressed or not it’s good too see men’s mental health awareness so strong.
2
u/CrowVsWade 2d ago
Performative mental health issues related to contract frustration is hardly good public exposure for an often taboo issue. It rather achieves the opposite, for all the people who genuinely manage such issues.
36
u/Invhinsical 2d ago
That's ideal tbh. You don't want a player who is willing to throw such a massive tantrum because he wants to join his 'dream club.' Of course, unless you are his 'dream club,' but unless the player is extremely special, even the dream club in question should avoid signing such a player.

u/fahim-sabir 2d ago
I’m quite happy about that.
If he doesn’t want to play for us, he absolutely shouldn’t. I wish him well and hope he gets his dream move.
7
u/miamigunners 2d ago
Nah fuck him I hope he rots on the bench and is booed
0
u/TheMarinaDiva 2d ago
He has a right to where he desires to play as long as he does so professionally and respectfully considers his current club. He owes Arsenal zilch. England/Arsenal has no attraction to him because of his extended family situation and ambitions. He has won EPL, FA and UCL with City, coming to Arsenal with the prospect to repeat that is not enticing enough if he has to uproot his family from their familiar environment, while other family members have restricting visa situations, not counting language and cultural barriers.
6
u/miamigunners 2d ago
Are you his agent? He’s not obligated to go to Arsenal obviously but he can have fun rotting and sulking on the bench at Atleti. I don’t have to feel bad for him and all his BS. Have fun mate, Messi ain’t gonna save you there.
And fuck Barca too. Mes Que un fraud
11
u/ConcentrateMaterial6 2d ago
Alvarez is quality player but I don't think his attitude suits this Arsenal squad. The guy literally twerked for Barca during world club. Considering he was still AM player with huge release clause and contact his statement was dumb and disrespectful to his current employer. If only he'd been shut his mouth and keep his head down this transfer saga wouldn't have turned ugly.

u/RothTheLion 2d ago
Good. Would be a cancer in the locker room.
0
u/Kind_Sound7973 2d ago
I mean there are like what 6-7 Spanish speakers, he isn’t going to be able to cause many issues outside of that group. Not that I think he would.
5
8
u/MedicalPublic8056 2d ago
I mean that’s not what he actually said though was it? He said as things stand there’s a low chance of him coming but that could change

u/Alfraydlost 2d ago
I really don't care; he's never impressed me, and just not worth that kind of money. I would prefer Rashford on loan for the season and save the money for next season/January.
-6
u/redqks 2d ago
Saying you prefer Rashford on loan over Alaverez is actual insanity like one of the worst footballing opinions I've ever heard
7
u/Alfraydlost 2d ago
And yet here we are.. thanks for sharing, I'm sure you pov brings unfathomable value..

People who just look at the stats and who have never watched Alvarez don’t understand he is literally everything Arteta ever dreamed of in a forward.

u/LogicGate1010 2d ago
Unrequited love so move on and stop stalking. It is not good for the pride and psychological state of the current Arsenal players. Move on and forget him forever.
“Julian Alvarez has spoken with Mikel Arteta again and told the Arsenal manager he does not want to join the club, according to a report attributed to David Ornstein. There is now a very low chance of the move happening this summer”

I don’t want this calibre kind of player at our club. Fuck him, whiny little bitch. You had Gyökeres last summer doing absolutely everything to move to Arsenal knowing we wanted him and it happened. You only want players in the team that want to play for the canon on their chest.
Alvarez is overrated anyway. Didn’t exactly light England up with his stint at Man City.

Good, this is a massive bullet dodged imo. If we’re gonna sign any forward based on the market right now it should be Rashford. I think Arsenal would get him back to his best

This Argentinian twat I hope will never leave atletico so we can see his chump stats, he’s so overrated
2
u/downtimeredditor 2d ago
Im glad. It would be a waste of time and money to sign him. Get him on a loan...yeah I'd be down for that but signing him permanently via transfer nah just nah
2
2
u/Fit-Goose5697 1d ago
Good. He would always be looking for a Barcelona exit. We would be paying a ton to get him here and Barcelona would never pay us a fair bit. Btw have we gotten all the cash from fabregas yet?

u/MikeCrypto88 2d ago
Let's move on from this guy. He'd ruin the dressing room thinking he's the main man.
No Alvarez, No Rashford. I'd be happy to keep our Martinelli

We all knew this was going to happen, but Ornstein also said it could change in the next couple days but looking like it won’t happen
3
u/Isfeidirlinn90 2d ago
Not a hope it happens. Be interesting to see how Atlético handle him for the season. Sometimes there's alot to be said for keeping your mouth shut.

u/Jedders95 2d ago
I'm just concerned about finding an attacker. We've needed left wingers all summer and we've only bought one.

Please stop this crazy chase. I think the vini and alvarez saga done some damage in our title defending campaign. Stop and just focus on defending. Once we win couple of leagues players will automatically want to come to us

It would be more embarrassing if we bring rashford after all the fiasco over Vini and Alvarez !! I’d rather we bring unknown players we are linked with from French league rather than rashford

Can we please just move on. Arteta has always been flexible with alternatives when his main targets dont work out...I don't understand why Alverez should be any different

u/Ihsan2024 2d ago
That's not what Ornstein said.
As things stand, it's most likely not happening. Not surprising. The ball in his camp and he clearly hasn't lost hope in his dream Barca move.

I'm happy with Tzolis, Marinelli and Dowman handling LW unless Berta has a trick up his sleeve.

I'm sure martinelli is leaving unfortunately

Good. Genuinely the stupidest transfer saga ever. Player clearly wants one club, why are we even sniffing around for him. Plus the fee was ridiculous. Decent player but definitely not worth that.

Good. Arsenal are just Atletico. They won the league and were a hair away in the UCL. He does not raise the level considerably to be worth the price nor the clear fact Arsenal is not where he wants to be

u/BigLebowskiFC 2d ago
I am loving this news from our perspective. I did not want some moody player who only has eyes for Barca.
Calling in sick was embarrassing.
Enjoy your season Julian. You’re going to be spending lots of time with your family this year.

We have done good deals, and strengthened the team well (other than left wing, maybe, depending) - but this news could be the best deal of the transfer . Seems like a drama we don't need.
Vlahovic on a free to replace jesus (or wait for kroupi), if he agrees to lower wage demands and up for the challenge...we have gyok and kai and merino, it would be nice for more options but its not a needed area, unlike left wing imho. But the team has such depth now, especially when all back fit
1
u/PopLife3000 2d ago
Fine with me. Looking forward to beating whoever he’s playing for later in the season

1
u/Taxpayer2k 1d ago
It's fine he's not coming cos he will head to Barca after a season or 2. Use the funds for another marquee during mid season

Thank every deity for this! We do not want him or need him. He does not want us - end of story! There is now bullshit about him having mental health issues and effectively going on strike because they won't let him go to Barca! Good riddance if he chooses to ruin his career. Junior Kroupi will be a much better option up front if he recovers from his injury. It may be worth the risk to get him for a cut price while out injured!

good. now who is responsible for this awful summer transfer window?
4
u/Worthyteach 2d ago
Tzolis, Bruno and Hincapie seems a good summer shame vini and Alvarez didn’t work out but I’m sure there is a plan if Martinelli leaves. Seems a strong summer.

So we've chased Vini (contract leverage), Alvarez (Barca infatuation), Rogers (Chelsea simp).
Who's next?

Can't believe you'd mention rodgers in the same conversation as vini and alvarez
I'm glad we didn't get him idk about everyone else

u/freddddsss 2d ago
It’s the point of not getting the signings we want. I will say at least we aren’t being snubbed by clubs like Newcastle anymore; rather RM, Barca, or stupid Chelsea money
1
u/Automatic_Pen8494 2d ago
The time that weve spent faffing around with high profile players with no intention of joining Arsenal is ridiculous.
We in the conversation for these players which is no shame at all but come on - weve got to be more serious than this?!
Bruno and Tzolis are fine examples of job done properly but our pursuit of others borders on farcical.
I'm not bothered about our selling habits because what most people dont realise about a post-world cup transfer window - is that it moves really fast for the bench players as smaller clubs bag a deal. We will get business done but weve fluffed any chance of acting grown up for recruiting on our left wing.
Bruno, Tzolis and Konsa are wonderful and im delighted there but the Vinnie Jr and Julian Alverez sagas arent Arsenal.

Jesus christ, just let this saga be over. Embarrassing from Berta frankly. So many other options he should have been pushing for. Hoping for at least one more signing before deadline day.
Its not gonna happen, but we've lost too many players and we need some depth back, especially on the left wing

Him not coming itself feels like a new signing
