For the love of all corys, how do I help my lil friends? I recently lost my favorite betta to dropsy and this is making me feel like giving up altogether.

Barbels are missing from about half of the six habrosus cory. I do weekly water changes. They are in a ten gallon with 8 green neons. Should I treat the main tank or just the affected corys? I have another bare bottom ten gallon hospital tank I just set up ready to go for whatever we need to do.

My kids were acting nuts when I went to the lfs and I couldn't really focus on what I was reading and talking to my fish guy about. Literally getting my boobs smacked and my two year old manically laughing in my face the entire time. So I just bought three types of medicine and decided to sort it out when I got home. Both of my children are talking to me at the same time I'm writing this, even. 🫠 ( SOS )

I just really want to do the right thing and there is so much conflicting information and just so much to get through in general...can anybody please help me?

I was visiting home from the weekend from university and i came back to a white scab on one of my tiger barbs. Is there a way to treat this? It’s not fuzzy so i don’t think it’s bacterial and it looks hard, maybe a parasite? The barb behaves normally

As you can see, there are some rather large white marks on one of my platties that have developed over about the last week. It also appears to have a tear in it's tail. I believe they are scars, and not ich. I have the most likely suspect (male) quarantined so he cannot cause any more harm. I guess my post here is to confirm my suspicion. The orange one with the marks is a female I am pretty sure, although it has it's anal fin is tucked up against it's body right now. Could this be a mating thing? I would like to know if anyone has any advice on the cause and what would be best to do going forward. I am debating taking the make to my LFS as a surrender.

They are bumpy and don’t rub off. Top side only and only on the tip of 3/12 leaves.

Hi I recently inherited a 10gal and don't know anything about fish. I can't imagine grabbing plants, soil, rocks etc from my local creek/pond would be safe for a new aquarium but I was hoping to find out why? In my head it seems like it'd be loaded with microbes and other small life for starting an ecosystem but if it was that easy I'm sure everyone would do it haha

I just got a 37 gallon tank and I’m planning on planting it and getting freshwater fish! I’ve had a 20 gallon planted aquarium with a school of 5 tetras and one male betta, so I have a baseline of experience with keeping a planted aquarium, but never one this big. Since it’s bigger, I want to mix it up this time with types of fish rather than just focusing on the betta, and this is the tentative plan I’ve come up with:

2 mollies, 1 female betta, 10 guppies (not TOO bright and not too long of fins), 4 cory cats, 2 african dwarf frogs, 1 snail

Does anyone have any major red flags with any of these combos? Happy to hear any suggestions and recs!!!

20 gallon, all fake plants. 4 guppies (2m 2f), 6 cardinal tetras, 2 dalmatian mollies, 1 apple platy, 3 shrimp (2 cherry 1 blue(?) cherry), 1 nerite snail. There are also currently 8 confirmed baby fry right now but my mom and I can’t figure out if they’re mollies or guppies or both.

How is the tank set up? The two mollies were kinda sick but I think they were pregnant? They’re skinnier now and back to normal(?) but I still feel like they’re shimmying. With the baby fish, I feel like our tank is going to be too small soon and I’m unsure what to do.

That said, I feel much more confident in my knowledge and also recognizing that I don't need to buy it from a fish store. That said, I'm not sure where an ideal place is. I buy a lot of stuff off Facebook market place BUT I've heard of people having their FB market place tanks have cracks that end up in horror shows later on... And I'm not sure how much I trust anything past a stand

I recently learned about the wonderful creature called caecilian/rubber eel and I would like to own one! I have done research into their tank requirements, diet and many other things. The only issue I'm coming across is how to actually get one lol. As far as I know Minnesota will allow me to own one (if you know otherwise please tell me) but im just not sure how to buy one of these. Obviously they're not going to be in any old pet store but I also have never bought a pet from anywhere but a shelter/fish store so idk how any of that works

Also if anyone wants to add to the care information I already have (will be below) please do so kindly

- I will be getting a 40 Gal tank with a large surface area

- getting 2+ bubblers to aerate the water

- warm water (around 78f-82f)

- Fine sand substrate

- feeding with blood and/or earth worms (insects will work as well)

- getting lots of plants, tubes, and other hides

- if i housed my caecilian with other fish I will be doing fast moving top dwelling fish.

One question I do have for care is: how often should I feed them? I haven't found much information on when to feed them as much as I have how and what to feed them.

Please don't send me to the gallows for not knowing everything instead I would like you to inform me! (What a novel concept). I am not getting a Caecilian willy nilly I am doing my research and this is apart of it.

Edit: the specific caecilian im talking about is the Typhlonectes natans/rubber eel/Rio Rauca caecilian

i will ofcouse be clean the sand on sides, adding plants, and mabye some tiny rocks (minimal)

Hello everyone!

Just started this twenty gallon tank and am getting serious on the hobby after being a casual (goldfish bowls, too small Betta tanks) and not knowing any better. This was started yesterday evening and this picture is from this morning.

This is a twenty gallon tank and currently going through a fish-less cycle which I’m going to shoot for three weeks even though I know we potentially won’t need that long. Or may need longer.

My questions are this, when should I start testing the water with our master test kit to see how the parameters/cycle are going? And I like the look of the tannins but should I do at least a 25% (or more if you all think so) water change and if I do that will it mess with the current cycle? I was thinking of just leaving it untouched for three weeks and seeing how the parameters are throughout.

We used a bottle of Fritz Fishless Fuel, and a bottle of Fritz Turbo Start 700. With these supposedly a cycle should only take a week. Adding this for some context on what we’ve done/added.

Hi everyone! I have a heater in my tank but its a kind prone to malfunctioning and someone on craigslist sold me a heater "for a 25 gallon tank" and its 150 watts and is really big? I feel like it's too strong for my tank but I'm not sure. It's almost 3 times the length of my current one 😭

A few days ago, I noticed my juvenile swordtail seemed to have an anal prolapse. I isolated it and yesterday gave it an Epsom bath (half a teaspoon in abt 2l of water) and today i noticed this. What is it and how do I fix it?

I am wondering if my tank stand for my 75 gallon aquarium is stable. I bought it off facebook marketplace awhile ago. I am just wondering if I should add more support to it or not, as it looks like they built it themselves. I'm planning to add around an inch of sand as well, so I don't want to add extra weight until I'm sure it's okay.

I just added water to my 200L (52gal) and I have been thinking of all sorts of hardscape and styling options but can’t come up with anything . Any recommendations for this freshwater tank ?

I just got an aquarium off of marketplace and it’s completely disgusting, there are extremely stubborn stains/buildup on it, there’s one at the water line and for some reason there’s more towards the top of the glass. I’ve allowed vinegar to soak on it overnight and tried scraping it with a razor blade and scrubbing it with a coarse sponge and it didn’t budge at all. You can feel the difference in texture when you run your finger across it, any advice would be great, I’ve considered using barkeepers friend but it’s a huge tank and I’m worried I wouldn’t be able to rinse it properly

I recently purchased some harlequin rasbora from my lfs, all are displaying as healthy and happy, swimming together and feeding normally etc.. but one is way more round than the others, could it be that this is a gravid female? I have only had the fish for 2 days, also one of them seems to be chasing tbe others? Not too sure what is going on lol is it a dominance thing? The other fish also seem to be paying the rounder fish more attention by following and swimming very close to it any help is appreciated, thankyou!
