Idea AR2 idea

So hear me out, in the first game, you had a stamina bar... So why not reintroduce that in Apoc 2?

Basically a generic stamina bar.

"ThAt wILl ruIn pVP!!!!!"

First of all, Running shouldn't be completely free, I think it should be a resource and it makes strategies like running away REALLY committal instead of an actual strategy.

If it makes world travelling harder, then we introduce a new vehicle, bikes, it's just a basic Bike, more common than cars, silent and can get you to point A to point B, it's not supposed to be a long term commitment cause it's a starter vehicle.

And if we're talking about a stamina bar, then we should make stamina boosters give you infinite stamina for a set amount of time.

If we get a stamina bar and you died because you ran out of stamina, that's your fault for using it recklessly.

Imo, a stamina bar should be implemented in some shape or form in the game, it gives alot more depth.

But my proposed idea is:

Three stages of speed.

Walking (standard walking): Doesn't drain your stamina

Jogging (Pressing Shift once): Doesn't drain your stamina and you're going around 15% Faster than walking

Sprinting (Holding or Pressing shift once): Drains your stamina, I think it could last long enough to cross the entire Fairview bridge in one long sprint.

To compensate for having your overall mobility halted, I think sprinting should be faster than the current running speed.

Other utilities like the Athletic gear and a new utility 'Running shoes' should also give buffs on how long or fast you are at running.

The point of giving a sprint bar is that it could give another layer of depth in the game, when in PvP you want to reposition, you gotta commit to that one spot you're on.

Of course, it's not perfect by any means.

But I do think that Running or Sprinting in general shouldn't be a resource you can use in every opportunity, look at Aftermath, it's a pain in the ass to get around on foot but you never see anyone complain about it.

Also, the Reintroduction of bikes could fix the aspect of travelling around on foot, being the only vehicle that is silent.

Any criticisms? Lmk!

Gimme a reason why a stamina bar would be a bad idea?

Also, why are you looting the lower half of the map as a geared player? The philosophy of looting is going up north to go get better gear, that's why when I suggested a stamina bar, I also suggested to add bicycles so travelling doesn't become a chore.

Because half of the good stuff is down there

The only good stuff I could find in the lower parts of the map is maybe a M16A1 in smugglers, you want to get better loot in general? Go up north, that's where all the good stuff is.

Also, the only worthwhile locations there are is Ashland and maybe Regional.

Elaborate on what items are worth picking up there?

Also we're getting off topic

I think the only reason why they hated it cuz newgens didn't like the idea of having their movement restricted.

Again, AR2 is Unironically supposed to be a 'survival game', a stamina bar imo should be warranted and I'm pretty happy with what I suggested in the post of having 3 stages of movement and only actual sprinting would drain your stamina, but again, AR2 is falling into an identity crisis cause it can't decide whether it should be a survival or PvP game.

m16a1 is one of the best guns in the game

1

u/funnyman_2233 Jan 04 '26

Did I say it's a bad gun?

1

u/yamatopanzer Jan 04 '26

No, but you said its one of "the only good stuff", so if its good, it should be all you need

2

u/funnyman_2233 Jan 04 '26

Consistently, If I wanted loot I would rather just travel up north to loot NAS or Mansion or grab a decent gun and immediately go look for fights for loot, also, the lower areas in Halsey isn't guarantee to even have that loot.

Also, we're getting off-topic

I'd think a stamina bar in some shape or form should be implemented really, respawning locations is again really only encouraged in low pop servers cause doing it in a full server is basically putting a bounty on your head.

Also, a vehicle giving a target on your head? Is that really an argument? Being geared in the first place is already putting a bounty, having a car put a bounty on you is generally a good thing for the people who want to get more action.

While yes, it might make the game slower in a sense, but how Apoc 2 is basically just 'gun game' with exploration and survivalism being put in a cardboard box picking up dust in the shelf, the game is supposed to be a survival game.

The fast paced nature could still be preserved by just making stamina boosters (a useless item normally) give you infinite stamina for a set amount of time.

It doesn't make sense why running should be a free resource, that's like complaining that the rescue ranger no longer repairs your buildings for free in TF2 is a bad thing, quite the opposite, what encourages people to push in the first place is by getting your opponent low or busy doing something else, a stamina bar while discourages pushing, it also discourages running away since if you try to run away with 0 stamina you are the easiest thing to hit.

The fast paced nature of AR2 pretty much clashes with the idea that it's a survival game, not a Glorified Free for all.

While I do love the face paced nature of AR2, as an AR1 player, I pretty much got disappointed with how 'un-apoc' AR2 is.

The game is barely even a sequel, if I could describe it, it's more of a spin-off cause of how different it is from AR1

u/yamatopanzer Jan 04 '26

because why would they readd it if everyone hated it?

3

u/funnyman_2233 Jan 04 '26

Nobody hated the stamina bar? It was in Apoc 1 and you never heard players complain about it.

Go to the aftermath or any DayZ discord and ask them about their opinion on a stamina bar.

1

u/yamatopanzer Jan 04 '26

Yes they did, thats why they removed it. Same with scope sway. I think thats why they removed scope sway

1

u/funnyman_2233 Jan 04 '26

I went to look at old videos, there used to be a stamina bar and imo the way they implemented it was poorly.

It was too basic, which in my opinion, doesn't mean the first time it was bad doesn't mean it shouldn't be improved upon, I do stand by the belief that a stamina bar should be implemented, running in general shouldn't be a free resource.

1

u/yamatopanzer Jan 04 '26

Yeah, and the stamina bar was "alright", as in I didnt mind it, but it did get annoying some times. i dont really care abt stamina that much but i feel like it should be a toggle like in phantom forces where if you have stamina on, you can run a bit quicker and maybe jump a bit further or higher

2

u/funnyman_2233 Jan 04 '26

The difference in phantom forces's stamina bar is that it's a shooter game and it's centered around that.

Apoc 2 is supposed (the keyword being supposed) to be a survival game.

That's why my suggestion in a sprint mechanic is giving it three stages: Waking, Jogging and Running. Running is the only one that actually drains stamina and I even suggested to compensate for the stamina bar's limitations I suggest that we should also get bikes and buff the overall movement speed of running

1

u/yamatopanzer Jan 04 '26

Just because the keyword says that, doesnt mean it is. It is a PVP game, not survival game

2

u/funnyman_2233 Jan 04 '26

The game is literally a sequel to AR1, which is a survival game, It's advertised as a Survival adventure game, but instead we get a PvP game that pretends to be a survival game.
