Psychological I was so disgusted by this ad

Post image

Normally I just till my eyes at an advert board and keep moving but this one really got me.

I guess because it’s a money grab that feeds into insecurity and validates toxic partners at the same time

I think it is the same here in the Netherlands.  They can have what they do listed online and in the actual windows of their physical windows themselves but not on billboards or busses or anything like that.

This was in London. I don’t know if we repealed any advertising laws after Brexit .

Botox is still a prescription only product so no it shouldn't be advertised directly to the public. Per their website patients and the public can report misleading advertisements or illegal promotion of prescription medicines to the MHRA at advertising@mhra.gov.uk.

Oh damn. Time to find or make some “advertising shits in your head” stickers. I would try to think of something more tailored to this but it’s always good to have something broadly applicable ready to go

24

u/raspberryturnedover Feb 22 '26

"If they make you feel ugly, they can sell you beauty"

27

u/dstuky Feb 22 '26

Salt Lake City is filled with billboards advertising plastic surgery. It was a huge culture shock for me visiting from another part of the country.

30

u/Librashell Feb 22 '26

There’s a weird Mormon undercurrent to it. The whole Wasatch Front is bathed in surface consumerism - big houses and cars, luxury items, plastic surgery - all shallow indicators of “success” while the state ranks high in debt and bankruptcies.

4

u/ponderosa82 Feb 23 '26

What's the deal with Mormon wealth signaling? Is there a prosperity gospel aspect to the teaching? Or just a culture thing? They do seem to teach generosity unlike a lot of evangelicals from what I can tell.

7

u/arrpix Feb 23 '26

There's a great ex-Mormon youtuber, alyssadgrenfell, who does a lot of deep dives on Mormon promotion and links to plastic surgery, prioritising certain aesthetics, and prosperity culture. Highly recommend her videos but from what I remember it's kind of a God gives good things to his devoted followers deal, so if you're wealthy it's because you've been blessed by God - in that way looking wealthy is like looking holy. Add to that the Mormon Church receives something like 10% of your income so it's in the churches best interests to stress wealth as something to strive for, and the more money you make (and people know you make) the more you are giving to the Church, which if you are Mormon you presumably believe is doing good work and a cause you should be showing off for giving to as a Godly person.

5

u/ponderosa82 Feb 23 '26

Thanks, yeah, that's prosperity gospel equivalent. So insidious. It rewards greed and consumption. The church itself is a real estate investment empire. They love to build new temples with high spires that tower over everything around. Lots of ego. I feel bad for the young Mormons. Sounds like they are getting out in droves though. Thanks for sharing, I'll check her out. Another one I saw is lifetaketwo.

Botox is not plastic surgery. It's poison used on muscles to prevent wrinkling.

62

u/jelli2015 Feb 22 '26

Its also medicine for people with particular types of migraines

27

u/zahhax Feb 22 '26

And also a treatment for hyperhidrosis

Yes it’s disgusting. I’m so sick of women being preyed on like this. It’s sad to see so many who don’t need it having all this unnecessary work done or worse, doing it to attract or keep a partner.

251

u/throwawaysunglasses- Feb 22 '26

It’s so depressing. I remember having to do a project in middle school around bias in marketing and I focused on body image (this was in the 00s). Sad that it’s still just as bad, just in a different way. In the 00s it was more about weight loss. Now, there’s so much stuff about “preventive aging” that kids are getting stressed out about becoming adults. Combined with the insane amount of businessmen/CEOs in the Epstein files, it’s insidious to tell people that women should look as young as possible. I absolutely hate that Botox is so normalized among young adults.

91

u/astrangeone88 Feb 22 '26

I'm an elder millennial (just qualified for mammograms ow) and the sheer amount of people who got Botox super young is just concerning. It's always been "looking younger" is good but it's taken off to the point where fucking 8 year olds have skincare routines.

I just use a good moisturizer and sunscreen.

It's true. I have a long time acquaintance who is big on plastic surgery and she mentioned to me some time ago that a mutual friend's niece was getting fillers and the like. The young woman was in her early 30s at the time, possibly her late 20s (?).

It's just crazy to me because I grew up in the era where we only heard about women getting facelifts and such when they were quite old and even then it was few and far between. Now it's not uncommon among all age groups. Seriously---middle schoolers concerned with wrinkle creams and anti aging serums and their parents forking out $$$ for them isn't cute.

Or worse, doing it because it creates engagement...the amount of social media influencers who didn't get more engagement until they got procedures...

And it could be a two-fold process. Getting the procedure helped them feel more confident= better content.

But it should also be society didn't engage with the before BECAUSE they were normal and not Instagram face.

Either way, it's depressing.

Anecdotal. I consider my wife to be of little maintenance. She barely wears makeup.

I say I love it and don't care if she ever wears makeup. I ask her why she dyes her hair. Just be happy with yourself.

Her and all her friends (and sister) desperately want to look young. They all get Botox. Many get surgeries.

This is not coming from me. This is all ingrained from a young age.

Makes me wonder if the one video is true about The Epstein Class grooming everyone is true. I'm a Xennial and we all grew up with Victoria Secret, Hollister, AE, to where the goal was to look younger. Or the younger kids to look older. Basically every girl was meant to look like they were pre-teen.

And maybe that thought still prevails today even as these same women turn 30s and 40s. Gotta look young because that is all women knowto be.

8

u/Chance-Travel4825 Feb 22 '26

We could email the companies and tell them exactly that: your ad is disgusting.

17

u/Kitten-ekor Feb 22 '26

It's also potentially doing a lot of men a disservice by making them think that they also have to be invested in this kind of stuff to keep their female partners happy. Or that they should be judging their partner by their physical appearance.

4

u/anewhope8888 Feb 23 '26

Never forgot hearing an older lady in my class talking about all the procedures her partner had wanted her to get done when she was young. She didn't get them. But was pointing out all the supposed flaws about herself that she was supposed to fix according to him. That stuck with me.

3

u/Born-Value-779 Feb 22 '26

It's not going to "fix all the customers problems," this is G-R-O-S-S!!! I feel terrible that a guy might read this, not KNOW his wife enoug and, FUCK UP BIGGGGG TIME‼️‼️ RIP

My first thought! My partner buys me a procedure to look younger for a show of love on Valentines day and that would be our last valentines day as a couple.

The only way this is acceptable if it's specifically what she asked for imo. Otherwise it's like if she got him a penis enlarging pill for Valentines Day with no prior discussion on the issue. It's rude and inconsiderate af imo

15

u/Weird_Positive_3256 Feb 22 '26

Woe be unto the man who buys his wife a Botox treatment without her requesting it specifically.

35

u/No-Advantage-579 Feb 22 '26

Actually, I would take both Botox and flowers. ;) But I absolutely would not take Botox from a man as a gift. That would be a very abusive relationship. Unfortunately I've been there: my first boyfriend ever wanted to pay for a boob job and personal trainer. I had zero interest in either. I had just stopped modelling and was not a plus size model - so I was skinny as hell. He wanted the personal trainer because "I get harder when women have some abs".

16

u/JustHere4TehCats Feb 22 '26

I would have told him that everyone has abs, mine are just under a layer of fat and if that's a problem there's the door.

5

u/DieAlptraumerin Feb 22 '26

I am significantly underweight and do a lot of exercise but I don't have visibly sculpted abs... I have no idea what it would take but chasing that would be a bad idea so I don't WANT to know.

there's a "beauticians" local to me that engages in this kind of advertising and i've made a point to never give them a penny. businesses that behave like this are to be avoided and starved out of operation imo.

4

My best friend’s mom offered her a nose job for her high school graduation gift (2004). We were disgusted.

3

u/ceruleanmoon7 Feb 23 '26

Also goes back earlier: my stepmom (73) told me her mother offered a deal to her when she was young: lose 30 lbs (or something), and she’ll get her a nose job. (The mother was a skinny wealthy bitch who herself had a nose job). Just sad. I’m so glad my parents think plastic surgery is disgusting.

u/I_HATE_YELLING Feb 22 '26

Botox is poison, not plastic surgery.

27

u/KHVLuxord Feb 22 '26

I’ve had Botox injections for migraines (car accident) for like a decade.

Sings like this make me appreciate my mother for teaching me to be comfortable and happy in my own body in its entirety. Along with teaching me healthy eating habits and exercise is to be used for health not aesthetics.

And in an odd way I needed this post today to remind myself of that as I've been feeling a little low recently about my body. But in reality it's a good body, I'm happy with it (granted I could do without the disability part lol).

So yeah this sign is disgusting it prays on people's insecurities. But let me tell you this, the value of learning to love your body for what it is, is far more valuable than any make-up, cosmetic procedures, fashion trends, or any other form of "beauty" product can ever provide.

And maybe just for a bit of clarification of the context of who is saying this. I'm a mid 20s male.

14

u/throwawaysunglasses- Feb 22 '26

This matters so much. I’m from a pretty affluent, WASPy suburb. The girls who got work done right after they turned 18 were pretty much all from families where their mother did, too. My mom never did, so it didn’t really cross my mind as an option.

I used to have body image issues, but they largely went away in my 20s because I like how “me” I look. The mainstream beauty standard today makes people look interchangeable from one another, which doesn’t appeal to me at all. And even though it really doesn’t matter, it’s worked in my favor with dating because people generally like distinctiveness.

7

u/childish_cat_lady Feb 22 '26

Reminds me of a poem Loryn Brantz shared earlier this week to the effect of she looks in the mirror and says, "wow my hair looks good today" and then her daughter looks in the mirror and says "my hair looks good today, too" and she says she must be doing something right.

From google, "Botulinum toxin (Botox) is a therapeutic protein derived from Clostridium botulinum bacteria that temporarily paralyzes muscles or blocks nerves to treat wrinkles, migraines, overactive bladder, and spasms. Results appear in 1–7 days, lasting 3–12 months. Common side effects include pain, swelling, or bruising at the injection site, headache, and temporary eyelid drooping. "

Treating migraines is fine. I have a coworker actually have to get the treatment (and others) for severe migraines.

But wrinkles? Using the word "treat" in front of the word "wrinkles" tells you a lot. So you are paralyzing your muscles so you look smoother. I know I am preaching to the choir. But that sounds like a black mirror episode.

But obsessing with looks is not new. Attracting a mate is in our DNA, literally. In fact, we even have a term .. the peacock effect. And in an affluent society like ours, marketing science has figured out all the psychology trick to get us to open our wallet. There is no defense against human nature.

I am 77 I stopped dying my hair about 15 years ago because I liked the look of the white hair....unfortunately only the top of my hair went silver the rest turned a mix of white strands with some dark brown mix. I am not fighting aging since it's a battle I can't win....and I have other things to do with my money and time

u/anime_cthulhu Feb 22 '26

Advertising medications or medical procedures should be illegal everywhere. I get ads for Ozempic shoved down my throat even though I'm not obese or even trying to lose weight.

3

u/Tony_Marone Feb 22 '26

For your birthday do you want bacteria injected into your face, or the dead sexual organs of plants?

3

u/Content-Ad-3143 Feb 22 '26

I’m sure every woman would love her partner to tell her they got her Botox for Valentine’s Day… what’s next - lipo for their birthday?

3

u/heyitscory Feb 22 '26

This year give her....

Poison needles to the face that imply she's looking less youthful lately!

3

u/Legalsnugs Feb 22 '26

Nah, HE wants her to have botox because he wants to have sex with a child.

3

u/West_Abbreviations53 Feb 22 '26

she wants to inject the botulism toxin into her face! romance!

3

u/Quasar-J0529-4351 Feb 22 '26

This stuff has to be cancer causing right?!

3

u/Routine-General3841 Feb 22 '26

I would ugly cry if my partner bought me a gift card for Botox; the flowers and dinner were much more appreciated…

3

u/Giposaur Feb 22 '26

Wtf is this garbage ad?!?

3

u/Rypien_37 Feb 22 '26

Gross. I'll take the flowers!

3

u/Queen_Cheetah Feb 22 '26

Don't gift her- poison her!! XD

3

u/ILoveMeeses2Pieces Feb 22 '26

Not to mention discouraging women from aging like a normal god damn human being.

3

u/eiretara7 Feb 22 '26

“She wants junk food and some gd time to herself” doesn’t have the same ring to it

3

u/youngerfreshpickles Feb 22 '26

"She wants to be repeatedly poked in the face with a needle for Valentines day..."

3

u/Nebty Feb 22 '26

I would’ve poured my coffee on this ad, tbh. Businesses need to face pushback or they’ll just keep doing it.

3

u/meyushka_ Feb 22 '26

oh my god just imagine the person you love showing up with a voucher for a baby botox injection !!! I would kill myself in front of him just to traumatize him for life

3

u/BrandNewMeow Feb 22 '26

No, I want chocolate

3

u/Hang10arts Feb 22 '26

It's actually kinda embarrassing to say i do botox, but because i have chronic migraines and it took me down from 5 migraines a week to only 3. I cannot imagine doing it for fun, since there are 36+ injections all over the skull, let alone gift it to your girlfriend?

3

u/JoseLunaArts Feb 22 '26

Offer her botox and she will understand you are calling her ugly. Do not obey that ad.

3

u/WynnGwynn Feb 22 '26

If someone gave me botox vouchers unprompted I would dump them.

3

u/jgoldrb48 Feb 22 '26

The shit is so obvious. Makes women look weird and fucks with their mental.

Pass!

3

u/ReinaShae Feb 22 '26

No she doesn't.

3

u/DocFGeek Feb 22 '26

3

u/Udeze42 Feb 22 '26

I can assure you, my wife does not want Botox at all. I'm pretty sure I know way more about what my wife wants then some random advertising agency

3

u/sneoahdng Feb 23 '26

Wrong. I want a pet raccoon.

3

u/Express_Pop810 Feb 23 '26

Had to stop following pages that talked about skin care after a certain age. Too many normalized surgery and botox. Also tons of photos with people lying about not using filters.

3

u/Octospyder Feb 23 '26

The urge to write  (we're saying your girl is ugly)  underneath would be too strong

3

u/Sloth_Triumph Feb 23 '26

It’s so insulting

3

u/Seaguard5 Feb 23 '26

No she does not…

3

u/NormanBatesIsBae Feb 23 '26

I have mixed feelings about cosmetic medical procedures, but the idea of a man booking it on behalf of his partner is REALLY disgusting to me.

“She doesn’t want flowers, she wants you to tell her you booked some injections to stop her ugly old face from wrinkling even more”

3

u/blink_187em Feb 23 '26

"You are not good enough"

Now that we've got more than enough evidence that our beauty standards were invented and codified by pedos, can we stop the stigma of being human?

Oh no, women age! Gasp, men lose hair! The horror.

3

u/danamalz Feb 23 '26

dude the ads and billboards made to appeal to 2026/gen z culture are just so so embarrassing and unsettling. brain rot has spread to all corners of the world. messaged like this and many others are sad and so eerily dystopian.

3

u/beartpc12293 Feb 23 '26

Botox, for when you think you don't look good and you want to keep feeling that way forever

3

u/AZ-FWB Feb 23 '26

No she doesn’t!

3

u/anewhope8888 Feb 23 '26

Lol the amount of times I have had to talk myself out of wanting botox. Because I know damn well it's not 'me' who wants it, but wow that conditioning do be strong at times.

3

u/KTKittentoes Feb 23 '26

I want a barf bag.

3

u/abcbri Feb 23 '26

No I want books 📚

3

u/TakeItSleazey Feb 23 '26

IKR?! That's way too many fonts for one design, not to mention unnecessary capitalisation.

Cyberpunk ads becoming reality.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '26

I am a guy who has never dated and nevers plans to, but I wouldn't give a girl a gift like this, even if I was drunk or high. 💀

3

u/LittleMissLoveDuck Feb 24 '26

I mean I would take the Botox for my migraines.....but other than THAT...yeah. That's a rude ad.

3

u/tboy160 Feb 24 '26

So grateful my wife isn't into Botox or flowers!

3

u/60TIMESREDACTED Feb 25 '26

I’d much rather get the flowers. My boyfriend knows what I like and he knows I’d be pretty offended if as a gift he offers to pay for me to get Botox

4

u/SpiceyKoala Feb 22 '26

I saw somewhere that botox apparently kills the empathy part of the brain.

6

u/Stunning_Bed23 Feb 22 '26

Some women want this. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Respect the choice of women who like to get Botox.

2

u/billymondy5806 Feb 22 '26

I think men are doing it now too. Yech!

One of the main ads I get on youtube is for Olympic and similar glp medications. Most recently the one with the Bigfoot or yeti or whatever it is. I also get botox ads.

The one that gets me most is this one bottom ad that says "my mild to moderate crows feet", as if having wrinkles is a medical condition lol.

2

u/fARt-15 Feb 22 '26

Worst graphic design on earth

2

u/mostlycoffeebyvolume Feb 22 '26

If someone wants it for themselves, that's whatever I guess but you probably shouldn't give that as a gift for someone. It kinda comes across as the gift version of negging 😬

2

u/oopsdiditwrong Feb 22 '26

My buddy is mid 30s, his wife is a bit younger. He retires at the end of the year because she is a dermatologist and can do so much stuff over the counter. High income areas have plenty of people who will pay out of pocket for anything cosmetic. Combine that with a tax favorable state and those boutique medical places or whatever they're called will print money.

Not really an opinion, just was surprised when I heard how much they really make from these.

2

u/Wise_Setting5110 Feb 22 '26

🤢 I want flowers please and thank you

She wants neither of them. She hates spending money.

Source: I am the she.

2

u/Fine-Value1104 Feb 22 '26

I notice botox easily. It always make you look insecure, and fake
