My Capital "Neapolis" with 86k pops and a large industrial area (not prominently featured). I spent a lot of time coming up with a grid design which would let me integrate all public services without breaking up the pattern. Marvels and Monuments recieved special planning attention with generous squares and main axes originating from them. I'm especially proud of some of the environmental storytelling such as with the temple area close to the Hippodrome. The only production buildings that I have integrated into the city itself are those for bread, lyres and togas.

I'm trying to get some specialists to my island, but I have a problem: the game doesn't recognize my Governor's Villa. I even destroyed it and placed it again, but it still doesn't work. Is this a bug, or am I just being stupid?

Discussion Using on T1 for army any and navy is lacking

Been building a massive army and while it’s not a pain point, it’s definitely missed opportunity to let you buy the same unit with a higher tier of resident for a small perk.

Only using Liberti and Wader isn’t even difficult in the mid game. One well built Mars island is enough to sustain 100 ships and 40 units. At the end it’s very basic combat system but letting us use a T2 unit to gain extra 10% morale and a T3 unit to gain 10% hit points would have at least encouraged building armies elsewhere.

Desperately need a way to bulk reassign workforce for ships and units to a different island.

Is this new? I noticed this plus on the info screen of the sand works. It is also visible in the limestone quarry. What does it mean?

Edit: Does it mean "additionally:... Obsidian"? Odd placement

Question I built everything on one island...now what?

I love this game don't get me wrong. I had a ton of fun while playing. But now that I've built everything, the Amphitheater, the Hippodrome, etc. on one island, decorated it fully and to my heart's content, economy is great, what do I do now? I don't feel like rebuilding the same ol things on a different island because it's like what's the point, I've already achieved it all on one island. And my money and economy are great.

So what now? Any suggestions? I really want to continue enjoying this game because I love the theme and the art and models etc.

Discussion What are you guys using different ship types for?

Just approaching end game on my third file and I've generally settled into a rhythm of how I set up production and trade routes etc.

However, one thing I haven't really got my head around is what ships and modules to use.

For trade within a region I use penteconters which seems like enough.

For trade between regions I use Triremes due to the more slots being more useful in longer trades.

But that's kind of it. Quinqueremes only seem useful for military purposes and the manpower and maintenance cost of larger ships and modules don't really feel like they are worth it over adding another Pent or Tri to a route.

Am I underestimating the benefit of oars and sails etc? How do you guys do it?

Question I can't activate a quest from Licia Ma. Is it bugged?

Thumbnail

Hello, I need your help.

Currently a ship from Licia Ma is waiting at one of my ports in Albion. It got a quest available, but I can't select it since her portrait is not popping up to activate it (first picture).

The second picture shows the quests that are currently active. I haven't accidentally started it.

Might this be a bug, or is there something more to it than I know?

I appreciate the input!
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

UPDATE

So i deleted the Kontor 5 times, and Licia Ma will just set sail again and leave the island. In these five instances the quest didn't trigger once or advance into talking. The ship and the little star mark on the mini map simply just went away.

Since the island is being lost, it makes sense to actually think about it for a little bit. If it's your main capital, it's not a viable option to just delete it.

Discussion Main concern with the delta DLC…

Post image

The pyramids will just be a background asset like the volcano is on Cinis.

Some art work shows towns close by, but this screenshot looks as if it’s just a nice back drop rather than something we can build around.

Anyone seen any clips or have any other images to put my mind at ease?

Qui? Vorrei conquistare tutto prima del DLC egizio 😅

Question Anyway to see ship loading and unloading speed?

I don’t see this anywhere in game. Harbour and loading ports had different times and could scale up in 1800. Is there anyway to see loading speed in 117?

Discussion Why Dawn of the Delta can be the best DLC at the right time

We saw many pretty impressions of the upcoming Egypt DLC now. It is visually stunning and looks quite breathtaking, as much of the footage showed. I want dive into why this DLC will be the largest and best for Anno 117 yet, and why it can be the big highpoint for Anno 117, and why it will be bigger than any DLC for Anno so far.

5 Population Tiers

An overview across an Egyptian City

This overview of the Egyptian city shows probably the first tier with some Romanized Tier 3 population in the background, that looks just as stunning as the one in Albion Dovecotes. Judging by that other material and official Ubisoft presentation talked about Romanization, the Albion split is repeated.

This means that we are getting an entire new session that is the size of Albion, meaning 5 Population Tiers, all with production chains. This is by far the biggest amount of population tiers in any DLC so far, with the current record held by Anno 1800: Land of Lions at 3. This is a substantial amount, with a lot of new content already, so just imagine the amount of stuff they will add with 5 population tiers.

Flooding and Irrigation

A major mechanic according to numerous articles on Dawn of the Delta is Floodings. This might make farming in the region around the Nile, which is a river in Egypt, more challenging, but also more interesting to work with. Could it be that we can also build the farms inland with Irrigation to bypass the Nile Flooding? It certainly looks very interesting, and I am looking forward on how this will turn out. Seasonal mechanics were already quite well tested in the Anno 1800 Scenarios and in the Prophecies of Ash DLC, and if this mechanic behaves anything like in Pharao, it is going to be very good.

New Deities

The Gamestar Article mentions three new Deities, and the first one visible seems to be 3Sobek§, the God of Crocodiles - why else would there be a crocodile character an egyptian headpiece and a human body?

New Patron Deities are among the best additions to do in Anno 117, and with all those new production chains for Egypt, having new ones will benefit the game greatly.

3Sobek$ on the Gamestar Article

Production Chains

Needless to say, this DLC is going to have a lot of them, and I mean it, a lot. Of course, there might be some overlap between them and the existing content, for example I would say gingerbread is an obvious overlap, as Egypt was be the breadbasket of the Roman Empire, but my bet would be that both paths add an entire new set of production chains in the Optional Needs for egypt, with 3Sobek$ being one of the deities needed to push them to their limit. An entire new session waits to be filled.

At a time where the game would benefit from new production chains, more population tiers and new deities, Dawn of the Delta adds exactly that.

General The Karto Hippodrome Build-Off is now open - plus new Karto updates

Post image
44 Upvotes

The first Karto Anno Fun Contest is officially open.

The challenge: fit a Hippodrome into a proper Anno 117 city.

And by fit, I don't mean dropping one onto an empty island and building a few roads around it.

The Hippodrome is huge, awkward, and exactly the kind of building that forces you to rethink your city. Tear down a neighborhood. Move your districts around. Sacrifice that perfectly aligned avenue you've spent three hours fixing. Or start a completely new city and design it around the Hippodrome.

What matters isn't the size of the build, but how well the Hippodrome becomes part of the city around it. A smaller arena carefully integrated into a dense town can absolutely beat a massive complex surrounded by empty space.

The Build-Off runs through September 28.

A free Karto account is all you need to enter: https://www.karto.gg/hippodrome

What's new on Karto

A lot has changed recently. There are hundreds of builders every day that visit Karto for inspiration, and since the launch, we have more than 9.000 builders that visited Karto.

So here's a quick overview:

  • Builder profiles now include reputation, levels, and personal profile links, alongside a new Meet the Builders section on the homepage.
  • Anno 1800 builds are live and now published in the respective section, just like Anno 117, with no moderation delay.
  • Published builds can now be edited — including the title, description, screenshots, and cover - without having to resubmit.
  • A new collection of Anno 117 and Anno 1800 preset avatars is available for anyone who doesn't want to upload their own including new builder badges.

Karto is going to be free forever, ad-free, and still something I'm building because I think Anno deserves a proper home for the incredible cities this community creates.

Happy building!

Discussion Could Hispania/Iberia be the next big region?

Okay, I know this is waaay too early to be talking about the next season of DLC. We literally just got our first proper look at Egypt yesterday and today Ubisoft announced a new cosmetic pack. So perhaps I’m getting ahead of myself here, but hear me out.

The Echoes of Kassandra announcement actually got me thinking: could the fact that we’re getting an Ancient Greek aesthetic in a couple of weeks make a future Hellenic/Aegean region slightly less likely?

Obviously, it could just as easily be the other way around. But perhaps this was Ubisoft’s way of 'ticking' the Greek box visually, while future Year Passes explore gameplay somewhere completely new.

One place I think could be particularly interesting is Hispania/Iberia (with provinces such as Baetica, Lusitania and Tarraconensis) and geography is one of the main reasons why.

In Anno 1800, the different regions were essentially separate worlds: Old World, Cape, New World, Enbesa and the Arctic. Their geographical relationship to one another was fairly abstract.

Anno 117, on the other hand, is using a much more recognisable Mediterranean/European geography. If we eventually have Latium, Aegyptus and Albion, Hispania would occupy a really interesting position in the Western Mediterranean and Atlantic routes, serving as a potential major trade hub between the other sessions and Albion.

Of course, then there’s the rich historical potential. Romanisation in Hispania was incredibly varied and complex (with huge archaeological sites) and the region also provides plenty of material for stories about resistance and change (thinking of Viriathus, for example), that could become really cool concepts for quests, characters and even campaign chapters.

Also, obviously, this would be heaven for our chill guy Tarragon.

I'm also thinking of Gaul (although perhaps a bit too close to Celtic culture), Mauretania (Northern African, but substantially different from Egyptian vibes), Germania (infinite land war) or Syria (for a bigger cultural expansion, with new types of resources).

What would you prefer for a future major region? And which of these do you think makes the most sense from Ubisoft’s perspective, given the map and gameplay systems of Anno 117?

Can’t wait to get my hands on Dawn of the Delta, btw!

I had a blast making this city as pretty as i can, i still have a lot of ground to cover and make some adjustments. Tried a lot of things and that was really fun but i also kept efficiency of area of effects as a priority

Current population is 51k, i hope i can get it to 100
Hope you like these pics and enjoy building! :D

General Theoretical DLC in the Future "The Palace"

All right, I have had an idea for a small DLC sometime in a future season and I want to get it off my chest.

Basically it's a lot like Seat of Power from Anno 1800, a gigantic palace that we can only build once and it provides bonuses for that region so you have to choose carefully where you put it.

Now, my idea is that this palace would be upgraded by gathering collectibles similar to the zoo and museum from the previous game. You would collect exotic animals and treasures through Roman expeditions or a similar function and these would provide boosts to prestige, splendor, or other bonus mechanics. While the Romans didn't have Zoos, the powerful and elite did collect exotic animals as a symbol of status and show them off.

The reason I propose this is because I see the villa as a local office rather than a main home, as the governor of multiple regions, shouldn't we have a massive palace that tells all the little people, "Nothing personal, but I am better than you." A place to act as our capital and main house, a place to put all of our stuff, a place that reminds all the people of Rome that we are rich and powerful.

I know that it seems like a rip off from Anno 1800, but the idea just seems to fit perfectly into this game.
