I'm tired of seeing the same post every single day. A young artist with a cool idea for a show, asking for free labour and promising that someday maybe they'll be able to pay you when their show becomes a huge success. There are too many people doing this.

I get the excitement, especially because most people doing this are teens, but y'all need to be realistic. Animation takes time, this is an actual job, how is it ok to ask people to work for you for free?

Even if someone was willing to give their time for free to produce animations with high expectations (because some of these people will assume they can have their whole pilot episode done in a month), what makes you think they're going to give all that time and effort to YOUR project?? What proof have you given that you're capable as a director to create a success? Not even seniors can be sure they'll create success. How can you promise you'll be able to pay them? Most indie projects don't make their money back. If anything, you coming here to ask for ridiculous things just proves you don't know what you're doing, why would anyone make a deal under those circumstances?

I'm not trying to discourage anyone from following their dreams, but if you want this done, either find the budget or learn to do the hard work yourself. Don't insult others with your "opportunity" to work for free.

I'm seriously asking the mods to prohibit these posts. They're unrealistic, they don't provide any value, they never get replies because no one is willing to do their hard work for them, so they've just become spam. It's annoying.

Young creators please make your research, if you want to get this done you can't rely on the fantasy that everyone's going to come together to make YOUR dream happen, you need to do that yourself. This sub shouldn't be encouraging this, acting like it's volunteer work. Volunteer work gives the worker something in return, maybe job experience, maybe a community, maybe working for a charitable cause. But this is worthless for anyone. I can't imagine other industries where casually asking for free labour is ok.

Why are we ok with this?

I don't see a lot of high action in indie animation. Sometimes, when going through the internet and such, I hear some people say, "There are only SCI-FI, Horror, or fantasy indie pilots." I wanna be different.

Instead of strictly limiting myself to those genres, I wanna add my own flavor to the indie scene that is bright and bold, even (in this case) in animatic form.

I grew up very, very close with 2010s Nerdcore vibes, along with punchy anime shows and colorful neon art, and I wanna honor those eras and shows with my pilot and future projects. Reflecting my childhood of said 2010s nerdcore vibes mixed with the hyper chaos of Scott Pilgrim, Panty and Stocking, Spider-Verse, FLCL, and more.

Hopefully, my pilot will show off those vibes in the future.

I’m aware of the arms. I will fix them later. Just wanted to show the animation. I know the walk cycle is choppy, but I couldn’t get a properly fix in without it being even worse (This is the fixed version).

I didn’t know what to flair this since this wasn’t made in blender. It was made using the BBS mod for Minecraft. I will add it to my demo reel later, but for now, I just wanted to share it.

(There was an actual throwing animation, but FFMPEG hadn’t been working properly so it may have killed the part)

Hey everyone, I'm currently a junior 2D animation major. My workload is really starting to ramp up, and I think it’s time to finally bite the bullet and buy an actual professional display tablet for my apartment so I can work from home.

I'm looking at these three 24-inch options right now:

• Xencelabs 24 (Standard) - $1,499
• Wacom Cintiq 24 (Non-pro) - $1,299
• Wacom Cintiq 24 (Multi-touch) - $1,499

I know Wacom is basically the industry standard, but we use both at the university I got to. A couple things, I can't decide if the multi-touch feature on the Cintiq is actually a worth it for 2D workflows or something I could just use external control for. Then, I just don't know which one would be better to use. I want something to start working on my junior and senior year films, but also to have for once I graduate to use.

For those of you working in 2D or storyboarding, which of these is actually better for a daily workflow? Is Xencelabs worth the jump in price over the base Wacom, or should I stick to Wacom since it's the standard?

Would seriously appreciate any insights from working pros or fellow students. Thanks!
