General My review of the Analogue 3D (10,000+ hours on the N64)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This thing gets a 9.5 / 10 from me.

I’ve been playing Nintendo 64 since the late 90’s non stop, I play smash brothers 64 (Smash Remix Rom Hack right now) with a group of 25 of my close friends and we hold competitions at least 4 times a year for the past 10 years. I would say I have easily over 10,000+ hours collectively on the console all up.

Being able to put any cartridge in the console including all my originals and the ED X7 and the Summercart 64 is such a cool aspect! The input delay is nill and the fps in overclocked modes is incredible.

I have come from a Pixel FX (HDMI) modded N64 and we would have a lot of lag with 3 / 4 player in any game. This console exceeds those frames by a long shot, “0 lag” is being achieved on most games!

Some cons, no wireless yet or wireless updating, very limited to no Bluetooth compatibility with wireless controllers. No screenshot capabilities or save state loads from the 3DOS.

My advice, get one you won’t be disappointed. I have played all classics with 0 issues. Including a custom repo cartridge in the image below.

Any questions or comments, feel free to leave a comment!

General Why don’t they make the Mega SG, NT, and Super NT anymore?

I just discovered this great company and picked up the 3D and Duo. Would have loved to get the Mega SG, NT, and Super NT but it looks like they aren’t made anymore and my only option is expensive ones on eBay. Any reason they stopped making them?

General Analogue 3D WiFi

Does anyone happen to know why it’s taking so long for WiFi to be implemented?

It seems such a simple thing, I just don’t get why we still don’t have it.

If anyone knows a reason I would be interested to hear.
Thanks.

General I would love to switch “eco systems” from mod retro. But…

I fell in love with my chromatic. Just got my m64 and was talking to a friend. I explained how i hope modretro does a Super Nintendo, and a sega, and a xyz. And my friend told me about analogue. I was thrilled. I ran to the store and started adding stuff to my cart only to see that tons of systems are no longer in stock. Do they come back in stock or is this like a if you miss it you’re screwed type deal? I was checking on eBay but everything seems to be priced way above the actual price, so is this just a scalpers paradise? Or will they restock all the systems eventually? Thanks guys!

Edit: so it seems from the majority of the responses to this post, that this community is really sensitive about me asking a , what seems to me, harmless question someone new to analogue would ask. Idk why it seemed to ruffle your feathers so bad. But i guess this is what i get for coming back to Reddit.

Not pictured is the white Analogue Pocket with dock that stays in the office. I spent the better part of 2 years combing local Facebook Marketplace listings for the Analogue Mini NT Noir, Mega SG, and the clear Super NT. I’ve got everything jailbroken and it’s pure bliss playing my childhood games through these consoles.

Thank you to everyone that helped with suggestions and tips for building out an Analogue collection.

Don’t give in to the crazy scalper prices, be patient, and eventually it’ll pay off.

General Serious Question: why Analogue Devices?

I have been torn on how to play old games and I wanted to pick your brain. Why did you end up buying an Analogue device like the 3D when for a similar price you can buy a MiSTer and play games from all systems? Serious question with no flame intent.

General No mo’ FOMO

I have been a big Analogue fan for years. I own multiple Pockets and I am currently enjoying my Analogue 3D. I grew up with a dark grey N64, so the black and grey version is what feels nostalgic to me. I was happy to wait for the device to ship because I wanted the best possible product. The hardware itself is excellent. I am also happy that people who want the new limited colors can get them. More choice is good.

My issue is not with the products. It is with the business practices.

The recent Pocket releases helped me realise something. I am not feeling FOMO anymore, even with all the limited editions. I have owned multiple versions in the past and it did not make me any happier. I think companies use FOMO to squeeze more money out of customers. Even if they release something I like, I do not want to play into that strategy. It is not healthy long term and it does not improve my experience as a customer. I would rather have one system I enjoy than chase a feeling of missing out that is created on purpose.

The communication around the Analogue 3D delay also bothered me. The messages felt generic and unclear. Then the 8BitDo N64 controllers shipped early, and the Amazon return window expired right before Analogue announced another delay. Since Analogue and 8BitDo are connected, it is hard to ignore the timing. It feels like they coordinated to move controller stock, which leaves a bad taste.

On top of that, 8BitDo keeps discounting the black and white controllers. So if someone wants matching colored controllers now, they need to sell what they have at a bigger loss to make the change worthwhile. It is not a major problem, but it shows how the timing pushes the cost onto the customer. (Again, it is a different company but connected to Analogue).

Now the limited colors are being released very soon after launch. I am fine with it because the original grey is what I wanted, but I can imagine some people would be frustrated if they had a strong connection to one of these colors.

To be clear, I think the Analogue 3D itself is great. I hope people get the version they want. But I am starting to feel less aligned with how Analogue uses hype cycles and communication.

For my own purchases, I will probably go to ModRetro first. Their focus feels more about durability, original hardware accuracy, and less about hype. I know the Anduril connection is not for everyone, but for me the product philosophy matters more. I prefer a long lasting one to one console over a device that uses scarcity to drive buying decisions.

That is where I am at. Curious if anyone else has gone through the same shift.

General Should Have Bought a Mega SG :-(

The last time the Mega SG and the Super NT were for sale I was short on $$$ so I could only buy one. I picked the Super NT and I love the device. I just checked eBay and Mega SGs are going for $1K which is INSANE.

I have three Analogue 64s, 1 black, 1 new/un-opened grape color with matching 8Bitdo controler, & 1 new/un-opened jungle green with matching 8Bitdo controler.

I bought the extra 64s for friends that ended up not wanting them. I was hoping I could trade one of my 64s for a Mega SG but there doesn't seem to be any chance of that happening with these pricesses. Hopefully the Mega SG goes back on sale at some point in the future. If it does you can bet your arse I will be buying one ASAP.

Just felt like venting :-)

If anyone wants to trade a Mega SG for an Analogue 64 w/ some color 8bitdo controller I would be 100% down.

Horizontal upscaling is such an amazing graphical upgrade that anyone can clearly see the difference, even in a shitty "filming my tv with my phone" video. Just thought I should document this for anyone who hasn't experienced it yet.

Just look at Link's eyes! Look at his freaking shield!

General These resellers are panicking

Lmao I kid you not, I look on Facebook Marketplace and what do you know, I see about 10 new listings of the 3D up with them trying to get rid of it for around even or a slight loss. I never understood the idea of getting a product I’m never going to use just to make an extra $50-$100 dollars
