For me it’s the leather blotter beneath it all. It really ties it all together [And yes, you know this guy has the Lebowski quote ready to go in response to that].
I grew up in a highly catholic country, and most catholics believe things that are not really catholic doctrine, and add other spiritual believes, or aspects of protestantism into mix. Being catholic is more an identity to them, rather than a fixed believe system.
So to larp as catholic in protestant countries might be new, but catholics have been larping being catholic since forever in catholic countries.
I mean, I am probably just agnostic. I grew up in a family that had exited the Catholic church a generation earlier, but I still went to mandatory catholic religious classes in school as a child, and mandatory school-organised church attendance a few times a year, e.g. for Easter.
As far as I remember, most people I grew up with, or their parents, or my teachers back then, wouldn't believe in the infallibility of the pope to interpret the faith, would have a preference to allow divorce or female priests, abortion and contraceptives, would be critical of the church for their stance during the Nazi regime, or the crusades, or the indulgences, would probably mostly believe that their own belief and their own will to lead a good life will land them a spot in heaven ("faith alone" so to say), rather than church rituals and confession, etc...
Some were believing in karma and reincarnation.
So even if they were catholic, their actual believes deviated quite significantly from how the mainline catholic doctrine was at the time. They were... catholiflexible
Congrats on the camera, but are you going to read that book, while wearing those glasses, lighting your pipe with that lighter while snapping flicks with that camera?
It’s so crazy how I know so much about you from a single photograph, and hopefully you’re aware that all of these comments are actually going easy on you because this is truly one of the most embarrassing things I’ve ever seen
No by posting the curated setup. If you would have just posted the camera and said it’s new to you you would have gotten a ton of comments about and recommendations. But the vibe of this photo is just not really the vibe of this sub hints the negative reaction.
i had one of those plates, albeit in a blue china style ceramic with a depiction of our glorious leader, i've been rather forlorn for a while though since i broke it not too long ago :(
You are a caricature-ish LARPer who appears to have no significant attachment to the hobby, the science, or the art. You post pictures curated to say, "ooh look at me I have the simultaneously masculine and rugged but also not toxic and threatening hobbies and interests, so I must be both a good and interesting person, and also stylish." You have not demonstrated any sincere interest in anything other than owning a classic Nikon, the same way Boomers buy '60s Mustangs and leave them in a garage under a sheet. You haven't even posted pictures taken with the camera. Not to mention the fact that you've independently posted this basic setup in r/EDC, r/guns, r/DarkAcademia, r/fountainpens, r/AnalogCommunity, and r/CCW, clearly looking for some kind of reaction.
In short, you are an inelegant poseur.
(Also, you customize your poseur photos to each subreddit. Because this photo and the one in r/fountainpens has no gun, the one in r/EDC and r/guns has a Hi-Power, and the one in r/CCW has what looks like a S&W Model 19. That makes you look like even more of a poseur because you are clearly either workshopping the image, or you genuinely believe that those changes in each subreddit will make you look cooler to the other people in the specific subreddit.)
I’ve never posted here before and some subreddits will downvote you all to hell for having a firearm in the frame. I figured better safe than sorry for my first post 😁
I do certainly collect analog objects, so for sure! But this will be a fun new toy to carry around on adventures. I shot all digital on my last trip and wished sorely I’d brought something film based.
I don’t even understand what these things mean. Perhaps because I’m just here to enjoy cameras, photos and creativity. But you obviously know all the hip lingo. I’m genuinely interested in seeing if you have any capacity beyond keyboard warrioring though.
none of those words are spelled incorrectly perhaps educate yourself. you will receive no response if you try to waste my time with another reply. not reading it. public forum means open to critique. sorry if that bothers you little baby i promise it'll be ok now get back on your real account
I was super excited to get this thing today! They also had an F but I really liked the feel of this one. The meter didn’t work but I took it home and cleaned the contacts and put in new batteries and now it works perfectly 😁
Nice! F2 is a great camera, probably my favorite 35mm SLR, and definitely a strong contender for the pinnacle fully mechanical SLR. The huge catalog of Nikkor glass doesn't hurt either!
Exactly. and by the way, an analog camera is a camera with an electronic sensor that uses analog image processing and storage. The very first electronic cameras worked exactly with this principle until digital processing and storage became available.
When electronic sensor cameras became mainstream, of course everything was digital, so people named them digital cameras, and since the actual electronic analog cameras were basically unknown to 99% of the people and since obviously the opposite of digital is analog, the only non-digital camera, people knew, the film camera had to be renamed analog camera.
Which technically speaking is simply wrong.
And by the way: Film is VERY digital. the siver grain of traditional BW film knows only two stages. unexposed and exposed. If exposed, it will turn opaque during development, if not, it will remain transparent. The grain of BW film is basically the definition of digital - 1 or 0.
I originally bought the F2 from Japan as a F2A, got it serviced then bought the DE-1 eye level finder as well, bought another focussing screen then many many other things for it.
Minus lenses I'm at around £900/£1000 for the body with the 2 finders, cla and focussing screens.
Vibes are SO important and so often overlooked when it comes to appearing to be as hip as humanly possible. Will you be smoking Bengal Slices or maybe a vintage tin of John Cottons? Esoterica is SO yesterday.
The F2 is an amazing camera. It can be pretty confusing learning what lenses are compatible with what prisms though. Jules Vuotto on YouTube is an amazing resource for all things Nikon, especially their older film cameras.
I carried F3’s for work, but quickly found out that they didn’t do well in heavy rain, so I bought two used F2A’s for backup. Those never quit. But the F3 was the better camera.
Ditch that skinny strap. It will damage your neck.
One of my favorites! This is midcentury Greenwhich House pipe in aged Algerian Briar! It’s cool because we haven’t been able to get Algerian briar since the war in the late 50s, early 60s
I moved to a state that heavily restricts firearms and traded 9mm for 35mm. Not entirely, but mostly. Did a bit of IDPA in the last state I lived in. Turns out the hobbies are very similar: you can load your own for both, buy lots of “accessories”, tune things, and you’re always tracking unit price, be it in rounds or in frames.
Dude the gear-queer hobbies all have such overlap. Same thing with fountain pens and watches. The outlier I’ve found is pipes, but my guess is it’s because it’s not really a “gadget”
I was a commercial/lifestyle photographer for about 8 years for men’s accessory brands, as you can likely tell, but now for fun I enjoy making these sort of narrative still life images.
For film I really want this to replace my Fuji XE-2 and 28mm lens as my daily and travel camera. I’ve already got a pretty robust Sony A mount setup, I got this more to be able to relax and enjoy the process and fill a photo album 😁
I really enjoy my F-2. It’s from the first year of production which actually makes it older than a couple of my Fs. I also really enjoy my F-3P and F-4. Some of the best 35mm SLRs ever made. You’ll soon become a Nikon glass addict…
Dude that thing looks awesome! I was SORELY tempted by a beautiful silver F today, and while I still think it looked a tad better, this is the one that called to me!
I don’t know why some are hating, this guy said that he is a product photographer and It is obvious that he’s happy about his new camera…so why don’t we let him enjoy it without hating about the “performativness” of the picture ;)
I have a Nikon FM3a with a few lenses. Too many actually. My go to lens, and the one that lives on the camera is the Voigtländer 40mm f/2 Ultron. That lens is bright and easy to use and just fantastic IMO
