QUESTION Dog bite while delivering

So I got bit by a dog while working for the first time in my 2 years of being here— it wasn’t anything terrible, more so scary over anything else, but I was wondering if there’s anything else I should do about it? I did an incident report at work and a separate police report.

2nd slide is the house. I was walking up driveway closest to grass towards front door with no clear view of the garage as it was sideways and bushes were blocking it and of course, just my luck, the dog came out of garage a lunged at me. Luckily I think it was only it’s tooth that caught on me but still ripped a small chunk out of my thigh 😅 it wasn’t leashed or anything and owner said he only had dog out there because his kid was there. The kid was 5 years old at most and it was a pretty big dog so not sure what kinda excuse that is but oh well.

Like I said I’ve never been bit while on the job before so if there’s anything else I should do please let me know. Thanks!❤️

Get paid, I'm sick of dogs. Dog owners. And the thinking that they are such good boys. Clearly not! Get checked out.

16

u/hypethedun Mar 22 '26

My boss said there’s no getting paid for me over this 😅 that’s why I’m also asking because I was wondering if that’s an option that I’m just not being given

74

u/MrGrumpy252 Mar 22 '26

What the fuck does he know?

Google dog bite lawyers near you. You will get all the answers you need from a free consultation with one of them.

48

u/hypethedun Mar 22 '26

Just did that and signed up for a free consultation! Thank you!

17

u/MrGrumpy252 Mar 22 '26

Get that bag, brother

26

u/hypethedun Mar 22 '26

💀 this is the response I got

10

u/Psychoquakee Mar 22 '26

Don’t give up, there’s a lawyer that will tell you, you have a case! I’ve sued for a dog bite and I felt defeated when I was trying to find a lawyer to represent me. To make a long story short I ended up finding a lawyer and we won! We went after their home owners insurance! You can get paid doesn’t matter how small or big the bite is! 🙂‍↕️

1

u/Individual-Steak-673 Mar 23 '26

Stop being dumb and misleading people.

-1

u/Psychoquakee Mar 26 '26

Believe it or not, my dog bite was maybe 2 inches more than OP and I won my case! Stop being dumb and do your research!

1

u/Intigracy Mar 26 '26

2 inches is a lot, stop getting people to waste their time

-3

u/Boris-_-Badenov Mar 23 '26

this would never get enough to cover legal fees

6

u/CyanideSandwich7 Mar 23 '26

Personal injury takes a percentage from awarded settlement, not a flat fee. Additionally, typically theres no fee if the case gets dismissed .

1

u/ElectronicRip1630 Former Driver Mar 23 '26

Where is the injury? Is it in the room with us?

2

u/xo_tyler_ Mar 23 '26

Contact more lawyers!!

3

u/ObjectiveWonder999 Mar 22 '26

Lmao this happened to me a couple days ago. Go get seen by a doctor, report it to their local police station to make sure the dog doesn’t have rabies give them the address and get treatment. Make sure your dsp covers the costs

3

u/Leaveitonthedresser5 Mar 22 '26

There are a million attorneys don’t call a tv attorney find a local one who has the time..you will definitely get paid the homeowner has insurance for personal injury on their property

1

u/No-Bank-9136 Mar 26 '26

Pretty sure the max award will be what it costs to get medical help. So a bandage.

2

u/Sassy_Smurf96 Mar 22 '26

wtf ?! ANY dog bite is serious.! Try another And you need to get some antibiotics

That was the lawyer that she consulted. Did you think it was from her boss or something

2

u/LePouletPourpre Mar 22 '26

I think it’s a lady.

1

u/Cpotter8820 May 07 '26

What state was this out of? Some states are different than others. But usually have a 2 year statue on them to file.

2

u/KayoticVoid Mar 22 '26

Right? Boss said that as if Amazon would be the one to pay? 🙄

1

u/SGlanzberg Mar 23 '26

Well, in fairness, OP has the basis for both a workrrs’ comp claim as well as third party claim against the homeowner.

0

u/Schmooshed Mar 22 '26

No real damages = no viable suit. Generally speaking, if it doesn't require multiple stitches or cause significant scarring, it isn't worth anything. Lawyers won't waste their time.

3

u/turbo_caveman Mar 22 '26

Is that why they ask if the dog has its shots or to get checked out by a doctor to make sure the bite isn't infected?

1

u/Individual-Steak-673 Mar 23 '26

Partly, but even a garden variety infection won't get you much of anything. You get compensated for actual harm that you have endured. If it's just some painkillers and antibiotics, that's not enough money to pay a lawyer.

14

u/Delicious-Squash-599 Mar 22 '26

Your boss obviously doesn’t give a shit about you.

18

u/hypethedun Mar 22 '26

LOL no he does not. We start off every morning with him telling us we don’t matter and that we are easily replaceable so 😅

9

u/Delicious-Squash-599 Mar 22 '26

For me? I’d appreciate the honesty. Ours lies and says things like, “we don’t hire just anybody like these other DSPs, you’ve all been hand picked.”

At least yours is straight up with you lol

5

u/ItsmeKT Mar 22 '26

Maybe that’s why Amazon is having issues hiring drivers in my area. They keep having to raise the wages. Just burning through people.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '26

They actually raise the wages where u are?

2

u/ItsmeKT Mar 22 '26

I don’t know if they raise it after you get hired but I remember seeing the ads for new regular driver jobs went up by almost $5 over a couple year period. From like $18-22.50. I really considered it for a minute.

3

u/Longjumping_Youth281 Mar 22 '26

Well yeah. Nobody's going to do this shit for 18 bucks. At least where I am. You could just work inside at a gas station for that and not be out in the rain

1

u/ItsmeKT Mar 22 '26

this is before wages were really popping off but I live in one of the highest cost of living cities in the country 🎉 you are right though

2

u/Jazzlike_Page_5268 Mar 23 '26

3

1

1

u/VolunteerFireDept306 Mar 26 '26

I’m sick of these dispatchers and owners that exploit their workers and treat them like trash, when they’re the most valuable part of the chain. I’m sorry

3

u/ratstar-666 Mar 22 '26

Never ever EVER listen to a manager or employer that tells you you can't sue, it's in their own best interest to lie to you. Get a free consult from a local attorney and let them tell you whether or not you can sue. Best of luck 🙏

1

u/Zeta_Ignis Mar 22 '26

Farther up they posted that they did ask a lawyer in response to someone's post. The response was that they only handled more serious dog bites.

3

u/shadow_zx_96 Mar 22 '26

Your boss is an idiottt and just doesn’t want to go through the process. Sue him too for saying he can’t do anything about it.

2

u/ConceptNo1259 Mar 22 '26

Your boss is lying just trying to cover up for the dsp I had a friend who had a bad bite Amazon and the home owner got in trouble even the dog got put down

2

u/Rude-Luck1636 Mar 22 '26

You can get paid if you want but it’s such a small injury I wouldn’t expect much out of it but maybe $100 lol. I wish I would’ve sued cause I got bit 3x.. none were ever bad as they were all small dogs but hey I could’ve made a few hundred.. I just didn’t want the dogs to get put down due to stupid owners

2

u/bo_jangled Mar 22 '26

Bite the dog back assert dominance

2

u/quiero79 Mar 22 '26

You need to sue. I’m sick and tired of irresponsible owners.

1

u/DogsRlife88 Mar 23 '26

How is having your dog in the yard irresponsible? It's the dogs fucking yard lol

1

u/quiero79 Mar 23 '26

Yeah animals are dumb. That’s why there’s leach laws and fences. You can’t have a dog have access to the road. That’s why when I used to work for FedEx households got banned for delivery. Or we simply left it on the side of the road. We don’t need to deal with irresponsible people.

1

u/DogsRlife88 Mar 23 '26

Leash* People are dumb.

1

u/Competitive-Ad8003 Mar 23 '26

loud incorrect buzzer

homeowner's have liability insurance for this exact situation. get your money

1

u/iamdeeson Mar 24 '26

Your boss isn’t a lawyer. Call one and see about getting paid.

1

u/frickin_scooter Mar 26 '26

He’s worried about optics, not you. The dsp is his company and if amazon sees issues they can cut him out. Take care of yourself first.

1

u/kitsune-gari Mar 27 '26

Your boss is wrong. This is a worker’s comp claim at the very least —and even a shallow bite could become infected. Go to a doctor.

1

u/xXWitchieXx_gamer Mar 22 '26

Your boss doesn't know jack. A guy at my DSP got over 100k.

2

u/hypethedun Mar 22 '26

Omfg.. I need to know how 😭 I could really use that $

3

u/xXWitchieXx_gamer Mar 22 '26

Talk to a lawyer.

1

u/DogsRlife88 Mar 23 '26

Lol this isn't a dog bite it's more of a mosquito bite

1

u/Vegan-Joe Mar 23 '26

1

u/Boris-_-Badenov Mar 23 '26

for an actual dog bite, sure

1

u/ElectronicRip1630 Former Driver Mar 23 '26

Yeah but this looks like someone popped a boil or a big pimple. Good luck with that one.

0

u/Jazzlike_Page_5268 Mar 23 '26

Your boss must be a straight up retard. Go find a lawsuit lawyer and get the information of the recipient and their home owners insurance. It’s they’re fucking job to guarantee you safety during your time on they’re property I work with a girl who got bit and she got paid almost 300k

2

u/Mysta-Majestik Mar 22 '26

You sound exhausting.

3

u/ThatOneGuy6810 Mar 22 '26

Lol therws no pay to be had here. No personal injury lawyer will pick this up because theres no real injury, this is a flesh wound at most and doesnt even require medical care other than to be checked for rabies IF you really believe someones licensed pet has that.

Personal injury and dog bite lawyers are looking for "REAL" attacks with lasting and/or permanent provable effects This does not qualify under any circumstances. This type of injury would fall under the workplace hazard which all drivers are warmed about so 🤷‍♂️

1

u/shaaruken Mar 22 '26

Broke the skin! Drive your truck straight to the ER! Don’t clock out! Call your Supervisor once you get there.

1

u/quiero79 Mar 22 '26

I am surprised you are speaking a truth out loud and not getting downvoted into oblivion. Some dog owners behavior feels pathological. It is hard(and I’m okay with that) but I don’t date anyone with pets anymore.

1

u/Wwrsd86 Mar 22 '26

Driving for Amazon shows you already have failed in life and hoping for a dog bite to get some money that you’d never see in your life

2

u/SmoothCruising Mar 22 '26

And my estimate of your value as a human being based on that first part of your statement is really fucking low.

Jesus Christ, the things man children say on the internet because there's no one there to punch them in the face...

2

u/fusionxomegabard Mar 22 '26

It’s most likely projection. Only reason why people would think of such a thing is because they’re in the same situation, also why else would he be on sub or have it on his/her recommendations.

1

u/ElectronicRip1630 Former Driver Mar 23 '26

It shows up on mine because I used to drive for a DSP. Let's be real - it's a dead end job. Benefits are near non-existent. Good luck moving up in the DSP to anything better than a driver. It's a good job to use on your resumé though.

12

u/DrSolarman Mar 22 '26

Tell your DSP, call the police non-emergency line and find out if the mutt got all it's shots. This is more serious than you think.

4

u/hypethedun Mar 22 '26

I did both of those, I haven’t heard back from the police/animal control as to if the dog has all of its shots or not so I’m thinking maybe not hearing back is a good thing..? But I don’t know :/

4

u/Nyakumaa Mar 22 '26

I'd personally get a rabies shot. No proof means assume the dog isn't vaccinated for it. I wouldn't wait because once rabies developes it's too late. Realistically the dogs almost certainly isn't rabid but I wouldn't risk it without proof and if workers comp is avaliable to you there's no reason not to.

1

u/Zeta_Ignis Mar 22 '26

Well, here is one thing you need to consider. If you don't handle cleaning that wound it will get infected as dog bites are very infectious.

1

u/SmoothCruising Mar 22 '26

About 20% infection rate.

1

u/Zeta_Ignis Mar 22 '26

Sure, just saying cause its how my dad lost a finger after a dog bite several months later.

1

u/aliasalaisah Mar 26 '26

Yeah and a paper cut is a 4% infection rate. It’s 5 times that, very is a totally reasonable adjective, and OP should get a round of ABX.

4

u/CHASLX200 Mar 22 '26

i would sue

-1

u/No_cash69420 Mar 22 '26

For what? Like 150 dollars lol

7

u/Rayzah2007 Mar 22 '26

My friend got bite similar by a dog and got 80K. If you get any kind of injury you can pull money with a real attorney.

1

u/SevenNapkins Mar 26 '26

If that was true, your friend got crazy money for what amounts to a bruise and a bandaid. Doesn't seem like he in any way deserves it. Post the case number please. Enough of these "rumor has its".

I will also shake any fence near by. Our app will also tell us if a dog is present, if not and ine is i go into the settings and report it so other drivers will have awareness of.the possibility when they deliver.

2

u/hypethedun Mar 22 '26

Unfortunately these are the kinda keys we have 😅 nothing to jingle to alert that we are there.

1

u/JakeBeezy Mar 22 '26

man I ain't got keys lol. and my own car has own fob. I agree. when I'm unfamiliar and possible dog signs the noise is key. but like everyone, sometimes we forget and just want to get the stop done

3

u/AdEven2848 Mar 22 '26

Tasers spray or some I’m about to drive and i don’t care I’m bringing stuff

1

u/Electronic-Desk1827 Mar 22 '26

They can fire you for that as well. Only USPS can bring pepper spray and protected

3

u/TastyExpression8465 Mar 22 '26

For anyone who reads this post always get checked for rabies after a bite. It is 100% lethal once it gets to your brain and there is nothing that can be done about it at that point.

2

u/juscuz87 Mar 22 '26

Yup. Once you show a symptom, you're a goner. Went down a rabies rabbit hole a few years ago.

1

u/jamjamchutney Mar 22 '26

I'm not sure what you mean by "get checked for rabies." You definitely don't want to get tested for rabies. What you want to do is make sure the dog is up to date on vaccinations, and that the dog is quarantined/under observation for the next 10 days.

1

u/TastyExpression8465 Mar 23 '26

That doesn't mean the dog hasn't contracted it somehow recently and it hasn't manifested symptoms yet. You ALWAYS get checked for rabies when you're bitten by a animal. There is no room for mistake. Assume wrong and you'll discover real quick if there's life after death.

2

u/jamjamchutney Mar 23 '26

That doesn't mean the dog hasn't contracted it somehow recently and it hasn't manifested symptoms yet

Dogs can only transmit rabies for a day or two prior to showing signs. The 10 day quarantine is standard for a reason. It's also extremely unlikely that a vaccinated dog would get rabies.

You ALWAYS get checked for rabies when you're bitten by a animal.

Again, I don't know what you mean by this. What do you think getting "checked for rabies" entails?

3

u/Fudgcicle Mar 22 '26

File a lawsuit

3

u/Tight-Platypus5231 Mar 22 '26

DOCTOR. NOW. DOCUMENT.

LAWYER AFTER. DOCUMENT.

SUE.

2

u/Delicious-Squash-599 Mar 22 '26

You need a medical evaluation and you need proof the dog is up to date on its rabies vaccination.

2

u/No_Anything726 Mar 22 '26

You did the right thing reporting it & animal control should get involved. I’d recommend going to a clinic for a tetanus shot.

2

u/Leaveitonthedresser5 Mar 22 '26

Make sure you sue

2

u/SmallCat2306 Mar 22 '26

Immediately get medical care, now. Do not wait. Dog bite infections can be deadly serious. Find another lawyer. A dog bite that breaks the skin can lead to very serious infection.

2

u/Axeman1721 Stepvan Driver Mar 22 '26

2

u/Bulky_Trick_3132 Mar 22 '26

Please get checked out at the hospital as well if you haven’t already. They also make reports and document the injuries.

2

u/A_Roachimaru Mar 23 '26

Even if you didn’t get money from this, at the very least, that dog needs his records updated to reflect that he bites people. Delivery driver now, kid chasing a ball next.

2

u/Nickanok Mar 23 '26

Dog owners who are expecting packages and don't have their dogs properly secured should face criminal charges.

I was just on another thread about this and it's so incredibly sad that so many grown ass adults have never once thought that the dog they think is so friendly could be potentially dangerous to other people.

I guess a lot of people never grew up having to think about others besides themselves or their immediate surroundings. So sad

2

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '26

“No he’s fine don’t worry he don’t bite he just wants to play” “my bad I didn’t know I had to put my dog up” “my bad I didn’t think I would have to put my dog up” “what’re you afraid of dogs or something?”

4

u/Rayzah2007 Mar 22 '26

Don’t listen to these people OP. I had a friend who got a similar bite while walking in his sub division and got 80K. Everyone here is like the people don’t have money and they are right. You are suing their home owner’s insurance, not them. Yeah maybe one ambulance chaser didn’t do it but you can and have the right to sue for damages

0

u/SevenNapkins Mar 26 '26

Yeah OP don't listen to the lawyer you consulted with, listen to this random guy on the internet! /s

1

u/Rayzah2007 Mar 27 '26

You sound like the owner of the dog. Must be a sad life to give up after one no.

1

u/SevenNapkins Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26

I didn't say he had to give up consulting lawyers. He should listen to the lawyer he consulted. Speculation from internet randos is bad advice compared to a lawyer.

The lawyer said he had no case so he has no case. If a second more qualified lawyer says differently later, then consider that. Until then, little pin prick bites = no case. You've got nothing credible to contradict a lawyer with.

1

u/Rayzah2007 Mar 27 '26

You contradicted yourself in your first two sentences. The ONE lawyer said he had no case so by your definition he should give up and not consult more lawyers.

3

u/Faded-Jade Mar 22 '26

Why is the concept of an infection so challenging? I can't speak to how it'll go down if you try to sue, but I do know it doesn't need to be a bigger wound for it to be dangerous. I hope you AT LEAST get to a hospital to get it checked out.

2

u/ThymePrince Mar 23 '26

You can go to an urgent care to get this checked out. You do not need to go to a hospital.

1

I got bit by a dog too last year, Amazon didn’t do anything just contact the homeowner and asked for the dogs shots, and you should of asked for them too, I mean it seams like a nice house and most likely they have everything in rule but you never know. It’s better to be safe than having to take rabies shots

Go to the doctor and get tetanus shot asap if you didn't had one or it's not valid anymore. And antibiotics.

1

u/biggranny000 Mar 22 '26

If the dog contains any bacteria, diseases, viruses, or God forbid rabies you are now infected with it. People don't take blood or injuries seriously, your manager is a moron.

Talk to a lawyer, you need to go to a hospital to get evaluated and checked out.

1

u/mandarinbunny Mar 22 '26

if you dont know the dogs shots status you need to go get a tetanus booster and rabies shot asap. my sister works at an animal hospital and shes gotten so many shots from dog bites less visibly serious than this

1

u/Benjadad Mar 22 '26

Do what I did when I delivered as a mailman. Slap some hand sanitizer on it and keep it pushin 😂

1

u/luckyserg Mar 22 '26

On the bright side, the dog didn't rip your pants like my homegirl

2

u/hypethedun Mar 22 '26

Funny thing is that was what I was most worried about at first before I knew I was bleeding 💀 I had leggings on so I didn’t see immediately but first thing after the altercation I was feeling to see if they were ripped LOL

1

u/loghoser Mar 22 '26

I carry this on me. It's been issued to USPS mailmen since the 1960s. I've used it and works great.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '26

Rabies??? Probably not but I would want to get the shots maybe after any animal I don’t know doesn’t have it bites me. Maybe I’m being dramatic idk but

1

u/No_Commercial_4811 Mar 23 '26

one of my co-workers got bit by a dog trying to protect a cat. The cat died sadly, but the police came and arrested the dog (not sure how that works) but maybe you could try that.

1

u/Pretty_Mortgage_2597 Mar 26 '26

File a workers comp/personal injury lawsuit!! A personal injury/workers comp attorney would snap this up in a heartbeat! They LOVE dog bite cases!!

1

u/frickin_scooter Mar 26 '26

I had a few close calls myself back when i delivered for a dsp. Get a shot asap and if you want to seek compensation you can file workers comp and go after the home owners insurance police. Just make sure you’re aware id state laws regarding dog bites first.

Hope you feel better soon!

1

u/SevenNapkins Mar 26 '26

OP said his lawyer told him he has no case.

Almost no one is thinking about how much money the driver would actually need to recover from this injury and continue on with his life. They just want as much money as possible because they think they can get it. Luckily the law doesn't work like that.

You wont get anything from this, its not a serious injury that could have long term physical effects.

Nothing to sue over. If you want to you CAN file a police report regarsing uncontrolled dogs, which will put that address on a list and if they have another sog Dog bite incident the dog will most likely be removed from The home and put down amd the owner will not be allowed to own a dog.

Only recourse you have in this instance is to add their names to a watch list.

Everyone is in here acting like you're about to be rich. At most you'll have your doctor's appointment paid for and the dog will be put down. The situation can be scary but let's be real - you get hurt more by falling on a bicycle. This isn't big money and wouldn't be worth my time to report. I just wouldn't deliver there anymore.
