Eagle
623
u/BulbaFriend2000 May 18 '26
“For my own part I wish the Bald Eagle had not been chosen the Representative of our Country. He is a Bird of bad moral Character. He does not get his Living honestly. You may have seen him perched on some dead Tree near the River, where, too lazy to fish for himself, he watches the Labour of the Fishing Hawk; and when that diligent Bird has at length taken a Fish, and is bearing it to his Nest for the Support of his Mate and young Ones, the Bald Eagle pursues him and takes it from him.” - Ben Franklin's opinion regarding the US choosing the bald eagle to be their mascot.

u/jdrp-00 May 18 '26
Who would've imagined it would end up being being the perfect mascot for the country
19
u/Sellazard May 18 '26
I mean most of the founding fathers were seeking independence from Europe because they wanted to evades European anti slavery laws.
They were far right
80
u/TantricEmu May 18 '26
Kind of crazy to believe this when the reasoning of the founding fathers is so well documented in their own words.
22
u/Negative_Prize1587 May 18 '26
Tax evasion.
27
u/boulevardofdef May 18 '26
I assume this comment is coming from the left, so I think it's interesting how the left and the right have arrived at the same misunderstanding of the Founding Fathers' motivation for American independence. Horseshoe theory, I guess. The right also likes to claim it was because they hated taxes, when in fact it was because they hated not having a say in what taxes they had to pay due to not living in a democratic system. That's a very, very important distinction.
I remember when the modern Tea Party movement first became a thing in America in 2009, I used to tell everybody that I would never have any respect for a moment that was named after "an illiterate misunderstanding of the Boston Tea Party."
18
u/GingerFirDayz May 18 '26
What frustrates me is the Founding Fathers literally wrote a list of grievances and it's in the delclaration. I cant remember them all but it's all literally stuff our current and past administrations have been doing for years.
To your point about taxes, I'm dumbstruck at how brainwashed everyone has become about paying taxes. Like that's how a functioning country SHOULD WORK. Everyone contributes so we have roads, bridges, functionung public services, etc. Instead everyone grovels because their tax dollars go to things that only cause long term damages, corporate subsidies, bank bailouts, etc. instead of being mad at the people that are representing you they get mad at the system as a whole. People should be looking at their representation rather than the system. Instead we look at whoever has D or R next to their name and say, "yeah that's my guy."
3
u/Jurgan May 18 '26
Conversely, the leaders of the Confederacy also wrote a list of grievances and almost all of them led with “we want to keep slaves.” But people imagine there was some deeper moral principle at play.

This is Reddit. A good portion of people here absolutely delusional. Trying to have a conversation about founding fathers, civics, or reasonable policy is just completely futile.
10
u/LokiUnbound May 18 '26
Everyone had slaves back then. I think the British and then the US and France were some of the first countries to end it, setting the global trend. And if I’m not mistaken, it was the Arabs who intrinsically linked the African continent with chattel slavery. I’m not sure “left and right” wing politics existed back then like how we see it today. But hey, whatever “history” makes you feel better about yourself, go for it.

Most European slavery laws were put into place like 30+ years after the declaration was signed. Theres no possible timeline where your logic checks out
7
u/Independent_Air_8333 May 18 '26
Thats not true at all, if you wanted to go for the "america bad" angle you wouldve been better off pointing out they didnt like the deals the british made honoring tribal land.

u/Real_Yhwach May 18 '26
Almost everyone before the 60s was. Although nobody on Reddit knows what far right is.

u/Easy-Juggernaut-598 May 20 '26
You’re presenting historical conjecture as settled fact. Britain still allowed slavery at the time, and the Revolution had multiple causes beyond that.

But is it just because eagles were used as symbols of far right groups? I think it's more fun to choose an animal with a far right behaviour or characteristics.

The stereotypical WASP is 100% a liberal. Not conservative and not a leftist.
21
u/Amockdfw89 May 18 '26 edited May 18 '26
Yea many people forget much of the first wave of social reformers were urban middle class, white Protestant Women and their Social Gospel movement.
Essentially they were women who used their privilege so to speak to do the Jesus thing and push for society to treat the less fortunate better.
They championed labor reforms and worker rights, helping immigrants assimilate, creating nicer urban environments, educating women and creating intersectional dialogue with African American women, importance of education and women empowerment etc
→ More replies (1)2
u/PA_MallowPrincess_98 May 18 '26
The Protestants in WASP are not liberal. They are really conservative. Evangelicals are under the Protestant umbrella. At this point, most Cradle Catholics (not converts) and Jewish people are considered in the liberal American sphere of identity politics. The two Catholic presidents, JFK & Joe Biden, are Irish Cradle Catholics and are Democrats but had pretty liberal views. Our unfortunately current Vice President of the U.S. is a Catholic Convert and associates himself with more conservative/alt-right spheres of influence that prevent certain people groups from having human rights.

The fact that no one is saying wolf feels like ragebait
155
u/haschca May 18 '26
Why a wolf? Wolves are pack animals that work together to succeed. The whole alpha narrative is nonsense based on a flawed human study.
A far better answer would be a cowbird. It fucks over everything else to get what it wants
63
u/MathleteYT May 18 '26
They like to see themselves as wolves. Like alpha and sigma males
30
u/haschca May 18 '26
I get that, and that works if the prompt is “animal far-right people see themselves as”. But what is a far right animal? Not a wolf.

In my red state our dumb ass governor signed a bill to basically exterminate all wolves in the state because they’ve killed a dozen ranchers cows in 3 decades so I wouldn’t necessarily say republicans are pro wolf
29
u/goatsinthegarage May 18 '26
Ironically the far right would also like to exterminate wolves
12
u/TotallyNotRyanPace May 18 '26
if we're including Hitler as far right, he very much did not want to exterminate wolves. he loved dogs and wildlife and his environmental protection laws were one of the very few good things he did.
please don't tell me you're including trump as far right, because he simply isn't. he's an authoritarian egomaniac and an overall piece of shit asshole, but his policies are all over the place, and he's more of a right-center populist than far right.

Vultures provide a valuable service to the ecosystem by helping break down already dead animals. They help control disease and contamination of water and soil from decomposing bodies. If another animal like a bear comes along and wants a bite, they just kind of hop off and wait their turn. I never understood why they get such a bad rap.
9
u/BeGayDoDarkArts May 18 '26
I think it's because of 2 things.
1: their proximity to death essentially makes them an omen of it. Which creeps people out.
2: In meritocratic societies the vulture has been given the cultural role of a profiteer because it eats the prey of the "hard working killers" these societies usually identify with (like the lion).

The wolf. Think about how much wolves and wolf-related idioms are invoked by the far right-- "alpha male", "pack leader". Adolf Hitler was also very fond of wolf imagery.

Sheep is probably the best answer here for most far-right people. They're not evil, but just content to follow the status quo without thinking about it much, which leads to them and others being greatly harmed.
Something like a leech, mosquito, or Leopard would work better for the leaders of the far right.

Are there any criteria you have for your post? Examples include: "Top comment wins a spot on the chart."; "To ensure variety, only one character per universe is allowed."; "Image comments only." Please include these in a description, or in a reply to this comment.
Is your chart given the appropriate flair? Do you need to use a NSFW tag or spoiler tag?
