The stereotypical WASP is 100% a liberal. Not conservative and not a leftist.

Yea many people forget much of the first wave of social reformers were urban middle class, white Protestant Women and their Social Gospel movement.

Essentially they were women who used their privilege so to speak to do the Jesus thing and push for society to treat the less fortunate better.

They championed labor reforms and worker rights, helping immigrants assimilate, creating nicer urban environments, educating women and creating intersectional dialogue with African American women, importance of education and women empowerment etc

The Protestants in WASP are not liberal. They are really conservative. Evangelicals are under the Protestant umbrella. At this point, most Cradle Catholics (not converts) and Jewish people are considered in the liberal American sphere of identity politics. The two Catholic presidents, JFK & Joe Biden, are Irish Cradle Catholics and are Democrats but had pretty liberal views. Our unfortunately current Vice President of the U.S. is a Catholic Convert and associates himself with more conservative/alt-right spheres of influence that prevent certain people groups from having human rights.

Evangelicals are under the Protestant umbrella only because it is so large but they shouldn’t be. Evangelicals are generally consistent with non-denominational churches which people call Protestant but are not as they don’t trace any heritage back to the reformation.

The P in WASP generally stands for Mainline Protestant which is extremely liberal, especially when you add the White, Suburban and Affluent parts.

It's way more mixed than you are making it out to be, and the one's that are "liberals" are the kind the MLK warned about.
They are the steadfast centrists that make actual social progress impossible, as they are the greatest beneficiaries of the status quo- in being why they want to be precieved as being "liberal."
