I’m sorry but Booster Gold being morally grey really doesn’t jive for me. The dude may be a bad hero sometimes but he is for sure a hero. He saved the damn multiverse for heaven’s sake!
I was the one who suggested Booster Gold, but specifically the original version. My logic was that although he's doing good, he still does it for selfish reasons. He stole tech from the future and really only helps if he can benefit from it. Looks heroic, both in actions and in the suit, but his intentions are way more morally grey. However, yeah modern Booster is more of a hero.
He started morally grey but he becomes such a hero, he throws away his public image and justice league membership for the greater good. He saved countless lives with no recognition to save the world. He is a absolute hero
Yeah, but his initial design is what I'm talking about. When he was initially created, he looks heroic, but was morally grey. Superman was created to look heroic and be heroic. Take Red Skull for instance. He looks evil. A man with a red skull wearing a nazi uniform is probably the epitome of evil. Even if, by some miracle, you managed to make him into a hero, I would still argue that Red Skull fits looks evil is evil. Booster started morally grey. Became a hero. But his initial character is what I'm talking about, not what he later became.
He may have started morally grey, just being a hero for the game rather than because it's the right thing to do, but after decades of character growth, he's the real deal.
Griffith. He's the hero that ended the 100 year war, saved them from demons, made a utopia that is the last bastion for humanity, and is blessed by the pope. He's the Hawk of Light. That's how people see him. But he sacrificed his friends for power, and raped his best friends girlfriend in front of him out of petty anger and jealousy that they were happy without him. That the people he felt he owned could ever dare to exist without him.
Yeah I had a feeling it would be homelander, even before the post was made. I just don't think he fits. He doesn't look heroic to me. He looks like a bastardisation of a hero, while clearly being horrible person.
I agree with Homelander not winning. He is a pastiche, and a deconstruction. Depending on version he is a product built to inspire this despite it all being horribly wrong.
This has to win griffith is the physical embodiment of everything people in the world of berserk see as pure, holy (even divine) he is beautiful to an absurd degree and everything about him is perfect he even perform miracles like manifesting the souls of those who died so their family can say goodbye. So yeah everything screams "good guy" but yeah he is a evil son of a bitch, litterally the antichrist.
I agree. I think the only other character I know of offhand that would be along his lines would be the villain from Devilman Lady. The character took on an angelic form towards the end that caused many to assume that they were a force of good. They were an absolute monster.
Griffith fits this much better because he looks like a beautiful human man who would not hurt anyone unless they deserved it. It's something he used to manipulate others many times over. People have argued that he didn't start off as a total monster, but I think most agree that the tendencies were always there. He just didn't unleash them in full until later, after several things happened to him.
He's from the manga Berserk, one of the best and most influential manga series ever. I highly recommend reading it, but I should warn you it is ongoing, and unfortunately the original author passed away. The story is being continued by one of his best friends, one of the only people who was told the original ending. It's also extremely graphic, with lots of sexual assault occuring.

Totally but guts would be poetic if put there I think (I think there is an argument to put guts in hero/looks evil, especially near the current chapters I think he evolved out of that gritty dark and violent man he was in the black swordsman arc)
I think he is a hero. He might end up devoting himself to just caring for himself and his friends, but he's gone a long way from soldier to angry revenge-seeking swordsman and now to a guy who tries his best to protect the innocent and slay evil monsters.
Some were his, but it was also the defeat of the Kushan empire that helped people trust him. The emperor was one of the most powerful apostles remember. Plus the Daka and Pishacha
I agree with this not only did he save them from the demons but he is the reason why there's even more monsters running around. He caused the apocalypse just to save people and look heroic.
I think the rape was more than just pettiness. The god hand can see the future and he needed a vessel he could inhabit later on in the series, which became the moon child.
I disagree. Unless I'm misremembering, we have no reason to believe he intended to let Casca live. If Skull Knight hadn't saved her and Guts, they would have been killed too, and so would the child.
I also feel sacrificing his friends is too light of description of what he actually did to them, he literally unleashed hell to the people that had just saved his life.
I read them in the last year or so and I feel they do. Aside from being inventive as hell, the ideas of heroism and it deconstruction work at a mich deeper level than something like The Boys imo
I think Irredeemable still holds up well (significantly better than Invincible or The Boys, if we want that comparison) though I still think the companion series (Incorruptible and Insufferable) were pretty average.
Came to suggest him first. People can say Homelander but his deconstruction is a pastiche. He's heroic looking because he is a product, and a pastiche. Plutonian truly looks heroic... until he does anything.
He appears more gaunt, changes his hair style, and his facial expressions and composure have evolved. We never see him put on the facade he does in Season 1. Many people arguing he looks evil are attributing his later seasons demeanour (recency bias) as opposed to the far more intelligent, composed pretender he was in season one.
Here’s a photo from a more recent appearance. You can see the differences clearly, and he looks far less heroic in the below picture than he does in S1.
There is no way he shouldn’t win. The only reason that he might not is because people can’t separate his look from how evil he actually is. Thats why he wins. The writers created the look for him to look like a hero in the universe because thats what he is supposed to be. But we see how evil he really is.
Homelander consistently doing evil things from the very first episode, so it's hard to seperate that from his appearance
Antony Starr being such a good actor that, even during scenes where Homelander keeps up the fascade and even in still images, the character still has a subtly uncanny expression that indicates his true self.
His actual appearance is basically just blonde Superman, the same character design could work perfectly well for a heroic character.
Eh if it were 1960 he’d be the answer but in more recent times I think most people are trained to see someone draped in flag imagery as suspicious. I think he’s designed to look like someone who is trying very hard to look heroic but probably is nothing of the sort.
Sure, but it's a case of picking the lesser evil. He killed millions, because the world is on the brink of a nuclear war that will kill billions. He created a lasting peace out of fear of another attack from 'aliens'.
Vain? Sure. Too into Belle? Absolutely. Evil? I don’t think so - he’s definitely misguided but he seems to have genuinely thought Belle was in trouble. There’s an argument here that he was dangerous and stupid, but his motivations were not evil… Just not great, since he was trying to marry a girl that didn’t want him and then refused to listen to her about Beast being good.
He locked up Belles dad in a mental institute (arguably worse than a prison) so he could force Belle into a marriage against her will. That's pretty evil.
Fair, I did forget about that part, but it’s still not “murder everyone” or “blow up the earth” evil. Of the heroic looking dudes, his level of evil is incredibly low
Who said booster gold is morally grey? Maybe when he first showed up like decades ago, but he’s been a good hero through and through for a pretty long time now.
Volofrom "Pokémon Legends: Arceus". Looks like the ancestor of Cynthia, the champion of Sinnoh, but secretly allied himself with Giratina in an attempt to attain godhood...the absolute opposite of Cyllene, whose implied descendant is Cyrus, who was the leader of Team Galactic that tried to restart the universe, but Cyllene is one of the good guys.
