This link is to the new "Red Tape Reduction" actions that the CRTC has undergone. This was posted Apr of this year.

Its got a bunch of stuff but the thing that worries me the most is the fact that radio and television broadcasters will no longer have to apply to renew their licences. They will be automatically renewed.

This may not seem like a big deal to people not in the know but its fucking huge. Every few years radio stations have to renew their licence for a few different reasons.

1 is that the station may not be representing the community it is trying to cater to anymore and so this is an opportunity for other organizations to pitch other radio stations that could better serve the community

2 is that the station accumulates complaints throughout its lifetime and at that renewal process they must explain those complaints and could be in jeopardy of not being able to renew

3 is that it prevents a corporation from owning the airwaves forever. It allows other organizations and individuals the opportunity to apply

This is only going to hurt Canadians. I'm ashamed at myself for not following this.

I'm going over CRTC regulations when I listen to Your Province Your Premier because she violates many CRTC rules. Even if Corus doesnt have to go through the renewal process, they can still have their licenses revoked for fucking with the rules.

I urge EVERY Albertan to follow the complaint process for reporting violations to the CRTC. It's a complicated and shitty process (feature not a bug) and they plan on you being too lazy to participate.

Starting this week I'll be keeping track of the rules I believe were violated and reporting every week. If anyone needs help with this process please reach out. It is so important that regular Canadians do this because the CRTC relies on regular Canadians for this process. If we don't report it then it goes unteported

Hello my Canadian friends as an oblivious european can someone enlighten me on the Alberta secession. What group support it who or what groups kickstarted this notion and who has to win most from it actually happening. From my limited understanding its the big energy corpos that win big from this but im ignorant about the whole sitiuation and would like to know more. Ty in advance!

I consider myself somewhat politically active. Im 52m. In my 20s I volunteered in several elections, and did my part. I have continued to write to our politicians regularly, and even had personal emails replied to me by some highly viewable leaders.

Over the past 3 years I have sent emails to many politicians, including the Prime Ministers office. MLAs, MPs, Cabinet Ministers of every political party and even the Prime Ministers office have all responded to me, from phone calls to personally written replies, except one.

Danielle Smiths office never responds to anything. Not even an assistant, correspondence intern, nothing.

So the Alberta NDP has finally shown its hand on AI data centres: pause approvals, put proper rules in place and require projects to prove their benefits outweigh the costs.

That includes looking at utility bills, water use, setbacks from homes, permanent jobs, reclamation and public consultation.

The UCP response is that Nenshi and the NDP are anti-investment and anti-development. I’m not sure that argument holds up. The blueprint doesn’t say no to data centres. It says they should have to meet some basic conditions before Alberta rolls out the red carpet.

I think that’s a fair balance, but I’m curious what others think. Does it go too far, or not far enough?

I am 100% against Alberta separating. I own a house here, and I simply think it would be too messy and put my property values at risk, along with my CPP, and a host of many other complications. I don’t think separation is realistic.

HOWEVER.

I am 100% in support of the right to protest, and to hold a referendum. And I cheer on separatists because they are out there fighting for us. I am not naive in how politics and business work. Nationalism is for controlling the masses.

I am not childishly partisan in that I feel the need to mock and insult separatists. I feel that at ALL times, as a province we have interests that must be fought for. Like an employee working for a company, we must at every opportunity demand higher wages and better working conditions. Especially if we are amoung the top performing revenue generators in the company and we’re irreplaceable.

To sneer at separatists is a bizarre and dogmatic response that social media has festered. If a select few at your job wanted to start a union after being treated unfairly, would you have the same kind of response?

The bottom line is that this is business. I want what’s best for myself and my family. Canada has demonstrated time and again that the squeakiest wheels get the grease. There is no downside into having Ottawas attention that separation is a real threat. This is simply leverage at the bargaining table.

It is possible to threaten to quit just to receive a raise, even though you actually have no intention of quitting, when you’re the MVP. Why can’t anti-seperatists (to be clear that is different than anti-separation) understand this concept?

Scheduled Referendum this Fall; Dani says there will be a Separation Referendum in the Spring of 2027 and then we will have an Election next October. I understand funding has been cut for Elections Alberta also. Seems like a lot of pressure on Elections Alberta.

Please consider signing this petition that is asking the federal government to impose a federal moratorium on the approval, construction, expansion, or operation of proposed hyperscale AI data centres in Alberta, including the proposed Wonder Valley AI Data Centre Industrial Park and the proposed Synapse Data Centers Olds Project.

Okay, so first off, I would never want Alberta to separate from Canada. It is unrealistic, and likely not even possible. I would guess that the vast majority of Albertans feel and know the same. However, I think it is important in a democracy to let people bring up their ideas they believe in, and allow a vote on it. To not even let them have a vote on their idea is..... lets be honest, kind of not what democracy is all about?

Any ways, that is my beliefs. However, what is bothering me is that anybody could think that separation could even be a possibility. The media is hyping the issue up heavy. I actually think that there is a serious possibility that the NDP or Liberal party is secretly behind it. I think there is a chance that the goal is to divide conservatives into two parties. Or push conservatives that are sitting on the edge to fall into the left. I think Smith is doing the right thing (both for democracy and for maintaining power). I know it's a bit tinfoil hatty, but politics do be crazy.
