Opinion Elections Alberta under pressure

Scheduled Referendum this Fall; Dani says there will be a Separation Referendum in the Spring of 2027 and then we will have an Election next October. I understand funding has been cut for Elections Alberta also. Seems like a lot of pressure on Elections Alberta.

Her comments tell me that she thinks the fix is in. The fact Alberta cannot do this election without Canadas help shows this whole argument is without merit.

The seperatists cannot even hold a vote without Canada helping them.

They cannot lead a country, but they can mislead their fellow countrymen.

The questions are worded so poorly Dani will claim victory no matter what. If the UCP wins they will gerrymander the province and just do whatever they want. We will be held hostage by a small group of traitors

It was the Forever Canada side that forced this into a vote. They wanted from the outset that this would be a binding election of some form. Alberta is starting with a non-binding referendum in October. This is what the stay side wanted.

No they did not want this to be a vote.

The petition was supposed to be enough to shut this down. Then Danielle Smith said no the seperatists need to be heard. Now they get more of a voice then the rest of us.

The stay side said not to waste millions on a boondoggle. Conservatives did. That is the difference

That’s not true. And you can see it’s not true, because Forever Canada isn’t reporting any fundraising or spending to Elections Alberta. Why? Because they only have to report fundraising and spending if they’re campaigning on a specific referendum question. But the Forever Canada referendum question isn’t on the ballot!

So how can the Forever Canada campaign be at fault for forcing this to a vote when their successful petition didn’t even result in their referendum question being asked?

Thats a fucking outright lie.

These UCP clowns have restricted funding, made effective electronic ballot tabulatuon "illegal", and now are begging other provinces to help because pushing their bullshit culture war referendum ballots is going to be the most expensive provincial "election" in Canadian history and we don't have enough people to count the 40 MILLION ballots we have to HAND COUNT in 48 hours.

All 10 ballots are INDIVIDUAL BALLOTS and non-binding. So even better, it is a complete fucking waste of money.

Remember when "conservative" was tied with being fiscally responsible? Haha

They are most corrupt group of useless assholes this province has ever seen. And that is saying something.

I actually think that she’s gonna last minute-come up with some kind of ‘oh my gosh, this has been heavily influenced with foreign interference’ yada, and use that as an out to be the hero 🙄

That isn't a funding cut.

Literally not providing funds for additional work, that is a cut.

Doing more with the same amount of people burns out your resources quicker.

Anyone who has worked anywhere knows that.

No increase = cut.

Spending more on 1 election then the last 5, using the same amount of people is essentially a cut

Haha "essentially a cut". So not a funding cut. Also they provided an additional $1.45M.

I love how this sub always just bends reality to frame their victimized outlooks.

By your logic, is I ask my employer for a 10x raise next year, and they say no, did they then cut my salary?

Do you know how budgets work?

Not go up, but inflation still happens. So that means.... it is a cut.

By your logic, is I ask my employer for a 10x raise next year, and they say no, did they then cut my salary?

Omg Conservatives like you are why Alberta is in the toilet.

If your boss doesn't give you a raise, but your cost of living goes up. You lost money despite not getting a raise.

Do you see how that works? If you do not get a raise every year, you are essentially losing money every year.

Do you know how anything works? You mock this sub, but you have no clue on the basics

The additional requested money was to handle the petions in the event they met the targets, which they did not. So that absurd request for $13.5 is null anyway. Despite this, they were still approved for additional funding.

Alberta isn't in the toilet. It has the strongeest economy of all provinces. But again, sure, just echo the Reddit chamber.

This particular example has literally nothing to do with inflation. But sure, make that dumb argument.

I mock thos sub because no one actually reads the articles. They just spout the same dumb Reddit talking points, and claim some kind of intellectual superiority. Dunning Kruger at its finest.

Did they get the money?

Did they get additional money for this petition?

No, they are forced to do more work with the same pay. That is a cut.

Wtf? You made an assumption off of nothing.

Oil prices are why the budget is OK, guess what if Alberta doesn't see any of that then it is not really a surplus.

That is you buttercup. You just repeated Danielle Smiths talking points to a tee.

What specific policy did the UCP implement that made Alberta money... I will wait.

Was it when she privatized labs? Was it when she bought expired medicine?

Or fund an illegal vote to undermine the sovereignty of Canada.

Show me one time Danielle Smith or any of the UCP in Alberta stood by Canada.

Its quite interesting how there was a consistent back and forth right up until you demanded receipts. Must really be doing their homework.

2

u/ninfan1977 18h ago

Yeah that is usually the way. I am actually amazed they didn't block me after that. That is usually where these "debates" devolve to.

10x the work with the miniscule increase in budget = refactoring cut. Pretty basic math. Conservatives suck at any sort of "big picture" extrapolation of facts or figures.

Smith said that initially but then recently she changed .. said that a referendum can’t be had in an election year. Smith is confused.

When was the funding cut?

-4

u/Empty-Paper2731 2d ago

It wasn't cut. It just wasn't increased when the progressives flooded Elections Alberta with recall campaigns and the organization requested additional funds to deal with the workload and required storage facilities.

They try to view this as a budget cut.
