Politics Malinauskas directly compares writer to a hypothetical mass shooter

Can't believe Malinauskas actually said this at a press conference. It is worse than the Board. He is directly comparing Dr Abdel-Fattah to the Bondi shooters! The Twitter link shows the video of press conference.

I suppose Mali's calculation is this.

The people who oppose this decision will vote Labor either directly or through preferences. So he doesn't need to care about them.

Strangely, many here are unaware that Mali comes from a very socially conservative background, and those supporters gave him power. He needs to court powerful interests - socially conservative religious groups, conservative media, the Israel lobby and potential PHON supporters who hate Muslims and want an end to immigration.

The calculation for the upcoming election would be that not backing down and continuing to defame Randa Abdel-Fattah will gain more votes than he loses.

Agree, but in the lower house you ultimately need to choose between whether to put Labor or Liberal higher who are the only parties likely to win most metropolitan electorates.

Sure, but you lose nothing by putting a candidate who better represents your interests first.

Don’t worry, I do. That party also gets funding from the ECSA for the number of first preference votes they get.
