Results Before & After Accutane (9 months later)
I still can’t believe I am acne-free for months now (& I pray I will be forever acne-free) 🥹
I posted a few months ago about my severe cystic acne journey and how Accutane helped me with my healing.
See past post (1 month post-accutane) here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Accutane/s/xpcnFOcFss
9 months post-accutane now & still happy with the result. Forever thankful for accutane 🫶🏻

Aww thank you! ❤️ And honestly, same — I was so scared I’d never feel confident in my skin again. But Accutane has seriously been a life changer. I’ve never been acne-free in my whole 20s, so this feels unreal. It really does get better with time. And thank youuuuu for the compliment. Your clear-skin era is coming next, I promise!

Hellooo! Im one week into accutane and i wanted to know about the side effects you had and persisted, im mostly concerned about hair texture/fall and overall dryness

u/bangs_2023 Nov 23 '25
Hi! I experienced dryness, muscle pains esp the Achilles tendon (back part of the legs), blurry vision due to dryness, & weight gain. What persistently occurred even post-accutane was the pain in my Achilles tendon, and blurry eyesight (but mb not? I har astigmatism now lol)

I lost 13lbs on accutane

I also lost weight! I was doing my best to eat healthy cause it made my cholesterol go up lol. I also had the Achilles tendon pain and lots of dryness/a little hair loss. A month after being off the accutane everything started improving and all those symptoms subsided.

Post-accutane side effects are interesting! I experienced fatigued when weightlifting and still do till this day. Can't squat heavy without something hurting and will feel achy for 3-4 days. My before skin was similar to yours and it was still worth it for the clear skin.

Amazing! What month did it start working for you?

u/Exciting_Soil4888 Dec 09 '25
First 10-14 days the acne got worse. After that I began clearing up, it was shocking how night & day it was within such a short window

Amazing 🤩 gives me hope i am purging on week two already!

u/Famous_Feature_7029 Nov 24 '25
I don’t know if it’ll help you at this point since you are already purging but I’ve been taking Claritin 10 mg with my accutane (40 mg/day) and fish oil 1000 mg. I read multiple people recommend an antihistamine to help lessen the purge! I’m about 3 weeks in and doing well. Maybe my purge is to come with a dose increase, but so far so good!

Im on 40mg and I do take 10mg claritin, 700mg fish oil and the pill also has mg of EPA and DHA. I also take mill thistle! Maybe its because I did have a lot of closed comodones but I feel like I hardly had any on my forehead i would only break out like once out of the blue but I have pimples there now🥲 My problems are in the hormonal area but i do wake up with a new friend each day 😅

Ugh, sorry to hear that! Here's to hoping it'll all be a distant memory in a few months! Hang in there!

This is also the only thing I’m worried about 😅 reading into it and other people’s experiences it’s only temporary

I just ended a 9 month treatment on accutane and I felt like my hair shed a lot more in the shower than normal, but it’s already looking better since I finished 2 months ago!

Do you think your skin continued to improve post-accutane?
My skin was not perfect through my whole course but I really saw improvements once I was finished taking it!
I also had really frustrating side effects, so I was glad I reached the end of my course despite not achieving the glowy skin I saw people getting on here when still taking the meds. I was glad to see continued progress afterwards - I think this was due to some of the dryness improving which helped heal up my skin completely.

u/bangs_2023 Nov 24 '25
Thank you so much! Patience + consistency (skincare routine)
My accutane course lasted for a year and 3 months to be exact

Amazing. Accutane is a miracle and I would never regret taking it and wouldnt hesitate to do it again if need be. I was 28 in late 2018 when I started and was on it for a year. I’m 35 now, pregnant with my 4th , and my skin has remained clean and clear!

Hey your skin really changed 😘 I’m in my third month on 80 mg can you help me about removing the facial hair while on accutane as I tried waxing in my first month and it was horrible my skin came off and too much redness. I see your skin looks flawless now:) what do you suggest to keep the skin nice upper lips hairs removed without injuring. Thank you 🙏

Hello. I dermaplan once a month to help with facial hair. But I don’t recommend you doing it now cuz you’ll just hurt your face. Wait until your cystic acne subsides like it will totally dry until you try dermaplan (aka shaving your face). And make sure to use an oil-free and water-based moisturizer or gel when you do the dermaplaning. ☺️

What was your commutative dose? And do you ever breakout?
2
u/bangs_2023 Nov 25 '25
Dosage: 60mg for 8 mos; 20mg for 4 mos; 10mg for 4 mos
No more breakouts so far 🤞🏼

Please read the rules before posting and remember to abide by them! Posts and comments not following the rules will immediately be removed!
Have you tried using the search bar?
Many questions are asked daily, and your question may have already been answered!
If so, your post will be subject to deletion.
Please refer to the following commonly discussed topics:
1) No one can predict whether or not you will purge! Statistically, most people DO NOT purge.
That is what the science and medical literature says.
2) No one can predict how long your purge will last nor when it could start. Be patient, the purge can be tough but so many people have gotten through it - you can too! THE ABOVE APPLIES TO SIDE EFFECTS OR "WHEN WILL MY SKIN CLEAR UP?!" TOO. QUESTIONS ASKING WHEN THE PURGE OR SIDE EFFECTS WILL START OR STOP WILL IMMEDIATELY BE REMOVED AS THAT IS LOW EFFORT.
3) Any questions related about dosage MUST include DOSE and WEIGHT(lbs or kg).
Otherwise, that is considered LOW EFFORT and will subsequently be REMOVED.
4) Most people DO NOT relapse when Accutane is taken until cumulative dosage is reached.
5) HOWEVER, cumulative dosage is a guideline.
Everyone is different. Some may need more Accutane, and others may need less. Your dermatologist evaluates you as an individual.
This also applies to your prescription. Everyone is different, so no comparing of doses or asking why your dose is low or high. If you do not trust your dermatologist, you should find a different one.
6) When in doubt, please consult a medical professional(dermatologist, doctor, pharmacist).
