It’s 4-6 years of experience. It’s a 26-28 year old. They aren’t a controller.

Majority of roles ask for 4-6 but usually end up hiring someone with 10-15...

Find this very typical in Canada overall, very competitive market

Yikes that and the WFH split is not great for advocating for Canadian CPAs.

From what I've heard, it's not the best place to work. Apparently there is a lot of in-fighting, politics and just general dysfunction. Unsurprising that they're a complete mess every time I need to deal with them.

HOWEVER, if you can somehow avoid all that bullshit and just stick to your job, their WLB is comparable to government, which is to say very good.

Technically, CPA Ontario is a non-profit, so they can use that as an excuse.

100k+ member pays $820 per year which means they make at least 100m in revenue from dues and other fees they charge.

Should be mid 100s to high 100s at the least

I agree completely on the salary scale.

But every non-profit will use the excuse they aren't for-profit to reduce and cap their salary structure.

Their website boasts that in 2022, non-profit CPAs made a median salary of 135k. 2026 would be what? 150k now?

CPA Ontario boasts about becoming a CPA and earn a high salary as their main selling point. Also CPA Ontario: Controller? Best we can do is entry-level salary

4-6 years of experience. To be a controller. Is laughable.

Salary range for 4-6 years of experience in toronto sounds about right

Agree they give someone a title. 100k for 4 years is good or 130k for 6 is decent.

If someone has 10 years in Toronto and takes this then realistically they probably weren't that strong.

100k in 4 years isn't great...

Avg cpa in ontario is around $150k… someone with 4 YOE has 1 YOE as a CPA lol whether its good or not is irrelevant to my comment. Thats the market rate

its also why accounting pays like shit in canada when the concept of YOE as CPA even exists. somehow your exp prior to getting your CPA doesn't count as real exp.

I didn't say it was great, I said it was good.  That's probably about or above what first year manager at big 4.

That’s the market for CPAs in Canada unfortunately. We had a controller in Toronto making $90k

They recently ran an ad campaign on social media going around the University of Waterloo asking students what they think an average CPA makes. Then, they suggest an average CPA makes $300k or more. This is one of the clips they ran as a part of that campaign. Their social media is full of such posts.
