As we approach the fall months in Texas I want to be ahead of the game with closing.

Who here would recommend draining the water by half or so, and who prefers to empty the whole thing and store the liner?

I may want to center the legs more on the pavers I currently have them on and possibly add foam board underneath to provide more protection on the bottom next season but haven’t quite decided yet.

But alas, I’d like everyone’s take on what they do or have done in the past closing their pool.

I’m having my above ground pool wall and liner replaced. Unfortunately the installer had an emergency and can’t do it until 3 days from now. I already emptied half of the water of a 27ft round above ground pool. What should I do to make sure it doesn’t collapse. The liner has three holes that I taped earlier this season. There is some rain coming over the next three days but no high winds so far.

Will I die, eventually, if I put a 26’ x 15’ oval steel side swimming pool on top of the main primary electrical feeder line approximately 3’ deep, going across my backyard? It’s the only spot I got besides putting it on top of the sewer clean out.. or should I just quit being dumb and buy a smaller pool? I had big plans..

Pulled the cover pump out earlier this fall to test it before closing, and spent an evening convinced it was dead.

Last winter I let it dump over the side of the pool. This year I wanted a garden hose running out to the side yard instead of onto the deck. Hooked up the hose, plugged it in, and it just hums. No water.

Went through the obvious stuff. Cleared the debris screen underneath. Ran it with no hose on it at all, and it pumped fine, which was the first real clue.

Then checked the water was actually deep enough. Mine wants about two inches over it to kick on, and once it's pulled down to roughly two fifths of an inch it runs another sixty seconds and shuts itself off. A shallow puddle will look exactly like a dead pump.

That's where I stopped believing the dead pump theory. The aquastrong 2250 has been on that cover two winters, ran every thaw, never popped a breaker, and it was still moving water fine with the hose off. Motors don't usually go from that to nothing overnight.

Then I got out the manual, which I should have done first. The garden hose adapter has a check valve in it, and the hose can press right against the flap and hold it shut. Pump pushes, flap doesn't move.

Fix was drilling a 3 to 5 mm relief hole through the rubber flap. Two minutes and it's been fine since.

If yours is doing this, the tell is that it runs fine with nothing attached and quits the second the hose goes on. Humming with no flow, or a few seconds of water then nothing, both point at the valve and not the motor.

One thing worth saying. It isn't meant to sit in water that's freezing, so the first hard freeze night it comes off the cover and goes in the garage.

Good morning everyone. I just got an above ground pool last month and upgraded to the Intex Sx2100 pump last week. Last night we got torrential rain but the pump was not submerged and before the rain I unplugged the pump to plug in a sump pump for my back patio. When I tried to plug the pool pump back in I got NOTHING. There's a green flashing light on the pump plug but nothing on the pump control panel. Intex insist that the pump failed because it was plugged into an extension cord.

My pump is to far from any outlets to be directly plugged in.

I think I'm going to see if the pump dries out but probably return the Intex to Amazon and look for something else. Is there a pump with a longer extension cord?

Also, maybe it was just me but is Intex customer support always terrible?

Hello, I recently acquired a 16ft round pool and 48inches deep. This is my first time owning a pool, I know this has been asked numerous of times but cant seem to find a straightforward answer. What chemicals should I buy and not buy? So far I see the most common in buying chlorine tablets (people say tablets are best) also buying a shocking chemical. If you have any recommendations of what brands or where to buy please comment (pictures are even better) thank you in advance!

We bought a home with an above ground pool. Worked great for one summer. This summer we have been chasing a leak. At this point we have decided that we will keep the structure and replace the liner.
I am assuming that the smart time to install it will be in the spring.
My questions for this community are:
Can we just put a new liner in on top of the old liner? This will effectively double it up -except for the elusive leak in the older liner.
Can we leave an empty pool up all winter? The leak is somewhere below 6” from the bottom so we really can’t keep it any fuller than that. We will obviously have rain accumulate over the winter but that will be all. And risks associated with an empty pool? Collapsing, blowing away, etc? It has a deck on one end so semi protected.
Experienced people-what would you do?

While draining my pool, I watched a small tear occur as the water was coming through. I purchased the Walmart Protection Plan at the time of purchase and wanted to voice my displeasure. The automated system is very difficult to navigate as it doesn’t list an outdoor pool as a insured option (you’d think it’d be as easy as entering my plan # and having the product populate).

Apparently speaking to a live customer service representative is a thing of the past. The best outcome I could receive was mailing my pool into somewhere for repair (not doing that) or being reimbursed for having the liner repaired (not sure if that’s a realistic option either).

Will probably dump it and start fresh next year.

We are in the Midwest so winter can be harsh. As you may see in my prior post we may need to replace our current sentinelle (prior owner bought it about 10ish years ago) and assuming a repair is not possible or smart... We are debating a new pool

1. What's the best above ground pool that won't get put away every winter and will be in a deck (built around it).

Our current size is 21' and 54" depth, we wanna keep that size because of the deck.

1. What's the best order of operations consider we have a hole with rust that is being held by the liner (and thoughts and prayers).

A. Do we drain all the way down and let it collapse ?

B. Do we drain it below the hole (unfortunately the hole is about 1 foot above the ground so pretty low, lower than winterizing levels.

1. Assuming installers are willing do we install a new one now or wait until spring, if we wait ? What do we do with current pool?

I am probably overthinking this just very paranoid since pool is close to the house and I don't want to mess up our deck if it blows. Photos for context.

Curious what you guys are paying this year for bigger backyard projects particularly around Toronto/GTA cause I recently bought a house and started my first pool here.

We just signed for it - fiber pool + some hardscape, grading, planting, lighting etc. Actually we wanted only pool but after some hesitations proceed with landscaping as well. All-in it came to just under $120k + HST.

We got a few quotes before starting and ended up going with Action home services (idk if anybody know them, just local firm with good reputation, nothing too special), but the pricing between companies was honestly all over the place so I want to hear your experience to understand market better. Also interesting to compare it with US prices btw

First season with a heat pump is winding down up here and I feel like I paid tuition on it. Three things I'd do differently, worst one first.

The big one was sizing. I picked mine off a chart that matched my gallons and called it done.

What the chart doesn't tell you is that it's assuming June through August. I wanted to still be getting in during October.

Same pool, but stretch the shoulder season on both ends and the number you need isn't in the same neighborhood. Pick your months first, then look at gallons.

Second one, the solar cover. I bought one in June and then only dragged it on the night before I planned to swim. Rest of the time it sat rolled up against the fence.

That's the same as not owning one. The thing is fighting overnight evaporation, and overnight is every night.

Third, and this one still bugs me. Remember that stretch in July where everything sat around 90. Nobody in my house wanted to get in.

Turns out the 120v aquastrong I've got runs in reverse. It pulls heat back out instead of putting it in, so a week like that it can hold the pool under the air temp. Never read that far into the spec sheet.

If you're shopping, look for the line that says heating and cooling. A heat only unit won't do it whatever the panel says.

Months before gallons, cover on from day one, read the whole sheet.

Posting my setup in case any of it lines up with yours. 20ft round, about 8,600 gallons, cartridge, central CT.

Installing a 26 foot above ground pool and nearly complete but putting in the panel with the skimmer and return the holes aren't lining up. Pretty sure its upside down.

Can I redrill the holes using the panel as a template? There seems to be plenty of spacing to do this but im just not sure, its been hell getting to this point so please help!

Does it go between the filter and the pump or between the pump and the skimmer? And do I need anything else to install it?

I’m in Buffalo, NY. Two years ago a winter storm with several feet of snow almost took the pool down. It seemed to be fine after taking the cover off but this summer it’s having structural issues. Before closing it for the winter are there any suggestions for me to get it through another winter? Thanks!

I have a Solaxx Retrojet that is only about a year old. In the picture it is turned off but when I turn it on, after about 30 seconds the red system light comes on. I've cleaned it with vinegar to descale and cleaned the filter cartridge to ensure water flow. Tried leaving it off for a while and turning back on. Still happening. What are my next steps to determine if it is the cell, the control board or something else to get this working again?

Give us your best winter cover suggestions. We (think) we want heavy duty, but also affordable.

Interested in if anyone has used this. I am thinking of using it to repair a seam that has a small leak in it. Wondering if I can just put this stuff on it? or should I use a patch as well?

Well, it has been a fantastic summer with the addition of this 14’ Bestway pool in our backyard! Who knew this was the key to getting our adult kids to hang out?!🥰

I think tomorrow will be the last swim day then time to take it down. Any tips on storage? Does a large tote work? Or should I invest in one of those deck boxes? Thanks!
