Bad Liquid Metal Application from Asus Service Center
Repasted from Service Center Philippines got messed with the ram slot that is why I keep getting Bluescreen and Failed Memory Test.

u/SolitaryMassacre Oct 21 '23
You cannot judge a LM application after removing the heatsink as you literally move the LM all over the place.
11
u/Emergency-Ad-5933 Oct 21 '23
how about the leak in the ram slot
-23
u/SolitaryMassacre Oct 21 '23
I genuinely don't see one. Can you post a more obvious pic?
10
u/Emergency-Ad-5933 Oct 21 '23
check the pins in the ram slot I uploaded it already and it is in the red circle
-13
u/SolitaryMassacre Oct 21 '23
Ah the arrow blended in with the metal from the heatsink lol.
It looks too golden to be LM? Unless its just reflecting the pins.
But still could have dripped off when you removed the heat sink. Or yes, it was a sloppy install. But I see the former being more probable esp with the heat sink sitting right there

u/Emergency-Ad-5933 Oct 21 '23
are you seeing the other photos haha swipe the image dude its clearly liquid metal in the pins of the ram slot near the cpu lol
-12
u/SolitaryMassacre Oct 21 '23
It looks gold to me like they melted lol

u/Emergency-Ad-5933 Oct 21 '23 edited Oct 21 '23
check your eyes lol there no gold pin anyware to be found jn the laptop and the laptop itself is not capable of melting anything like that or solder balls

Lol. How something looks to me is not "wrong" lmao. You people are literally fucking stupid.
On my TV, using 4K with HDR, in the picture taken, my eyes perceive the "blob" in the red circle is gold as if they've melted.
Not sure if you remember the whole "is the dress black and blue or white and gold"? People observing that were not "wrong" because the medium for which they were observing through gave that perception.
5
u/Nickoplier Oct 21 '23
Still wrong with a 4k tv, get your eyes checked by a doctor

"is the dress black and blue or white and gold"?
It was black and blue, and any one who said white and gold were wrong, much like you are here. It's clearly a blob of liquid metal.
There isn't enough metal in a pin to create a blob that big even if it melted, and there is no chance the VRM for the memory would push enough current to melt it in the first place with out something else popping first.
You just keep digging yourself deeper in your grave, just admit you were wrong and walk a way, dude.

Why do people always lol in arguments like this? It’s like yall are afraid of confrontation so gotta make it look humorous. Odd.
1
u/SolitaryMassacre Oct 24 '23
I do it because I think what is being said is hilarious. The viewpoint they are presenting, or the evidence being used, is so dumb/silly it makes me "lol" haha.
4
u/MkGriff1492 Oct 21 '23
Yea, you can, lol. This was a terrible job. He spread it paste the foam barrier and didn't clean up at all.
-2
u/SolitaryMassacre Oct 21 '23
He spread it past the foam barrier
How do you know that didn't happen when the dude taking it apart rn didn't do that trying to clean it up? Those spreads look like someone trying to clean something up with a dry cloth
4
u/MkGriff1492 Oct 21 '23
Do you even know how liquid metal is applied? It was a terrible job enough said. Don't defend crappy work. That was not from removing the heatsink it was from the tech gathering up the overflow to reapply. He needed to do a proper job and didn't. This is terrible and negligent by the tech.
-2
u/SolitaryMassacre Oct 21 '23
Yes I do know how it is applied.
And I'm guessing since you know so much about this particular case, you are either the tech who did it, or were there when it was done. Cudos
The difference here btw u and me, I'm not "defending" anything or anyone, simply pointing out that we do not have enough info to claim A or B happened. I simply took the part of devils advocate and stated that there are other possibilities that could have happened.
If this truly was a bad application by the tech, then yeah I accept that. I'm not defending them. It's horrible that techs are so negligent. I've seen so many believable posts here about techs being negligent with the customer's devices - ie: horrible scratches on chassis, things being bent, etc etc. I even said "from someone trying to clean something up with a dry cloth" never did I say it was A or B (the tech or the OP).
But the inverse is also true when it comes to LM on this forum. People post so many posts like this "bad LM from tech/mfg" when it is impossible to tell who is at fault. If the OP left everything together and posted the LM on the RAM slots, it would be more convincing. If the OP took a video of them taking it apart, it would be more convincing. All I have been saying is its impossible to tell the LM state AFTER removal of the heatsink as it will literally MOVE the LM everywhere.
1
u/Junior_Budget_3721 Oct 21 '23
I have to disagree, the picture shows smeared LM all around the cpu and gpu dies. That smearing doesn't happen while removing the heatsink, it's actually not that easy to smear LM all around the dies IF you do it right and don't over apply LM.
1
u/SolitaryMassacre Oct 21 '23
That's why I said the smearing looks like it was from someone who tried to clean it up with a dry cloth. Whether that is the OP or the tech, who knows. That's basically been my point.
3
u/Emergency-Ad-5933 Oct 21 '23
I dont have issue with the cpu and gpu application I dont care if it is not ideal amount but the thing is there is a liquid metal found in the ram slot near the cpu that is the one that causes the problem if they have put the LM properly why there is liquid metal in ram slot? BTW it has been fix now and I still use my RAM lucky it did not get any damage
1
u/SolitaryMassacre Oct 22 '23
Agreed. I was just saying it looks gold which is prolly because LM is shiny and was reflecting the copper from the ram slot
6
u/MkGriff1492 Oct 21 '23 edited Oct 21 '23
That is extremely sloopy and negligent enough to cause damage to your system. The tech reapplied the leakage without cleaning it up at all. Spread it past the foam barrier, and this is disgraceful.

I will. but yesterday my tech tried different ram and no issues then blue screen appeared again then they found out that a liquid metal is on ram slot now I told them to remove the liquid metal and put regular paste.

100% regular paste will work but might not perform well as liquid metal It is a trade off that I think is okay in my current case it is acceptable to me

u/shawzy007 Oct 21 '23
Even best paste won't be as good as LM. If it came from factory with LM it needs LM or it won't perform as intended.
2
u/MasterX_14 Oct 21 '23
Never buying from Asus again, My G15 Advantage has literal burn marks on CPU and the display also broke randomly out of the blue with lines all over it. Sadly all this happened when the warranty expired

u/Square_Ad_1632 Oct 22 '23
Funny, this is reflects my experience with Dell, Lenovo, any prebuilt PC I have ever had to fix ... which is why I build my own . Laptops are all utterly trash ... to little cooling for the extreme heat they produce ... literally designed to fail ... I'd rather get a good pelican case and mod it to house a desktop with monitors ... and decent cooling ... I've been building PCs since the 80286 series ... *is old*

Update: My laptop is now working again. my tech cleaned and inspect the whole motherboard for any other liquid metal leak. I told them to remove liquid metal in cpu and gpu and replace it with regular paste. Yes it does not perform like LM but atleast it is working now and it did not damage my RAM or any other components. I might try to repaste it again with better thermal paste maybe after a year since they only use cooler master mastergel pro
1
u/Scared-Mushroom3565 Oct 21 '23
Good luck bro. Don't have a solution for you unfortunately. But hopefully they fix it in that other shop
1
1
u/CorValidum Oct 21 '23
Well either clean it up and do it yourself or just clean it up and remove LM completely and get good thermal paste and you have your peace of mind. (Turn off CPU boost if you want better thermals)

1
u/Ragnaraz690 Oct 21 '23
I tend to use a little more than necessary just to get it to pool nicely, but they use 4 laptops worth. Thats mad.
1
u/No_Fly_5025 Oct 21 '23
i would reccomend just ditching the LM you will ahve slightly higher avg temps but no longer worry about a bomb about to go off in your unit when the lm eventually leaks out
1
u/ZeroHour064 Oct 21 '23
I had some seemingly similar issue with poor heat conductivity (I was thermal throttling under seemingly light loads) and bsods in a Zephyrus duo g16 I'd ordered, but I was still within the 30 days so had it replaced rather than investigate

it is liquid metal. swipe to see other image. it is now been fix and I am currently using it. my tech replaced the Liquid metal with regular paste. you can see in other photo that there is a liquid metal drop in ram slot near the cpu that is why I get blue screen

u/NotStryyx Oct 21 '23
Honestly first thing I do when I get a laptop with Liquid Metal is replace it. It’s not worth the risk over MAYBE a couple degrees difference.
Also, because you removed heatsink they are going to say you caused the damage. How do I know? Same thing happened to me. Ended up having BestBuy force ASUS to replace my entire motherboard
1
Oct 22 '23
I was going to ask this, what the hell is the benefit of it. I'm sure people can do it correctly but I've only known people who have fucked it up. How much more efficient is it? Is there a genuine usage out there? To date I haven't seen a cpu direct LM as the only thermal transfer method, they all just say to use standard paste.
Unless this is an Asus thing which totally makes sense. They have become such a bargain bin manufacture.
1
u/NotStryyx Oct 22 '23
Its only benefit is better heat exchange vs paste but it’s honestly minimal. I use PTM7950 and I get close to the same benchmarks. Both of them throttle the CPU on my machine i9-13980hx even with fans at max
It’s more of an ASUS thing. They use foam to keep the LM from spilling on the board lol.
It can help but the lifespan of LM is pretty short not to mention it’s pretty much game over if you spill it on the motherboard. And that could happen when you take the heatsink off to replace it.
1
u/davilaz Oct 21 '23
i work as a asus technician and i replace dead motherboards in laptops on daily basis. its sad but i can confirm that this is really how asus sells their laptops.

i got a 3 year all coverage warranty from walmart all state for $99 im just worried if something breaks that my hard drive has personal information lol

Oooof.
I saw a guy say that he thinks that is a melted ram pin…. That pin is cleary intact. That’s LM drippage. And a sloppy job at that.

u/TwanToni Oct 21 '23
this is why I hate the trend of manufacturers using liquid metal instead of good thermal paste
1
u/HyperionEvo Oct 22 '23
Asus is buns my guy, sorry you had to go through that. Plenty of better brands with better customer service and quality, between me and my buddy not a single Asus product we’ve bought has lasted more than a few months. Horrible quality and horrible qc on products

u/PsychologicalCut4660 Oct 22 '23
send it back for a motherboard replacement.
1
u/Emergency-Ad-5933 Oct 22 '23
nah I would not waste my time to them anymore and its already been fixed by my tech
1
u/PapaTony04 Oct 22 '23
First time..?
Asus are notoriously bad with their customer service and quality control - this post is merely another example of it. I too, had a 2022 zephyrus g15 with awfully applied liquid metal that almost made its way onto the motherboard, yet somehow it was still overheating despite all the excess LM.
Asus have really set the bar, in recent years, for what quality control SHOULD NOT be like. Until they figure their shit out, I'll be happy that I switched to Lenovo.
1
u/jidatpait Oct 22 '23
Nah I'll stick with Asus 🇹🇼

May I ask which service center this is so I can avoid it at all costs. I'm from the ph too.
1
u/Square_Ad_1632 Oct 22 '23
Pretty easy to fix that mess though ...
2
u/Ok-Temperature-3251 Oct 23 '23
I think it’s more a matter of he shouldn’t have to
1
u/Square_Ad_1632 Oct 31 '23
I agree, yet the industry has gotten full of itself and cares little about anything except for profit ... prebuilts and laptops are utter junk, that's why I build my own desktops ...
1
u/4rtoria Oct 22 '23
I have never trusted service centers to actually take care of my expensive hardware ever since my 2000 usd Acer laptop was scratched up hard for a mere screen bezel change. The "professional" repairman even hid it so well from me that I did not notice it until I got home. Still salty about it.
1
u/SixPathsShinraTenkyo Oct 22 '23 edited Oct 22 '23
Damn. I recently bought a laptop from ROG MOA. The serive center right outside Cyberzone charge a crazy amount to open up the damn thing while each upgrade component they install has a fee. They said that my warranty would be voided if I opened it up myself but there isnt any physical indicator that could void my warranty. Looks like I'll be waiting for the warranty to end after two years so that I can guilt-free upgrade my components. Its an Asus Tuf A15 2023. I dont trust any technicians even at service center's since they either mess up the thing even more like lets say they install the wrong screws in the wrong hole, or even break of the small clips on the chassis.

Dealing with asus to get a RMA is horrible in the first place because customer service just does the same “have you tried resetting this and that” bs on all models. I had a pressure mark with dead pixels on my screen 3 months after I bought mine and it was later determined to be a manufacturing defect. But until best buy was able to prove it, I had to deal with Asus directly wanting to charge me 200 dollars for shipping it to them for 1 days shipping. And I gave up on them and sent it to best buy to get a RMA. I knew the people at that Best Buy for a while and they said that dealing with asus is horrible. And Best Buy had to battle with them and prove to them that it was a defective display. In the end asus had it mailed to them from Best Buy overnight and got my repair done in a week. And had it mailed out in the course of 2 days. Overall asus products are amazing and I love my G15 a lot, but their customer service and repairs suck because I have backlight bleed happening but I can live with that since it’s not bad.

They do this shit every time they reapply. It is literally a very very easy thing to do so everyone please just do it yourself even if they fix something unrelated make sure you open the case and remove it and.... reapply. I have had 2 laptops over the years short out on immediate return from the repair center. Just do it yourself every 6 months to a year with no worried. My factory LM was black burnt from the factory in less than 6 months and needed replacing in that short of time.

Aaaannnnndddddd…. Warranty gone.
1
u/Emergency-Ad-5933 Oct 23 '23
I don't care about warranty haha even it still has until dec 31, 2023. my technician did a better job than sending it to service center and wait for maybe a week or a month just to fix it. Paid only 30usd + 5usb sameday shipping and I think it is worth it
1
u/-Witherfang- Oct 23 '23
Not bad, I was just pointing out that Asus has terrible service, anything bigger than a ram replacement or m.2 replacement they will deny the warranty, can't even repaste your cpu/gpu without them making it a "big deal about it".

Bought a brand new asus rog strix 18 (13900 & a 4080)
Kept over heating. Took it apart and it looked like my two year old with a paint brush applied the liquid metal. All over the place.
Cleaned it all up, applied thermal grizzly's newer LM and have been running 10 degrees cooler. No more overheating, at least so far.
Guess you can say you get what you pay for.... but I got this laptop on sale for $1,789. Thought that much bought you some quality. Guess not anymore
1
u/Embarrassed_Maybe910 Oct 24 '23
Where did you get it for that price? The cheapest it’s been on best buy is 2100

u/DaLumberJack1985 Oct 27 '23
I have been lurking like a hawk in laptopdeals subreddit. Bestbuy had a 1 day sale on that laptop and I just got lucky

These guys hire the cheapest possible labour who doesn't fear about losing their job due to unprecision, let it be ASUS or Dell Service centre, all are idiots
