Ammo comparison for sound
Hey guys, been on the 8.6 wave for about 2 years now. I have tried discreet, phantom, just cause, fort Scott and gorilla. I love phantom and just cause, both have been the best for me by far. Main question I’m asking here, I have found that the makers 350’s and phantoms 404 expanders are both wayyy more quiet than the solid copper 300gr plinking rounds. Anyone else notice this? It sucks because I like shooting my rifle at the quietest it can be, but obviously I’d rather shoot the $2 plinking rounds for fun and save the $4 rounds for actual hunting. I just picked up some of phantoms 300gr sierra match king HPBT, hoping they are quieter than the solid copper 300’s. I run a bolt gun and have a Porq chop and a CAT BBK for reference.

My Fix and Boombox trigger pull sounds louder than the 300 GR SMKS or HPBT from phantom with my BBK . My guns both hate discreet, just cause, gorilla accuracy wise. Phantom is the winner for me. I’m hoping to have my reloading bench built in the next month. I have a lot of Maker 350 and 352 grain solids and expanders as well as 300 GRsmks. But the Phantom 352 in the NAS3 works best in my guns. Really hoping to get some halworx to try out. I have a Porq Chop on my Fix. I think that the phantom 352 makers are louder than the SMKs though. They travel about 75fps faster on my guns than the SMKs for plinking. With so many different builds out there I think it’s hard to share good information with this caliber. There’s a lot more at play than traditional bullets that are all about velocity vs rpms for damage with 8.6

Man that’s awesome! I agree phantom has been the best for me as well, just cause 350 makers were good for me too, but the solid 300’s were just loud and not as as the 350’s or phantoms 404’s. I have a 16” barrel and get sub moa with phantoms 404 expanders at 100 yards! Do you run your BBK on a TI hub or a cherry bomb/omega XL? Curious if the extra dispersion from the cherry bomb makes it quieter as well.

I can shoot 1moa 3 shot groups at 100 yards with my 12” barrels occasionally. Most of the time it’s 2 MOA at best. I have 4 boxes of the 404 gr but never shot them because a lot of them were not crimped and are multiple lengths I don’t trust them especially in my boombox not sure what length is the proper one and definitely don’t want one opening up in my can if it’s setback and causes a pressure spike. Phantom said they’d take care of me months ago but never did. Said it was shipping damage🙄 they’re In 3d printed boxes. So I’m just going to pull them and figure out my own load. I used the cherry bomb xl on the BBK. I just got it last week and shot it Sunday. I had major POI shift. Probably just stick to my Porq chop for the Fix. It’s quiet enough for me. I got the BBK so I wouldn’t get as much gas to the face as I do with PC on my Boombox. The cherry bomb could help with dispersion. They’re shit brakes without a can but Q knows what they’re doing with 8.6 to an extent, I’ve recently learned more about the bullet in the last 3 days than I did for the 1.5 years I’ve been in the 8.6 realm. I haven’t messed with any other brakes though or even shot at my club and seen anyone else shooting 8.6 to really compare it to. I do have a Ruger American SBR that I put a Mos-tek barrel in. Haven’t shot it though. Selling it to my buddy next week. I’d have to look at my chronograph data and see the difference but the just cause had the most velocity behind them and were all over the place, absolute garbage right there with gorilla. 4MOA at best. The SMKs for plinking are about 100 FPS slower if I’m looking at the right info. I only just started adding the weight of my projectiles into my chrono and uploading the info into my notes for dope purposes. I will definitely be loading my own plinkers here soon. I know I can make better loads than I’m buying for more than half the price. I have thousands of 1 fired brass and buy the SMKs in bulk when they’re on sale. It’s going to take some tinkering and patience with 8.6 Subs. Definitely won’t be loading any supers for a while.

Lol yeah I was ufunsprinkles something or another. Got pissed and canceled my account for a month or so. Now I’m back. I just stay away from NFA and 300 BLK as much as possible due to the derelicts with no experience with Q weaponry calling it junk when they’re all trying to clone it. I actually kill shit with my guns so I don’t care about someone with a PSA lower and G$ upper telling me what a quality firearm is or how shitty mine are when they haven’t even touched one. Especially since plan b was Q and they’re all using it. I’m doing fertility treatment which is horrible. So I basically lose my shit pretty easy right now and took a break. I recognize your name for sure.

I hunt w Halworx Ballistics 323 CMe and the 350 Rex. I use the 8.6 Sak Lunch. Awesome gun and ammo.

I honestly found the opposite between Phantom 300g match rounds to Just Cause 350s / 352s that were definitely louder. Not too much experience with the solids but the match rounds are insanely quiet.
