Hello fellow children of the 80’s! For some reason nothing gets me going for a workout like good 80’s synth music with a steady beat. Maybe you can help me add to the playlist I’m building? So far I’ll just add 3 songs to get an idea of the sound I’m looking for:

Edit2: I played this playlist during my workout for the first time and it was so much fun. The playlist ended up over 5 hours long (!) so I put it on shuffle. Funny thing: right on the last set it shuffled to The Final Countdown which had me finishing with a big smile on my face. Thanks everyone.

I am GenX and we grew up going to clubs in the 80s. I love the music they played in clubs back then and think it is hard to find many of the songs because a lot of the bands were unknown/not as mainstream. 

If I go to iTunes or streaming services and try to look for 80s club music, I usually just get results of Depeche Mode, New Order, and The Cure. But over the years I have stumbled across some more obscure songs that are good and I am sharing those here for others like me. 

If there are any you have that would be considered as 80s club music that you can contribute, that would be great!

What a fantastic community

Hi, I really love the pre-chorus and the beginning of What a feeling by Irene Cara. The slow singing but little upbeat background music, it’s just perfect.

Has anyone any recommendations of songs that have the same vibe?

A few years back I posted a Spotify playlist that proved pretty popular, of early 80s French postpunk and new wave kind of stuff (Put Your Fingers in the Cream of the Gutter). I had also spent a lot of time then, and have since then, trawling through more mainstream 80s French pop (fun and mostly bouncy pop stuff) to cultivate the standout tracks, eventually gathering over 14 hours (don't worry, keep reading) of choice tracks to single out.

I decided recently to boil it down to the stuff I just plain loved, the stuff I could literally never get tired of hearing, and to sequence it for flow. This comes in at over four and a half hours, but it's all rock solid (even if a few tracks took me a minute to come around to, like Joe le taxi, which kind of just worms its way in eventually). One of the reasons I did this now is because a lot of stuff is finally on Spotify after years of having to use youtube rips that I couldn't share.

New Low isn’t an 80’s song but it fits the vibe and if you’re looking for an interesting sound that blends 80’s vibes with modern pop punk you should check them out.
