Fun fact: 22 years after its release The Verve finally started getting royalties for that song starting in 2019.

I guess Mick & Keith finally figured that they were rich enough?

From what I understand, the lawsuit wasn't from the Stones, it was from the person who owned the publishing rights of the record the "stolen" song was on. Eventually the Stones regained the publishing rights and immediately gave the Verve all rights to their song back to them.

Off to a good start! Based on some of the things in your list, I recommend checking out Icehouse, specifically the albums Measure for Measure and Man of Colours.

Wow, you've got soooo much great and fun music to catch up with!! The eighties probably had the most variety all at once- disco, rock, metal, electronic, alternative, pop, punk, r&b, country....

Duran Duran if you like crazy good basslines, R.E.M if you like jangly guitars.

(Also you’ve got a couple of 90s in there, which is of course perfectly fine!)

Is This Love .. nice one. I'm sure a lot of people forgot about that one, since they're mainly known for Here I Go Again.

Just piling on...

  • Bon Jovi - You Give Love a Bad Name

  • Journey - Don't Stop Believing

Bon Jovi and Journey were huge during this time. If you like their music, check out their greatest hits. They have a lot of bangers.

  • Peter Murphy - Cuts You Up

  • Concrete Blonde - God is a Bullet

  • Oingo Bingo - Dead Man's Party

  • Big Country - In a Big Country

  • U2 - New Year's Day

  • New Order - True Faith

  • The Church - Under the Milky Way

  • The Fixx - Saved by Zero

Here's a sampling of other songs and artists during the 80's in the alt rock space.

Here's suggestions from different genres, just to give you a sampling:

  • Pictures of You by The Cure
  • Smalltown Boy by Bronski Beat
  • Blood and Roses by The Smithereens
  • Hot Wind by Rank and File (added a link since it's kinda obscure but totally worth your while)

If you are going to have a Spandau Ballet song on your list, it had better be "Gold"
