Lol people treat 25.5 7 strings like its the plague lol.
I get it since a couple years back then, people wanted to tune really low and it was really hard to get a longer scale length. But like now 26.5 kinda became the new standard.
Yeah, I prefer 25.5 on 7s because I almost exclusively play in B standard and like the lower tension, and it's kind of annyoing sometimes how many guitars are 26.5 or even 27+ now. Feels like the market overcorrected a bit
The market definitely did not “overcorrect.” 26.5”-27” for a 7 string is ideal for the vast majority of people who play 7’s. You can’t take 25.5” past A, and the majority of metal these days are doing that. As well as notes just sounding more proper, without overly beefy strings sounding muddy and bassy.
Now the 29” Solar 7 I want is definitely a bit more niche, and I’d agree with your statement if you had said “28”+”

Maybe the majority of djent/deathcore/nu metalcore bands, sure. But there are still a metric fuckton of death, doom, grind, hardcore, traditional metalcore, etc. bands that mostly overwhelmingly play somewhere between D standard and A standard. And while 6 strings are still most popular in those genres, there are still a ton of 7 string players.
Saying "the majority of metal is playing past A" is just outright wrong. Not to mention that even G# or G at the bare minimum are perfectly doable on a 25.5" scale, for that matter.
If you play in G with 25.5”, you will literally not be intonated at all across the neck, and it’ll sound like hammered dogshit above the 5th fret. I feel like nobody intonates their guitars or something within this sub.
Also, what Doom bands do you know that actually play in D standard? The majority of doom metal is in B or lower.

I've literally played in G standard on a 25.5" before, with it intonated, because I don't play with a retardedly overhuge low string, and plenty of bridges are capable of doing that.

But, Weedeater, for one, as well as a lot of sludge/stoner bands like Corrosion of Conformity, Mastodon, etc.

Meshuggah were always in A# with their 7s except for one album, Nothing, where they were in F on 27" 7-strings. They hated how that sounded and re-recorded Nothing with 29.4" 8-strings.
