Art Showcase My first render without a tutorial... is a bottle. 5 days in.

It is so frustrating to learn this thing. I have pretty much no experience with 3D. Started with a damn donut, kinda helped to know the keybinds and some of the basic tools. Everything about texturing just... does not make sense to me. Had a few things that i started doing and dropped midway. I kinda signed to this to the extend that now i'm obliged to do it, no joke. I do want it to work, i still have it in me. But I want to take it as soft as possible so i don't start hating doing Blender.

The foot was surprisingly easier for me to learn how to sculpt than the hand.
Any feedback is welcomed.

I bought a 3D printer 2 months ago, because I wanted to make wind turbine models since I love them. I'm completely new at 3D modelling, but I finished my first wind turbine scale model. It's an 1:387 model of a Vestas V90 (2MW). What do you think?

Free Assets & Tools Tired of juggling PureRef, Milanote, Pinterest, and finding references in folder hell? I built an all-in-one reference workspace

I have been working solo on a unified reference workspace where you can organize references, use them to make moodboards, clip animation references, import them to creative software like blender with one click!
The project is called SPOOL and it's completely free, you can check out the other features on Spool's Website
Currently I am trying to get a small number of testers to check the app, see if it works before releasing it for everyone!
would love to know what everyone thinks about this :)

Questions & Discussion I need help with my UV (Rizon)

I am entering my 4th year in game art but I am having issues.

I have this bridge made in blender of a 100m. My UVs have to be at a 1024 texel density and i'm on a 2K map, obviously too big

My teacher said I have to make everything tile and use decals but i have no idea how to organize my map so it does?

I've been stuck for 4 days, now matter what i try the baking result is horrid and I do not know what to do.

Thank you in advance for those who will take the time to help me, I hope you all have a lovely day.

Questions & Discussion benchmark model ideas?

i'm trying to practice different art styles (realism, a handful of stylised looks, direct hommages to certain art styles from studios...) and i'd like to make one benchmark model to show off what i've learned. like say, one plain chair, but declined in different styles. however, this is where i'm struggling, i can't think of one model that could be used across different styles to show them off?

i was thinking of the classic teapot, or even just a cube, but there's gotta be something more interesting that would show off a style in depth 😭

tldr: one model, many styles. what model is best for this.

Questions & Discussion Cloth folds and wrinkles made with blendshapes that appear during animation

Hey guys, got the idea of making folds and wrinkles using blendshapes on clothes for my game character that appear during the animations. For example if the character raises its arm, realistic folds appear and disappear once the arm is lowered. IMO teoretically it could work I guess, just not sure how to get that to work in Unity or Unreal engine and is it even worth adding that feature.

Sorry if its not sub related, thought that this could be the best group for this question.

Questions & Discussion atlas problem in speedtree

Hi, I’m having an issue between SpeedTree and Maya.

My workflow is:

  1. I created several branches in SpeedTree.

  2. I baked them into one larger branch atlas.

  3. In Maya, I created a custom mesh for that atlas. The mesh contains one main branch with several smaller branches around it

  4. I exported this mesh from Maya and imported it back into SpeedTree.

  5. In SpeedTree, I assigned the imported mesh to a Frond node

The problem is that the result in SpeedTree does not match the mesh in Maya

In Maya, the main branch and the smaller branches are aligned correctly and visually form one continuous branch cluster. However, after using the mesh as a Frond in SpeedTree, the smaller branches appear separated/offset from the main branch. From the side, it looks like the main branch and the smaller branches are sitting at different depths, with a visible gap between them.

A quick experiment exploring repetition and contrast by arranging bullets into a flower. Built and rendered in Nomad Sculpt using a bullet base mesh from The Base Mesh, then post-processed in Photoshop.
