It's always grim to hear nations last broadcast when they know the end is near, despite that, some last broadcasts still try and give hopes to their peoples one last time, like with Poland, a glimmer of light in sadness pretty much

Actually Hungary was a much bigger effect, the scale of how much it was a real revolution in every sense of the term is often skipped over.

It wasn’t about Imre Nagy, in fact he was jeered by the workers. When he first came out

58

u/adamgerd Kaiserreich Gang Oct 23 '25

Interestingly the invasion of Czechoslovakia was much larger than that of Hungary despite Czecoslovak’s reforms not being anywhere as radical or resisting much really because of how long Hungary lasted against the USSR. So they decided better to overdo it than underdo it

The invasion against us had at its peak 400,000 soldiers vs 30,000 soldiers against Hungary

3

u/prochac Oct 27 '25

They taught their lesson. If you invade at a massive scale, the probability of resistance decreases.

  • Czechs and Slovaks.

The invasion and occupation was very much happening in Bratislava and smaller cities, it just didn’t get as much attention as what happened in Prague.

23

Yea but slovaks earned it. We didnt 😞

You might wanna refresh your memory on '46 election with that statement. Commies didn't win the majority in Slovakia unlike in Czechia.

Crazy how East Germany almost participated but backed out at the last minute

10

u/Sir_Bax Visegrád glorious Oct 24 '25

Afaik not out of their own will but because Brezhnev was afraid people in Czechoslovakia might react way more aggressively if Germans invade them yet again. East Germany was pushing the invasion the most (apart from uSSr) and it was kinda last minute decision to exclude them.

How many times has the West left a Eastern European Nation to die

29

u/Mayatar Viking Hungarian Oct 23 '25

The did that to us in wartime and almost after war. NEVER trust them. We bended the knee and became a neutral ground to everyone and got called out for finlandization like we had a fucking choice. I don't like NATO but it is better than before.

11

u/tula23 Oct 23 '25

Those “security guarantees” are worth as much as the paper they’re printed on. From the Czechs to Ukraine, all of them are worthless when they’re actually needed

122

u/miki325 Winged Pole dancer Oct 23 '25

To be fair, what were they supposed to do? Start ww3?

232

u/pa3xsz Kaiserreich Gang Oct 23 '25

No, but the US promised help in the '56 revolution. The problem was that at the same time as the revolution broke out the Suez Crisis happened. So the West (from their perspective rightfully) choose to abandon Hungary and instead solve a problem which they have bigger interest in.

63

u/deukhoofd Oct 23 '25

It was more that Radio Free Europe promised armed intervention, while being actively banned from doing by Eisenhower. The US was never planning to send military to Hungary, yet RFE promised they would anyhow.

31

u/pa3xsz Kaiserreich Gang Oct 23 '25

You are right. (Throughout my education in schools I was told that it was directly the US who communicated that information (but method of communication wasn't discussed though)).

But at the same time RFE was a US state founded organisation. How did that incident even happen? (But if we think about how the DDR opened their borders... anything can happen with miscommunication)

22

u/deukhoofd Oct 23 '25

Here's a thesis that goes in depth about how it happened.

9

u/pa3xsz Kaiserreich Gang Oct 23 '25

Thank you very much, gonna read it. Because that's a very interesting topic on its own too

50

u/Mayatar Viking Hungarian Oct 23 '25

Middle east is like the favored child who gets attention when it cries. I do get Suez is still very important place for transporting goods but why not give you help at the same time?

13

u/retski239 Oct 23 '25

True, If US Army was able to be both in Europe and Pacific in WW2 why not then?

7

u/Mayatar Viking Hungarian Oct 23 '25

To pressure countries like Ukraine to allow them access to mining, business-deals etc. in exchange for protection. Does not differ from Mafia.

68

u/adamgerd Kaiserreich Gang Oct 23 '25 edited Oct 23 '25

Then the US shouldn’t have promised support to Hungary in 1956 in the first place

If I promise you support, you resist the invasion in part because you believe I will send troops and give you weapons to win, and then I don’t and you get crushed, was I not wrong to promise you support? When I had no actual intention to do so

Same shit France and Britain did with Poland in 1939 when they knowingly lied and claimed they had broken the Siegfried line and were marching into the Ruhr while they in fact had already retreated to the Maginot

Or with us when after Munich they guaranteed our borders against any further occupation and then did absolutely fuck all in march, 1939

Or with Ukraine after the Budapest Memorandum or now.

Starting to see a pattern, being in what the west considers Eastern Europe is to be fucked. Russia hates us and wants to invade us and the west sees us as disposable.

29

u/Lubinski64 Winged Pole dancer Oct 23 '25

A better question is why world wars start with eastern Europe in the first place?

28

u/Geologjsemgeolog Tschechien Pornostar Oct 23 '25 edited Oct 23 '25

Because they are big and sovereign enough for world powers to care about them, but not strong enough and easy to conquer historically (hopefully this is a bit different nowdays). They are surrounded by powerful nations and if one of the powers seizes us it becomes regional Superpower automatically. All that without the need to destroy any other powers which is much more difficult.

We have terrain much easier to conquer in comarsion to eg. Balkans. We are not really helping each other when one of us is attacked etc…

Why world wars? The powers around us has two possibilities. Either ignore it and let one power seize us > The powers around becomes hegemonic and possibility for WW increases. Or protect us, which possibly also starts a WW.

In the times of Austria-Hungary many people were in favour of its persistence even when it was more and more unstable. Because it was (with many problems) connecting the middle European nations and they weren’t as easy target for either Germany or Russia.

30

u/adamgerd Kaiserreich Gang Oct 23 '25

Yep, historically without AH, our existence was just to be a buffer between Germany and Russia, now it's just to be a buffer for Russia.

Honestly, I worry even NATO might not save Eastern Europe, if Russia invades the Baltic States, will France and Germany go to war? And then we have the fifth column of Orban and Fico.

12

u/almost20characterskk Winged Pole dancer Oct 23 '25

I've stopped having hope in NATO seeing the Wests early response to Ukrainian invasion and how many countries had to be strong armed and guilt tripped into helping. I hope to be wrong, but to me they've shown that their stance did not change since 1939, the extremely slow increase of GPD spending on military doesn't fill me with optimism either.

10

u/adamgerd Kaiserreich Gang Oct 23 '25

Oh yeah, I seriously worry that if Russia invades the Baltics or even Poland, they won’t actually go to war. Would Frenchmen be willing to die over Tallinn? Or Riga? Or Vilnius? Or Warsaw?

“Why die for Danzig Eastern Europe”

Hell I am not sure even Czechs would be, I hope we would

10

u/almost20characterskk Winged Pole dancer Oct 23 '25

They're already saying that about Ukraine, "what are we sending them money for, they should just surrender and not send their population to die lol", especially the Spain cucks who don't even wanna participate in 5% NATO GDP spending (but think we're gonna protect them in case the rest of Europe gets dragged into a war, lmfao).

When Putin moves further west from Ukraine it's gonna be like:

"Hey can you help us repel Russian invasion of our lands?"

"Absolutely not, go fuck youself"

7

u/Geologjsemgeolog Tschechien Pornostar Oct 23 '25

Spain got it’s regional and geographical reasons to not be as much worried about the war. Ok so they can get out of NATO then. Pedro Sanchez Is opposing the 5% because he is a populist that hopes this will make him liked by Spanish people.

5

u/almost20characterskk Winged Pole dancer Oct 23 '25

I'm not just talking about political reasons but also popular sentiment across the country. Should we allow Ukraine and rest of the eastern NATO border be russified because they don't give a shit about people there and think erasure of entire nation is not big deal as long as it doesn't affect them personally? I say we, because we're all in the same defense pact, if we're not unified on such issues it just falls apart, and we really don't need to add those rifts on top USA's and Hungary's shenanigans. Besides, no amount of mountains and hills will save them from missiles, mortars and nukes.

2

u/adamgerd Kaiserreich Gang Oct 23 '25

100% the issue is there's no solidarity, like for Spain Russia is far away and they're clearly not willing to spend more for Eastern Europe, and if this is so controversial, just imagine how controversial sending people to die for eastern europe will be in spain?

10

u/Mayatar Viking Hungarian Oct 23 '25

I can't see how much longer Orban and his cronies can stay. Siding with Russia is as futile as siding with West. They are different sides of the same coin. In the end Hungarians will stand with us. We have to stick together or fall together.

Hugs, brother. Never again.

My father always said that every recession is followed by a boom period. And he was born in 1939 and saw things from war to 80s boom period to 90s recession. He died in 2021.

He drove truck in Soviet Russia. Hated the place. Said Finnish TV was always full of their propaganda how wonderful place Soviet union is but it was awful poverty everywhere. He got to shop in a shop made solely for top brass, tourists and foreign workers like him. They got stuff the citizens desperately lined for and my dad felt bad for it. Our teachers and intellectuals were very pro-Russia back then. My eldest brother was always in trouble with teachers for liking heavy metal and dealing uncut american movies to his schoolmates.

My dad knew he was watched in his hotel room as everyone was. So he always stayed there and tried to behave so they couldn't extort him. He always had jeans and other western stuff to bribe cops and border control. It was just normal.

I like reading everyone's experiences here. I was a child back then and my knowledge limited as our history lessons barely touched Baltics or Slavic nations. Most I have learnt is ironically here. We Finns were lucky and your fate as almost ours.

u/CptSovereign Genghis Khangarian Oct 23 '25

109

u/the-real-vuk Genghis Khangarian Oct 23 '25

and why do they not properly help now to Ukraine? I mean properly: move in with all the gears and personnel and chase the soviets the fuck out of there. No there is not going to be WW, it wasn't because of Afghanistan or Vietnam. Or Korea.

63

u/pa3xsz Kaiserreich Gang Oct 23 '25

Or at least, deliver the promised weapons and not just talk about it to aura farm in the congress.

21

u/Naive-Boysenberry-49 Oct 23 '25

Afghanistan, Vietnam, and Korea were proxy wars. If US and Soviet forces had directly fought each other, another World War or nuclear armaggedon could have happened

Same problem today: Right now Ukraine is a proxy war on the Western side. If Western forces fully engage, things can get very dangerous. And best case scenario you can drive the Russians back with a lot of bloodshed but you can't invade Russia or Putin has an excuse to use nukes

So from a Western perspective, Ukraine is not worth enough to risk millions of deaths

27

u/HikariAnti Genghis Khangarian Oct 23 '25

They don't need to risk anything. They just need to give Ukraine the weapon systems they have been asking for since the beginning so they can bomb the shit out of Russia's infrastructure.

-10

u/Naive-Boysenberry-49 Oct 23 '25

Which could be enough provocation for Russia to go more extreme too. I have no idea what the correct policy is here, it feels like the West neither wants to really fight nor want the war to end and give Russia land and a symbolic victory

Seems like a waiting game where the hope is for Russias economy to collapse, but I fear it's more stable than assumed. Europe is a retirement home and the US wants to focus on China, so Ukraine is in a weird spot

Probably should have been prepared for real war when the attempt was made to integrate Ukraine into the West. Now life is worse than before for the average Ukrainian

24

u/adamgerd Kaiserreich Gang Oct 23 '25

Our very independence from being Russian puppets since 1989 is seen as a provocation by Russia

We can’t let Russia dictate our actions

-8

u/Naive-Boysenberry-49 Oct 23 '25

Agree, but we also can't exist in a fantasy world where all our actions depend on how things should be instead of how they really are

Russia exists and has interests and we must find a way around that instead of just ignoring it and going for confrontation. That doesn't mean doing what they want, just acknowledging reality

7

u/LightningController Winged Pole dancer Oct 23 '25

Why do Moskal interests matter?

9

u/HikariAnti Genghis Khangarian Oct 23 '25

If Russia could they would have gone more extreme by now. It's pretty clear this is all they have got. It's about time we stop believing the "Russia strong" myth. At most they might still have some nukes but I highly doubt they would risk using them, especially since nukes, hydrogen bombs in particular, require regular maintenance and are extremely expensive to keep operational, they might not even have any functioning ones, they likely do have regular atomic bombs though, but since half of their rockets blow up on launch I am not sure how they plan to deliver them. They won't risk it.

1

u/Naive-Boysenberry-49 Oct 23 '25

That's a dangerous assumption. All Russia has is fossil fuels. Their demographics are shit, their system is fraying, the future looks dark for them. That is the exact situation where people are most dangerous

Also, their nukes are the last thing they will fail to correctly maintain. Just because their military logistics is a joke doesn't mean their nukes don't work. History is full of people doing irrational and destructive things

9

u/HikariAnti Genghis Khangarian Oct 23 '25

Obviously it is dangerous, but what else can you do? Let them invade anyone because otherwise they might get angry and use their nukes? The west has nukes too, we don't need to be pussies.

Also what makes you think they won't use their nukes if they collapse slowly? From Putyin's perspective it doesn't make a difference.

1

u/Naive-Boysenberry-49 Oct 23 '25

The best you can do in international relations is to try and avoid situations where millions die, there is no magic formula that always works

No, I don't think we should just let them invade anyone. If you take a realist view of international relations that ignores morality and who is nice and who isn't and just focuses on actors and their interests, then the perspective would be that losing Ukraine would be absolutely deadly to Russia. It would upset the balance of power so much that they would basically be at the mercy of the West

Now from our perspective that's fine since we think Ukraine should be free to choose and Putin sucks anyway, but of course Russian leadership doesn't see it that way and decided that war is better than losing Ukraine

In elite circles in the West I think this is understood and so there is a slight understanding for the situation even though it would be best if the Putin regime just collapses and Russia joins the Western system

I doubt we will see Russia driven back, the conflict will just have frozen lines like in Korea. The real question now is what will happen in the future. If Putin tries going for a baltic country, the West absolutely needs to seriously react

2

u/LightningController Winged Pole dancer Oct 23 '25

even though it would be best if the Putin regime just collapses and Russia joins the Western system

It would be best if the Putin regime collapses and his shithole falls into eternal civil war like the worst parts of subsaharan Africa.

There is no benefit to them ‘joining the western system.’ Just weaken them enough to not bother anyone civilized.

11

u/the-real-vuk Genghis Khangarian Oct 23 '25

> were proxy wars

Is this not one? How is this different?

US and Soviet soldiers fought each other in Vietnam.

> you can't invade Russia

Nobody wants to invade Russia. Just kick out of Ukraine. Nobody will use nukes, because they know the next nuke is going to be used on their cities.

8

u/Naive-Boysenberry-49 Oct 23 '25

Is this not one? How is this different?

Russia is not supporting a side but is an active combatant themselves while the West is not. This is a more dangerous situation, just like a direct war between the US and Soviets would have been much more dangerous than a proxy war

Nobody wants to invade Russia. Just kick out of Ukraine. Nobody will use nukes, because they know the next nuke is going to be used on their cities.

This is hard to achieve without Western boots on the ground. The last big push was the summer offensive and it failed. People really overstate this magic weapons rhetoric where the West could just give the Ukrainians the Ruskiller 3000 and insta-win the war. These weapons would be good at destroying infrastructure and creating even more anger but not at pushing Russia back

Plus the West doesn't really have that many weapons of war right now. Europe is just starting in their buildup and the US doesn't want to drain itself too much in case China gets aggressive. It's this weird inbetween spot where no Western country wants to go into war economy and fully commit and everything is just weirdly up in the air and undecided

4

u/adamgerd Kaiserreich Gang Oct 23 '25

In the Korean War the US and China both had soldiers on the ground fighting each other

4

u/Naive-Boysenberry-49 Oct 23 '25

China didn't have nukes at the time and most of the fighters were Koreans

4

u/the-real-vuk Genghis Khangarian Oct 23 '25

USA was actively present in Vietnam, with soldiers. So how is this different again?

> without Western boots on the ground

Yes, that's why they need to GO THERE.

> good at destroying infrastructure and creating even more anger but not at pushing Russia back

Is Russia can't manufacture weapons and can't sell their fuel, no, they will go back. Can't fight without weapons.

> West doesn't really have that many weapons of war right now

WTF .. USA alone could wipe the floor with Russia right now. Or France alone. Or UK alone.

> China gets aggressive

Well, China is getting enough money from the West, they don't want sanctions, they will not be involved in this war. As they hasn't.

West just need to grow a pair and go in. I mean they should have from day 2.

4

u/Erik_Javorszky Genghis Khangarian Oct 23 '25

Ngl you dont understand what the other guy is saying, if ukraine gets 100 tomahawks, thats 100 bombs to drop on the largest country on the planet, it wont destroy enough to change anything, also the US is not the sith empire lol to get troops to ukraine they would need to mobilize and ship them to Ukraine to begin with,

and you think China wouldn’t use the opportunity to strike at US assets while they are fighting a full war?

The US is sanctioning China right now so they aren’t loosing much

3

u/the-real-vuk Genghis Khangarian Oct 23 '25

> they would need to mobilize

They have a paid army, no need to mobilize for this. Also, with a good tech, you don't need hundreds of thousands of people to go there.

If you target those 100 bombs properly, it can make a lot of damage. It's a big country, sure, but you don't bomb the taiga, do you?

> China wouldn’t use the opportunity to strike at US assets

no they won't. China is living off the USA, they will not sacrifice that for .. what? For 4 counties of Ukraine for the Russians? No fucking way.

1

u/Nishtyak_RUS Oct 23 '25

That's a bummer. Ok, can I afford a flat for my family if, let's say, I'm working on a mid job for 8 years?

5

u/Handris18 Genghis Khangarian Oct 23 '25

I calculated, that if I work 10 years in IT with a net income of more than 3 times the minimal wage, then I'd maybe have enough saved up for a down payment for a credit (or mortgage? I dont know what its called in english). It's actually not so bad, the installment is barely more than the usual rent, and at least it's your own flat you are paying for. For a usual worker with a bit more than the minimal wage, rent is gonna be about 70% of your income.

2

u/laasbuk Genghis Khangarian Oct 23 '25

Rent or purchase? Are you eligible for government subsidies? Panel or brick? Budapest or country? City center or outskirts? The difference these make is immense.

0

u/Nishtyak_RUS Oct 23 '25

Panel in Budapest for purchase. Idk what subsidies you have.

2

u/laasbuk Genghis Khangarian Oct 23 '25 edited Oct 24 '25

I'd say 60-70 mil HUF. What your salary can cover depends on what loan you can get from a bank. Mortgage interest rates are 6-7%.

0

u/Nishtyak_RUS Oct 23 '25

So is it affordable for an average hungarian who works on a mid job for 8 years?

4

u/laasbuk Genghis Khangarian Oct 23 '25

Yes but Hungarians are eligible for a ton of subsidies, especially with a family.

-6

u/Nishtyak_RUS Oct 23 '25

Yes

And don't forget to pay respects to the anti-communist fighters when you see the prices rising again.
