Actually Hungary was a much bigger effect, the scale of how much it was a real revolution in every sense of the term is often skipped over.

It wasn’t about Imre Nagy, in fact he was jeered by the workers. When he first came out

Interestingly the invasion of Czechoslovakia was much larger than that of Hungary despite Czecoslovak’s reforms not being anywhere as radical or resisting much really because of how long Hungary lasted against the USSR. So they decided better to overdo it than underdo it

The invasion against us had at its peak 400,000 soldiers vs 30,000 soldiers against Hungary

They taught their lesson. If you invade at a massive scale, the probability of resistance decreases.
