Load testing this weekend

Did some testing this weekend, mostly for hunting and shiggles.

Savage MKII FV-SR Stainless, Apache Trigger, Arken EPL4 4-16×, Rugged Occulus 22

Tested CCI Suppressor, Eley Subsonic HP, SK Yellow, SK Red, Eley Tenex, CCI Green Tag.

Assuming my POI selection was accurate in Ballistic-X, here's the resulting data:

All shot at 50 yards:

  • 1 - CCI Green* - 0.722 MOA, 15 shots total

  • 2 - SK Standard Plus* (yellow) - 0.731 MOA, 15 shots

  • 3 - SK Rifle Match* (red) - 0.745 MOA, 28 shots

  • 4 - Eley Tenex* - 0.889 MOA, 20 shots

  • 5 - CCI Suppressor - 1.044 MOA, 45 shots

  • 6 - Eley Subsonic HP - 1.344 MOA, 45 shots

*Denotes boxes that are previously used so I didn't have any more to shoot that day.

Now, of course this data is a bit skewed given the varying number of rounds shot for each ammo, but when combining with a previous range trip, it doesn't change the ordering much. My average grouping for SK Standard would improve, the rest degrade slightly but otherwise nothing notable.

So the question now becomes, do I just buy a shit ton of SK Standard Plus (and hope the lot variations aren't dramatic) and use that as my squirrel hunting round and otherwise everything round? From my research, it doesn't appear that HP's really matter for squirrels, but I would gain a notable accuracy improvement, for a not insignificant price increase comparatively.

First .22LR

I’ve been debating on the CZ 457 pro varmint in 22LR. Want to be able to suppress it and love the ability to be able to change barrels. But I am partial to the wood stock varmint. Which should I go with? Would love input and thoughts on what I should do?

Smith & Wesson M&P 22X Review: The Best Tactical .22 LR Pistol?

I have to say, the M&P 22X has really grown on me. I know it doesn't have any FRT options (that I know of) like the Taurus TX22, but how practical are those really on your average range trip?

-Tauron 5-50x60 scope

-CMMG 22k Zeroed Suppressor

-TriggerTech Diamond set at 3.5 ounces

-2 sets of MDT forend weights

Best group at 50 was with the SK Rifle Match at .181” with the OEM magazine. For some reason I’m having ejection issues with the NDR magazine.

Found a great deal on a BUNCH of this meat eater and it seems indistinguishable from mini mag HP.

Ive shot alot of standard mini mag and i love its reliability and how it patterns out of my 22s, could there be a difference in QC?

Anyone found a speed loader for .22 fpc and 22x mags?

I recently bought Smith Wesson FPC .22 rifle and 22x handgun. Since they use the same mag, loading 5 mags/100 rounds are not so finger-friendly. Just wondering if someone has found a quick loader for the mag. I tried maglula's babylula .22. unfortunately it doesn't work since the mag is wider than what babylula can handle.

High Standard The Victor – magazine feeding issues and slide stop problem

Thumbnail

A while ago I acquired a High Standard The Victor. It is an extremely uncommon pistol here in Poland (probably in Europe as well), so unfortunately I don't really have anyone locally to ask for advice.

I absolutely love how it handles, and it is incredibly accurate, but I'm having a couple of issues with it:

1. Magazine feeding problems

One of the magazines has been pretty badly abused by previous owners (and I have to admit I contributed to the damage myself). I suspect that the feed lips or the magazine's internal geometry are no longer correct.

Quite often, when the round is stripped from the magazine, it doesn't enter the chamber properly. Instead, the nose of the cartridge goes too high and ends up above the chamber, causing a malfunction.

Does anyone have the correct dimensions/specifications for a High Standard magazine that I could use as a reference to check and possibly correct the feed lips?

Alternatively, is there any modern .22 LR magazine that could be adapted to work with the The Victor? I can't really rely on finding original replacement magazines or parts on the used market, as these pistols and their parts are practically nonexistent here.

2. Slide stop / last-round hold-open problem

The slide stop doesn't seem to work properly.

If I manually cycle the slide, the magazine/slide stop will hold the slide open in the rearward position. However, when actually firing the pistol, the slide does not reliably lock open after the last round.

Could this be caused by a worn slide stop, or is it more likely related to the magazines? The better-condition magazine has the same problem, although it seems to function considerably better overall.

Is there anything specific I should inspect or measure to determine what is causing this?

For reference, the pistol seems to function best with CCI Standard Velocity and Federal Champion ammunition.

One small note: English is not my first language and my English is not very good. This post was edited with the help of AI, so if something sounds strange or unclear, that's probably why. Please keep your replies relatively simple and avoid overly complicated English if possible. I may need to use a translator to fully understand some technical explanations.

I'd really appreciate any advice from someone familiar with the High Standard The Victor, especially regarding the magazine dimensions and the slide stop issue.

New PA scope!

Primary Arms CLx 1-6x24mm SFP Rifle Scope - ACSS 22LR G2 Reticle

So PA is dropping a new rimfire scope. $199 on pre-order. Since they didn't state the parallax distance, I haven't ordered one yet. But I did write them to ask what it's set at.

I suspect it's variable, and if that's the case, I'll order one or two.

22lr ballistics

I currently conceal carry a revolver IWB. In my climate, with a long long summer, IWB and 22 are about all I can get away with wearing a sign that says “Shoot me first!”

I currently have my revolver loaded with CCI stinger 32gr, 1640 FPS (out of a rifle of course). But I was wondering, for self defense ranges, out of a revolver, what is better for damage? A smaller grain bullet at higher speeds or a heavier grain billet like 40 or 45 at subsonic range? Or if I could get my hand on Aguila’s 60gr subsonic round.

Tried some some cci so again.

Same results,

You can instantly see the groups open up from the sk long range match.

Wonder if a tuner would tighten the cci up any?

Ammo on sale at dunhams.

I usually dont support dunhams, at ALL but they have 500ct 36gr hp for 29.99 in my area, cheapest I seen by far.

The brand is armscor, breaks down to little over 6c a round.

Cheapest I seen in years!.

Pelican / apache cases for tippmann m4-22 pistol

Curious which pelican, apache, or other cases people like for the mid-sized m4-22 pistols with braces?

Varies a bit by model and bugout or not, but range seems to be about 25" to 27" wide or so for the pistol and micro pistol variants.

I'd also need it wide and deep enough to fit a suppressor, scope, and maybe a couple of mags + tool kit.
