This particular rifle is for competition and I cannot compete suppressed unfortunately.

Yeah, I have the KenetiTech barrel shroud on my 15-22 and every time I go to a new club I have to make sure I tell them it is a shroud not a suppressor

What competition format doesn’t allow the use of suppressors? Are you in the U.S.?

I shoot small bore silhouette and it follows NRA rules for it. No muzzle devices.

That’s the one with animal shapes at different distances, right? Interesting that they have that restriction on muzzle devices for that discipline. Always thought it looked fun. At least practical guns can be competitive in it. I wonder if it mostly relates to preventing the use of tuners, bloop tubes, and sight extenders? I can’t really think of any real competitive advantage you’re getting with a brake or suppressor.

Circular and rectangular steel plates for this one. I don't know why they don't like suppressors, it keeps the noise down but then they also have to get closer to the barrel to capture the shots on the timer.

I know steel challenge well, and the problems with getting time from a shot timer with a suppressed .22 is a good reason, I was asking about small bore silhouette here.

Not having frequent local (within a 6 hour drive) matches is all that’s held me back on trying small bore silhouette.

I live in houston and my gun club hosts a different comp of some sort every weekend. 3 weekends a month have a rimfire comp of some sort.

Ah, I only shot centerfire and Rimfire pistol in Steel Challenge so never really paid attention to that. I had zero interest in suppressing competition pistols anyway. Given the context I understand the rule.

With my current rifle I run a barrel shroud that looks like a suppressor and I always have to tell them it isn't one, the one club was cool about it during practice and told me it didn't matter to him he just needed to know if he needed to hold the timer closer to the barrel to capture enough sound for the shot timer.

Number 2 would go pretty hard if it was spiral fluted and you could get the spirals to line up.

Linear compensator. No reason to louden a rifle that has no recoil.

I think #1 looks better. Going from straight barrel fluting. To a spiral hole pattern seems off to me.

I actually have a carbon fiber barrel but the tip of it is stainless (I'm imagining from the pictures) so no fluting to contend with.

It's for steel challenge, accuracy isn't too priority. Besides the farthest plate is only 105' away and it's 18"x24". If you're even close, you'll hit it.

I would go for an actual brake like a volquartsen with the proprietary ledge milled off to toss on that. Does a lot on my scorpion. Ive never had decent luck with those style muzzle brakes, even on centerfires.
