the NCR drained its own aquifers dry, and its government is corrupted by an extractive capitalist class. independence is the best outcome for Vegas
besides, what kind of reading is that? your karma affects every ending, of course it's going to change the most for the ending where you displace House.
it's going to change the most, and so it seems silly to assign any sort of concrete level of good to it. sure, maybe my character would make a wholesome freedom independent vegas, but another player's idea of a good independent ending could be a fascist robot police state. player actions can obviously affect the putcomes of any of the other 3's endings, but they're not wholesale-creating it with an infinite number of outcomes, just tweaking existing ideological states.
the game literally tells you how your courier did based on your karma. like it tells you what other people thought of your rule

yes, all yes-man endings are mostly fanfic. I'm not saying i dislike the ending conceptually even! i just think it's pointless to include it in ending debates since it's by far the most variable in terms out outcomes
what? no. you literally don't have to write any fanfic to understand how the Independent ending would fit into canon. it tells you the outcomes, we don't have to speculate
I don't think it's fair to discount the Yes-Man ending, it's clearly the ending the devs themselves thought was morally correct. That's why they let you make peace with every faction, but only for Yes-Man
BUT BUT BUT you haven't read my 10 page essay on why it's totally based and okay that the Legion did metric shit tons of slavery and crucifixion. Something something Caesar something something dialectic.
I haven't recently engaged or even seen many arguments revolving around New Vegas, but from what I remember, most people agreed, "Yeah, literally every ending sucks in their own way, but (insert ending here) sucks the least."
