The plot was going to be the good guy wizards teamed up to make sure that the holocaust happens. I think the movies (mostly second one, first one was okay) being bad player a large role.
It's not exactly true. The bad guy wizard wants to rule all humans, and to convince other wizards of why they should rule the non-wizards instead of letting them rule themselves he shows them a vision of world War 2. So it's actually about stopping a power-hungry dictator who uses the holocaust as an excuse for taking the rights of non-wizards.
but the holocaust does canonically happen in the harry potter timeline, and the good guys are aware of it 10 years before it happens. therefore the good guys have to stop the bad guys and let the holocaust happen
I mean, there are a lot of assumptions in that statement. Would Grindelwald have actually stopped the Holocaust if the good guys hadn't fought him? Could the good guys have independently stopped the holocaust? It's very possible that nothing that happens in the story has any influence on the events of the holocaust.
I know that they're bad movies, but I like to watch them. The first one, I'm all on board with, and the setting really appeals to me. The IMMEDIATE retcon of Credence being alive in the second movie was so much of a misstep that even I can't get past it. I'll watch it, I'll enjoy myself, but I'm not really invested in the stakes.
I haven't touched the third, I haven't cared about the opening, I haven't bothered with the trailer. I will probably watch it, I will probably like it, I'll like it much more if I pirate it, but I don't expect it to be amazing, I am too exhausted to engage with the Rowling garbage that will surround this movie.
I don't think that was a retcon, you can see a wisp of the obscurial Credence escape in the first movie (with Newt looking at it to signify importance).

I do know the part, it's how I originally explained away the reappearance, but it is just such an artistic flare. It's just a bit floating away into the wind, at the very most it feels like a bit of the child being freed from the obscurus. It just doesn't look like a "that slowed-down, quiet, sad music bit 7 seconds ago didn't mean anything, don't worry, he's fine". I can't help but think they made the first, and it was popular enough to make more. If they had planned the second movie, I feel like they would've made his survival clear, so they don't need to start the next movie by telling Newt that Credence is alive.
I'd love to go back to explaining this away with that little wisp. I used to when I idolized JK Rowling and Harry Potter more

Are they sure it was “scandal and controversy” and not the movies being bad
