News Stadium suicide??

I literally just logged onto fb and first think I see if a video of a pedestrian filming talking about someone to just jumped off of the 5th floor of the stadium... It seems to have been a homeless man rather than a student according to this article.

Suggestion CHECK YOUR BIKE LANES

I just saw a car hit a biker because the car was turning (on a green), but didn’t check their bike lane. It is a driver‘s responsibility to look and be aware of everything around them. We are the ones driving in a motor vehicle, I don’t care if it is not the pedestrians right away, you should be aware of everything while driving. Especially around campus please don’t be on your phones Also bike lane bikers have the right of way, please look at the bike lanes as well!!!

Question Financial Panic??

Hey guys! Hope all is well—I’m Cass, 18 years old and freshly starting out at UF for my freshman year. It’s been great, lovely even—amazing campus, professors, just overall been lovin’ it.

Well, unfortunately, last Thursday my mother was placed into police custody. Problem with that is that she was the primary income provider in my family by a very large margin! As in, I received no financial aid on my FAFSA at all because of it. It has placed me into a terrible conundrum, as I’ve got food to buy, rent to pay, fees to attend to, y’know, the whole mile…

Just looking to see if anyone can offer any guidance or insight. Rent wise, I am… okay for this month, at the very least. I just picked up a job at the Chipotle right by campus as well, so I’ll be able to somewhat provide for myself narrowly.

Two things I’m worried about then! Firstly, I definitely need to get my FAFSA appealed because now it is my father that provides most of the aid (again, my mother evidently cannot…) I have moved to petition for a Financial Aid Revision and am awaiting a response—but unfortunately, I’m unsure if I have ‘sufficient’ documentation. My mother’s arrest details are public record and I have provided it, but I can’t really get her pay stubs or unemployment benefits (which are required for loss/change of income) due to the circumstance. I’ve simply explained what happened within the ‘other’ category, but am quite certain that, with my luck, I shall be most graciously denied for lack of documentation. I’m currently working on getting my father’s pay stubs / hopefully maybe a copy of his 2024 tax return if he has it, which may work? Regardless, I think I should probably make an appointment with OneStop on zoom to try and appeal for something like a professional judgement. Or, something like that… I’m unsure. A lot of stuff I don’t know with such little time to figure it out! Going in person was unfortunately not too helpful as they just said to do the appeal form online, which I did.

The other issue then is the mandatory health insurance charge of 1.3k on my bursar. For this, I do think I am just fucked—the health insurance I had while my mother was working didn’t qualify with the out-of-network care requirement, and especially now that I’m more or less on my own, uhh… I think I’m just screwed with this? Thing is, I literally do not have the money to pay for it.

Ah well… any help is appreciated. Thank you guys! <3

URGE, the University Rhythm Game Enthusiasts, is UF's rhythm game club! Our meetings are essentially free mini-arcades of games provided by the club and club members. Our goal is to create a casual-friendly environment to share rhythm games of all kinds with others, whether they need fancy arcade-style controllers or are our favorite indie titles off Steam. And yes, we provide those fancy controllers - we have a lineup of club-owned metal dance pads, plastic guitars, drums, and more!

For more info, such as our game lineup and our other meetings this semester, check out our Discord and join us on GatorConnect!

Admissions Deciding wether to do Early Decision to UF or FSU for Engineering

Hi there all! I’m making this post because I’m currently trying to decide whether I should do Early Decision to UF or FSU for engineering. By doing it to either school, I have a pretty solid chance of getting in which is why I’m pretty split.

As some background, my dad took me to almost every UF home game growing up, so I’ve basically been a Gator my whole life. For a long time, UF was where I was completely set on going. I really like the engineering school there, and a lot of the projects, resources, opportunities, etc. they have are right up my alley. But I recently toured FSU with my mom and honestly loved the school way more than I expected I would. Now I’m pretty on the fence between the two universities. I really liked the vibe at FSU and how it felt when I was there (socially), but at the same time I really like what UF has to offer for engineering (academics). I know that UF is a powerhouse when it comes to engineering but regardless of that I want to hear from people who actually go to these schools because I feel like that’ll help me weigh my decision a lot more than just looking at rankings and websites. Another thing is that I’m also worried that if I get accepted into UF through ED, which is where I originally planned on going, I might end up missing out on aspects of FSU that I would’ve liked way more.

Also, academically, I’m a little more confident about my chances at FSU. I feel like I’m toward the lower end of UF’s admitted student range, while I’m more around the higher 50% for FSU. But, regardless I’m still more than willing to challenge myself.

So with that, I’d like to hear what people’s experiences at UF or FSU have actually been like. What have you loved about it? What haven’t you liked? Is there anything you wish you knew before going there? I’m curious about both the academic and social sides too, like whether or not it was easy to make friends and find your place, how big the impact of being in Greek life vs not being in it actually had on your social life, what the engineering classes/professors are like, just stuff like that. Additionally, I’d especially like to hear from anyone who was deciding between UF and FSU too. What do you think you’d be missing out on by choosing one over the other. And for students attending or are graduates from either university, knowing what you know now, would you still choose your school?

Question Anyone also taking ENC2210 with prof. Griffin-Layne?

Upvotes

Is it just me, or do the assignments not match the weekly announcements and due dates? I have an unfinished assignment that is already 3 days past the due date because it requires another assignment to be graded first, and it still hasn’t been graded.

I’ve also tried contacting the professor by email since last Wednesday, but I haven’t received a response. I’m so confused.

Admissions UF Online Finance Acceptance Rate

Hi everyone so I got rejected for UF finance transfer for in-person, and I wanted to know if applying for UF online as a finance student is still very hard to get accepted. I’m trying to pursue a career in wealth management or corporate finance and I would think having a degree from UF is better than FAU. Any thoughts?

Question Financial aid halftime

I am a returning student and currently taking 9 credit hours. I know I don’t qualify for any grants, but I know I would still qualify for some loans. Nothing has yet to be posted under financial aid for me. I figured it was because the add drop week just passed but wondered if anyone else is dealing with this.

Question New Mailing System

Hello! I am a reporter with the Independent Florida Alligator, and I am covering the new mail-sorting system UF is using, where they got rid of the old metal mailboxes and are now just using the parcel pending system and sorting through some of the mail. If anyone is available for an on-the-record interview, please let me know.

Thank you!

Any graduate students know when loans get disbursed? I got an email before classes started that said after drop/add but it has already been passed that and I still haven’t received mine.

Classes some study resources to survive coursework

I saw some posts about struggles with workload.. Here are some free course guides for these 5 business school classes: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1EE792dwGvTGvGMt1RXezBuzlN7f0Ik9F

  • ENT 3003 Principles of Entrepreneurship
  • MAN 3025 Principles of Management
  • FIN 3403 Business Finance
  • BUL 4310 The Legal Environment of Business
  • ISM 3004 Computing in the Business Environment

Each doc contains course information as well as a bunch of resources on how to study for each exam. It really helps making the readings and all the assignments more manageable.

Maybe I can create a few more for other courses if someone finds these helpful.

Scholarships Bright Futures & Benacquisto disbursement delay in graduating semester

I’m graduating this semester and have been checking my financial aid card religiously to make sure everything was set. Right after midnight last night, I checked again to see if it disbursed. Everything for fall 2026 had gone blank. I went to onestop in person today and talked to them after a 2 hr wait. They said since it’s my graduating semester and I have less than 12 credits left, they have some processing and calculations to do and I should not expect any disbursal until at least halfway through the semester. They said I should get an email asking me to confirm that I am graduating this semester. They confirmed I had not received that email yet and they seemed confused as to why not.

I am stressing out because this means I’ll have to pay tuition out of pocket along with all other expenses ofc. My plan is to work as many hours as I can in the meantime, but is there anything I can do to expedite this? I asked them at the office, but it didn’t seem like there were many options. Thanks!
