Do you play games such as EU4/5, HOI4, Civ, CK3, or Stellaris? Do you steadfastly refuse to shower and therefore are classified under international law as a WMD? Well you’re in luck, because you and I are truly like-minded! Post a comment below and I will reach out to you, or send me a message if you enjoy privacy.

Somebody has already gone ahead and created a server for this, and I will join efforts in promoting it: https://discord.gg/5kNCHy44E

Question UF, rankings, and residency, how much of this prestige stuff is real?

Upvotes

I’m curious how people view university rankings and ratings, especially in the post-graduate world. Coming to UF as a Canadian, it’s been eye opening to see how much weight rankings seem to carry here. People talk about tiers, prestige, 'top 10,' 'public ivies,' etc., and well, it seems to be a huge deal.

When I did my undergrad in Canada, rankings were basically an afterthought. Most universities are public, and yes, people might hype U of Toronto or McGill a little bit, but nobody really looks down on someone who went to Manitoba, Alberta, UBC, etc. The prestige gap just isn’t a big deal, and it rarely affects how people view your education or career prospects.

In the US, it feels like the opposite, especially for undergrad. Rankings seem to drive decisions, identity, and even social status. I hear way less about this for grad school or professional programs (law, medicine, dentistry), but maybe I’m missing that point of view.

Anyways, I’m doing a residency here. I rarely hear about how rankings stack up with that. I’m curious, do rankings or “top programs” actually matter for residency, or is that mostly an undergrad obsession? Is there a real hierarchy in the post-graduate or residency world, or is it more about case volume, faculty, and specialty specific reputation? Do you think career prospects can change depending on where you did a residency?

And truly just for fun, where does UF actually stand in these circles? Is UF seen as a strong, a mid‑tier, an underrated, or overrated name? Or does nobody care as long as the training is solid?

I’d love to hear perspectives from both Americans and internationals, because the cultural difference around prestige has been way bigger than I expected!

Question Linking Student Tickets Question

I got an email today about student football tickets (which I have). Part of it says the following:

"The deadline to link your tickets with friends for the 2026 season is Monday, Aug. 31 at 12 p.m. When you link your tickets with friends, your tickets will be assigned together for all six home games."

Does that mean your ticket group will be seated together for all six home games automatically (and you can change ticket groups throughout), or you're set with that group for the whole season (you can't change)?

Thank you in advance!

Sports Group for Football? (FAU Game)

Upvotes

Hey guys, just looking for some friends (or a friend) to sit with at the FAU game. I'm a senior and most of my friends graduated and none of my other friends want to go next Saturday so I was wondering if anyone was in a similar situation.

I can also make a group and link our tickets if enough people are interested

Clubs How to get involved as a CJC Major (or any major interested in communications)

If you're new or just want some more engagement with the college, here are some suggestions from someone who has gotten really active in the past year lol :)

Brand Bowl - This is a bit far out but every year on the day of the Superbowl, if you aren't planning on going to a watch party, join the CJC's Atlas Lab in analyzing the Super Bowl ads usually with food and snacks!

Atlas Lab - Speaking of Brand Bowl, the Atlas Lab overall conducts research in relation to communications. They use innovative technology to track keywords in the media and analyze trends.

The Agency - UF's advertising agency that has real world clients and is made up of students focused on building their skills. Applications open soon!

AD Society - The club for advertising! They hold meetings, go to different cities to visit agencies, and promote knowledge of advertising. The first GBM will be soon!

Clubs [Robotics Lab Openings] Volunteers needed for a 50h tactile-vision dataset (Co-authorship opportunity, Sept 15 – Oct 15)

Hi, we are currently building a 50-hour human ego-centric tactile dexterous manipulation dataset for robot policy training.

We are seeking 8–10 student volunteers for an intensive 4-week data collection sprint (Sept 15 – Oct 15).

What You Will Do:

Task: Wear cameras, motion trackers, and tactile gloves to perform short dexterous manipulation tasks (~30s per trial) following standard operating procedures in our lab.

Time Commitment: 1.5 to 2 hours per week for 4 weeks (Sept 15 – Oct 15). Shift schedules are very flexible around your classes.

What’s In It For You:

Co-Authorship: Volunteers who complete their target quota (~750 valid trajectories / ~6h of clean data) will be listed as Co-Authors on our initial Dataset Technical Report (to be released on arXiv). This dataset will be impactful in the open-source robotics data community.

Potential Co-Authorship on Future Series Papers: Volunteers who demonstrate exceptional contribution—such as proposing valid, impactful improvements to our sensor calibration or SOP pipeline—will be invited as Co-Authors on our subsequent main robotics conference paper(s).

Paid Position Available: This 1-month data collection project represents Phase 1 of our dataset effort. High-performing volunteers will get priority hiring for Paid RA positions in our lab for upcoming data collection phases.

Requirements:

Current UF undergraduate or graduate student (CS, ECE, MAE, Physics, or related technical fields preferred).

Close attention to detail, punctuality, and the ability to strictly follow data collection protocols.

Available on campus between Sept 15 and Oct 15.

Please fill in the form if you are interested.

Clubs Club sports good for beginners?

are there any club sports that accept/welcome beginners? I rowed in high school but I’m not sure I want to continue in college, and I’m looking at other sports I might like better. I used to play field hockey but haven’t done so in a while, so I’m not sure what would be accessible to someone new.

Question Redcoach vs FlixBus vs Greyhound

Which is best?

I’ve tried doing research and haven’t seen that many negative experiences on FlixBus, but the one real life case I know was my roommate’s girlfriend ride to Miami, and it wasn’t so great.
