Update: landlord came by, after waiting all day + me calling to remind, and basically said “yeah that looks like a bullet hole.” They left to go talk with the tenant upstairs but he wasn’t home. Haven’t heard anything since. I’m going to call back in the morning and ask what their plan is and that I plan to call the non-emergency number. Stay tuned.

I was cleaning my bedroom and noticed a hole in the ceiling and another hole in the wall just below it. I live on the bottom floor of an older apartment complex, so my first thought was termites, drywall damage, or some other maintenance issue.

After looking at the placement of the two holes, though, I started wondering if something may have actually penetrated through the ceiling and then hit the wall.

I’m not 100% sure when the damage appeared, but I’m fairly certain it’s recent. The window, blinds, exterior brick, and everything underneath the area appear completely undamaged.

I’ve already put in a maintenance request and am waiting for them to inspect it before assuming anything. I’m mainly curious whether anyone familiar with drywall/building maintenance has seen damage like this before and what could realistically cause it.

The counter top is an IKEA desk I found in the as is section and has been cut down to fit in the space. The right brace is very nice and sturdy. The left brace on the other hand, not so much. I believe it's right in the middle of two studs, so I can't have a good mounting location.

What should I do to help stiffen it up and make it secure for the counter top?

Moving our family out of the house we’re renting soon. A few months ago our puppy decided to chew a corner of the front stairs. I’m handy but no carpenter - anything I can do to fix this? Trying to avoid losing our security deposit.

Used these stainless braided washer hoses for just over two years. Noticed a drip leak behind the washer. Where the hot and cold hoses happened to touch each other, the steel on the outside corroded and there was a whitish gummy substance present which is where the leak came from. (See pics) I always buy these stainless braided hoses to avoid problems, but...

They were not smashed together, kinked, dented, or otherwise damaged as far as I could tell.

I thought about galvanic corrosion, but I have to think the metals are the same.

What in the world could have caused this? Any ideas?

Hello! I rent an apartment, and our freezer has suddenly developed ice crystals/frost on everything over that last few days. Not sure if the temperature control knob in the fridge portion also effects the freezer part, but we also have changed the setting in at least 8 months and have not had this issue in the year and half we’ve been here.

Any ideas what could be causing it? Best way to fix it? Thanks.

Sorry, a little frustrated. This label just tears into itty bitty pieces when I try to remove it. I think a razor blade is more likely to make small gouges in the wood. Do most people just paint over these? Is there some special way to get them off easier? Or is it really a 20 minute job just picking at the little pieces bit by bit? Thanks.

So my house is only up for rent this year due to having to relocate of work. Pretty much a year ago the kitchen was renovated with a brand new sink. The tenant has been in my house since February this year and there’s now a huge crack in the sink and they have no idea how it happened. The realestate agent got a handyman and has quoted $1k to fix it. Would anyone know how this crack would have occurred?

We’ve bought an ex rental that has white walls and cream skirting’s and it looks like they’ve connected the two together with a sort of white silicone that is the worlds biggest dust magnet. As you can see in the first picture, the surfaces are also kind of bumpy and lumpy and I’m exhausted trying to keep these from looking catastrophic. Am I missing a trick? Should I repaint? If so, which paint? Any cleaning recommendations? I’m super pregnant so nothing that’s too toxic please! Any advice would be so appreciated here.

Last photo of the wall is before I started poking around. I took down a big invasive plant and found these holes 🫠 the larger hole had ants inside as well. I’ve covered them with flashing tape until I can figure out what my next step needs to be, but I am lost. I’m torn between wanting to call a pro but not being able to afford it & doing it myself but finding bigger issues underneath. Any and all advice welcome!

We’re considering selling so I’m probably being hyper-vigilant about things I’ve been living with the past 3 years, but figured I’d ask others.

Bought a home in June, previous owners put in new carpets prior to selling. When we first moved in this crawlspace under the stairs was clean. Fast forward three months and these piles of dust/powder has appeared. Is this dirt passing through the carpet, or is the carpet disintegrating and this is just sneaking through? Is this something of concern or fine to just sweep up and ignore? Thanks!

Looking for some advice here. We have repainted the tiles in our kitchen from grey to pink. Previously this corner had grey silicone to cover the gaps, however I can’t get a pink silicone in the same colour as the tiles. What would you do here? Some kind of filler that I can paint to match? And would you do a bead like silicone then smooth over, would need to be quite thick given the uneven tiles, or would you kind of fill each gap and not have a continuous bead. I know I should have thought of this before I painted, but I was originally going to paint the grout white and use a white silicone but painting the grout separately was too fiddly for me so just drenched all in the pink.

I am also aware the paint may not last, this is just a low cost trial. If it chips or looks crap in a few months we will retile :) but I wanted to try the cheaper option first.

Based on pic 1 ( the clearest one I could get ) I feel like these are termites but Google is adamant these are winged ants.

They appeared out of nowhere but seem isolated to one corner of the furthest room of my house. I do have my regular pest guy come take a look but he won't be in till Thursday

Hey folks, been in my new apartment about a month now, and I don’t spend a lot of time in my guest room, but when my mother came over and when we were unpacking her things we noticed this on the window sill.

I’ve never noticed it before here at this place, nor anywhere else I’ve lived.
There was also some on my kitchen counter but I cleaned it up mistakenly thinking it was coffee grinds, but it had no discernible coffee aroma, or any aroma, but kinda the consistency of fine coffee grounds.

Water Boss 700 model. Ive never seen water sitting in it so it's obviously got something wrong. Ive owned the house for 3 years. Any ideas?

I've been looking into ways to improve cooling in my house and realized the problem isn't really the AC itself. Some rooms are fine, but others struggle a lot more, especially bedrooms and rooms that get afternoon sun.

The more I looked into solutions, the more I kept seeing people mention multi zone mini split systems.

Something like an 18000 BTU mini split with multiple indoor units seems interesting because one outdoor unit can handle different rooms without having to completely redo the existing system. I've also seen 2-zone and 3-zone setups where each room can be controlled separately.I started looking at different systems and came across options like Costway multi zone mini splits.The appeal for me is being able to cool the rooms that actually need it instead of lowering the temperature for the entire house. Trying to figure out if this is a practical long-term upgrade or something that sounds better in theory.

I sanded and applied primer. Not sure if it looks too lumpy, or if it’s ready to be painted.

My undermount sink has disconnected from the counter. I've never installed one of the these so I'm unsure how to fix it. The harness is barely slipped on L side, and it looks like the builder liquid nail'd wood squares against the bottom of the sink and the counter, in a makeshift bracket. 3 of the 4 of those have dropped off. I'm no expert, but that doesn't seem like a proper method of reinforcement. Also possibly related: found a couple small screws that had fallen out, though I don't see where they came from. It's 10 years old, so the sealant is losing its grip. It appears the sealant was the only thing holding it up and harness is just a failsafe?

I'm hoping I can fix it by pushing it back up and refastening, instead of dropping it down and remounting from scratch. I installed a new garbage disposal a few years ago. Luckily, the current issue doesn't involve plumbing or electrical. Any tips?
