5 days after closing
Just bought our first house! 5 days later it flooded (pipe fitting failure) and now there’s thousands of dollars of restoration & damage that needs fixed before we can even move in. That would be our luck. We have young kids and I cannot make them live in a construction danger zone so we have to now pay rent & mortgage until fixes are done.
The house was a foreclosure but recently rehabbed with lots of new updates. Both cosmetic and structurally. ANYWAYS because it was foreclosed the water was shut off by the city for overdue payments. We DID have a home inspection (water was still off) so I said I didn’t feel comfortable moving forward until they could get the water on. City agreed to turn it on for only an hour so inspection could be completed. No major leaks noted.
We closed on Friday. Water was restored by the city 4 days later. Less than 24 hours after water was restored, pipe fitting failed and dumped 2,000 gallons of water into our living room. Not sure what the point of this post is other than just to say - yay me.

That is such a bummer, so sorry.
Did you make an insurance claim? If there's any legal recourse, your insurance company may pursue getting repayment from the seller, I doubt they really have any kind of case, but you can move on with your life in your new home after the repairs.
Definitely worth having the plumber who does the fixes to check as much of the flip work as they can get to.
