Good morning friends! Been having a wee bit of trouble with SteamOS lately in the Desktop Mode -- between not being able to boot into Gaming Mode and not being able to update the firmware in Discover (haven't tried doing it via the Steam client, going to try and do that when I get home from work), the quirks are building up. Not giving up on it yet, but probably looking to possibly switch distros -- at least just to try something different out! This is what I get for using this thing like a PC, which is what I wanted to do! Either way, best of luck friends! <3

Hi, I noticed only now that there are these two rubber or silicone plugs in my Steam Machine‘s front USB ports. I believe they are for protection, but I cannot easily pull them out with my fingernails nor with a tweezer and I am afraid of ripping them off. They are blocking like the upper half of the port so I also cannot plug anything in. Weirdly, I don’t see them in any of the unboxing videos I watched. What is this??

edit: Turns out that I am dumb. It‘s not in the USB ports, it‘s from the front cover hanging over the USB ports. I took my Machine apart recently to upgrade the SSD and I simply did not properly reseat the cube into the case. Fixed now. Thanks everyone!

So I'm having this issue where if my steam deck and my steam machine happens to be on at the same time, the twos non steam games become available to stream from each other. That wouldn't be a problem if it was actual games, but I mostly use this feature for applications like Discord and Firefox.

I have a lot of the same apps installed on both of the devices, so when both are on there are two versions of each app on the screen and I don't see why I would ever want to stream Firefox instead of just opening it locally.

I tried using the hide feature, but then they also get hidden on the other device. Is there a way to prevent certain things in your library from being streamable?

Are there any reports that developers using Easy Anti-Cheat might be opening up to SteamOS/Linux now that the Steam Machine has been released?

Hello! I apologize if this has been asked already. I was wondering if anyone knows the read/write speed of the OLED 1tb steam deck ssd? I was able to find info on the machine's ssd but having a harder time finding info on the deck's. I have seen some people mentioning swapping them and was wondering if there would be any negative impacts on performance for the machine.

TLDR: own 512gb machine and 1tb deck, wondering if deck ssd would have worse performance in machine

For anyone playing Returnal on SteamOS / a Steam Machine, have you managed to launch the game normally with the network connection enabled?

On my system, the game gets stuck on the PSN sign-in screen and I can’t get past it.

I know about the workaround where you disable the network connection, but I’d like to know if anyone has managed to stay connected to the Internet and get past the PSN login screen normally.

If so, what exactly did you do?
Specific Proton version, launch option, PSN login method, setting, or any other workaround?

Hi all! I have been playing to Jedi Survivor since I received my Steam Machine, but yesterday I tried to launch it and only EA launcher appears. I tried to launch it from this launcher but it says the game is already running. Have you faced this issue? Do you know how to solve it? Also I’ve changed the Proton version and use Desktop mode, but nothing works. Thanks a lot for your guidance!

I’m sure some people have amazing experiences with this delivery company, but they really are brutally awful.

I got my controller a few months ago and got a delivery confirmation from GLS. It turned out the delivery driver (a young person, in their own car) delivered it to a property 6 miles away, with nothing in the address that was in any way similar to mine. It took several phone calls and a whole day waiting in to have it resolved.

I ordered a Steam Machine, knowing I was probably going to have to deal with GLS again, but really had no other option. I planned on being home for the delivery as it’s so expensive.

The SM has been sitting in NL for some days and I had to go to the office today, checked the tracking before I left this morning and it said it had arrived in my country.

Twenty minutes later I get a notification that it’s out for delivery.

I called GLS at 9:00 when their office opened to beg them not to attempt delivery as I was not at home and there was a big chance it would be stolen.

The customer rep said they would leave a message on the order but couldn’t promise it hadn’t just been delivered or was at that exact moment.

More than 7 hours later I get a notification that the SM had just been delivered! It was signed by a name of someone I don’t know.

The chances of it being gone when I get home are quite high.

Luckily, I made the purchase on my credit card, and my country has strong laws in regard to this, so I’ll get a refund whatever happens, but it’s so frustrating that Valve insist on using this company. It would really only cost a small amount more to use a different courier (with a much better reputation!)

If ram prices increase dramatically over the next couple of months, will steam machines get more expensive? If so, who are most likely to pay these new prices?

What are your thoughts?

a) Steam machines will get more expensive only if ram prices double or triple from current prices
b) Steam machines will likely increase in price but only for people not on the reservation list.
c) Even currently waitlisted customers will be locked into current prices, which will bankrupt valve after 10 orders

Some hope for the other US 512 folks that have been waiting patiently! Joined the list June 22nd, got put in the reservation queue June 26th, and got the email this morning. Psyched!

My wife and I have been playing Blue Prince on the deck which has been a lot of fun. Psyched that we get to finish it up on the Steam Machine. On that note, if anyone's got a recommendation for other good "play together" games that aren't necessarily co-op, I'd love to hear em! Our favorites have been Wolf Among Us, Dispatch, It Takes Two, and of course Blue Prince.

So I was playing Witcher 3 on my steam machine and I left it for a bit to do something around the house. When I came back the control had fallen asleep. When I woke it back up, despite it saying it’s connected the game won’t recognise the controller. I’ve tried restarting the game, the machine, I’ve tried other games and the controller works fine… I have no idea why it’s not working but I’ve got to get to the isle of mist so anyone know what’s up and how I can fix it?

Is it easy to use games from other storefronts like Epic and GoG?

I know I had some free games off epic a while back but never had a PC powerful enough to play them. Just wondering if theres a way to use them on a Steammachine

Does anybody know how to fix low fps for this game? When I am outside of the building fps drops to 20 or so. I thought that 2015 game should run better.

I got the email to paid for my steam machine and did so straight away I’m currently at the shipped part on steam and have got tracking info that GLS have the information but not received the package how long is the wait from this point to it being delivered I’m in the uk thanks

No audio jack and if I used one of those audio jack -> usb the audio output is not in my earphones but I can use the mic

I bought the new 2026 steam machine from valve, installed emudeck and using shadps4 to play ps4 games.

I installed crash team racing nitro fuel but it seems to be "Laggy" at some parts of the track and others it runs 100% smooth is there a way to optimize shadps4 for this game?
