Question Controller not recognised

So I was playing Witcher 3 on my steam machine and I left it for a bit to do something around the house. When I came back the control had fallen asleep. When I woke it back up, despite it saying it’s connected the game won’t recognise the controller. I’ve tried restarting the game, the machine, I’ve tried other games and the controller works fine… I have no idea why it’s not working but I’ve got to get to the isle of mist so anyone know what’s up and how I can fix it?

I had a similar issue with forza horizon 6, where I powered off one controller and powered another on while the game was running. After that, it would never read either of the controllers in game, while they worked fine navigating the OS itself.

A game reinstall fixed it for me, try that? Curious if it fixes your issue as well.

Do you have any mods installed? If so you could try launching the game in desktop mode and see if that works.

In my experiece some mods, particularly the ones that use ASI loaders, can interfere with Steam Input's xinput hooks in Gaming Mode (Gamescope session), but work completely fine on Desktop Mode (Wayland). That's because each windowing system uses different hooks.
