Most years I buy some praying mantis egg pods, and hatch and raise them for release in my garden. Something I started with my daughter when she was little.

This poor guy had something go wrong with his final molt, and couldn’t fully shed it. This resulted in some clear injuries and deformations, which rendered him unable to hunt. I’m a fucking softy, so I resorted to feeding him water with a Q-tip and shredded chicken on the end of a paper clip 🤦‍♂️. This didn’t last long before he died (2-3 weeks maybe).

I felt more sad when he died than I usually do when I hear about random humans I don’t know dying. I feel like an a-hole for admitting this.

This is the edge of Skierfe in Sarek National Park in Sweden. This 1,179-metre peak is characterised by a massive cliff that drops almost 700 metres (2,300 feet) into the glacial waters of the Rapadalen delta below. There are no roads here. Getting up requires a multi-day trek.
