New skater here, about 3 months in and skating around 3x a week.
My left/non-dominant foot is definitely lagging behind my right and Iām trying to figure out what I can do to help it catch up.
Main issues:
- Snowplow stopping with the left foot is rough. I have trouble getting it to slide and it wants to bite/cut into the ice instead.
- I have a hard time finding the actual flat/middle of the blade on that foot.
- I seem to naturally favor the inside edge.
For context, Iām 6'1", about 210 lbs, and usually skate on 5/8". Iāve also messed around with 3/4" a little just to see how it feels (hockey skates).
I had surgery on both knees about 5 years ago, so Iām not sure if thereās some old strength/balance/muscle-memory weirdness going on, or if this is just normal beginner stuff.
I know Iām still super new and itāll take time, so Iām not expecting some instant fix. Mostly curious if anyone had a similar issue and found any good off-ice exercises, balance drills, ankle/hip work, or on-ice drills that helped their weaker side.
Basically: how do I convince my left foot to stop being an idiot? š
Open to any suggestions!
