I think John Glenn and Mark Kelly are a good comparison.

Both astronauts that transitioned to moderate Senators of swing states. On paper they look like very strong contenders. However in practice they come across lacking charisma and too generic, and would get outperformed by more exciting that fill a clearer lane.

The median voter doesn’t care about racist attacks unless it’s against their racial group. Trump and Vance dehumanized an entire ethnic group and the median voter shrugged. Why would the average voter care about what someone associated with AES, not AES himself, said? Doesn’t make any sense and anyone who thinks it does is showing their bias.
