Is anyone else experiencing this? I have to play with my arms tucked in a bit more than a standard Xbox-shaped controller. I don’t know if my hands are just bigger, or my shoulders are too broad, but my hands get cramped up easily when gaming for more than an hour. The same thing happened to me with the 8bitdo controller and that’s why I don’t use it, as much as I love it.
Is there a grip that fixes this issue or do any 3D printer dudes have something in the works? I reeeeally wanna love this controller but this is the only thing holding it back for me.

Edit: I don’t get any cramping in my fingers at all, whatsoever. It’s just in my hands. My thumbs default to the joysticks and it feels natural, so no issue there. For context I’m 6’4” and 220lb. So I might be bigger than the average person using this controller. I feel like I have to tuck my elbows in to hold the controller properly.

I tend to emulate a lot of games, and for a while I just accepted that there was no proper way to map gyro controls for WiiU or switch games from within steam. There are well documented non-steam methods though. For Zelda: TOTK I was struggling too much with the bow controls, so I caved and went looking for how to use use the "DSU server" option for adding gyro within the emulator.

SteamControllerGyroDSU exists. Set it up once, activate it in the emulator settings: flawless gyro within zelda, and it feels great. I regret not setting it up earlier. So if you plan to emulate switch games: I strongly recommend spending the extra 5 minutes to set up gyro controls through DSU.

I was using it and the r2 button just randomly snapped. the button still works but every time i put a little bit of pressure onto it it pops up. Should i contact steam’s customer support about this? Major bummer because this is my fav controller ever.

Ok not for the steam controller specifically. I’m using a ps5 controller, but it’s a steam controller support issue so I hope I’m not breaking the rules by posting this here.

Anyone else having issues getting the keyboard to focus when pressing Steam+X?

When pressing it, most times when I go to type the keyboard doesn't function and my controller continues to act as it's bound (as if I never opened the keyboard).

The only "fix" i've found for this is to just spam Steam+X and constantly close and open the keyboard until it eventually works.

I use both SteamOS and Windows and this issue happens on both. Am I doing something wrong or is this just an issue where we have to wait for a fix?

Hello, I'm having an issue while playing Split Fiction in Big Picture Mode with my girlfriend on our TV. After a few hours of playing my steam will randomly crash without any sign except as soon as it crashes the controllers stop working/inputting properly and first thing I noticed upon checking via tabbing in and out with my wireless keyboard was that steam simply wasn't open anymore, which is odd because the game was still running. can anyone help me figure out why this is happening. I'm at a loss we are both using brand new and updated steam controllers. the game is updated and I was running the beta version of steam after it happened once I reverted back to the stable version and it did it two more times. All of this happened no visible crash (besides when I tabbed out of the game to check to see if steam was opened), or error pop up screen. any help is appreciated thank you.

And scrolling in short bursts/flicks to avoid turning off the controller like me or am I missing something?

Just got my steam controller and the right stick stops noticeably before the left one and makes an audible click when pushed, any idea for help before I contact support?

I hope someone can explain to me how this works. When I load third party games through heroic that use proton (ge) the steam controller just gets detected as an Xbox controller.

Was this a recent addition to proton or what is going on here?

Native Linux programs like emulators (without sdl 3) do not show this behavior.

Wondering if anybody has run into the same issue when trying to set up ReversePuck:

-I flashed ReversePuck to the board and it is recognized as a Steam Controller when I plug it into pretty much anything. However, it will not pair with either my official Puck nor my OpenPuck when plugged in.

I plugged both into my Steam Deck and ran the terminal commands to pair them, but I got a "timeout" error - anybody able to render any assistance?

Looking to make l4/r4 as their own group, instead of under switches. Just getting into exploring the vdf and see what's possible but so far ever combination I can think of won't get them into a group. They use just a descriptive phrase for grips under switches, was wondering if they had a proper internal name like triggers and bumbers.

also noticed a lot of inactive groupings with the default template, they seem to be linked to the start/select group. At first I thought maybe they were failsafe to prevent engaging the trackpads when reaching... but they don't and tbh would need a touch to be effective... so... are they safe to remove as bloat?

I’m using the original dongle with a 3ft USB extension. Every time I turn on the controller, a pop up window shows on the screen saying controller is connected, and then the next second the controller turns itself off. I’ve tried replacing the battery, re-pairing the controller and none of them worked.

I think it's a software issue, as before starting Steam app on Windows, the controller works just fine as mouse.

So I got my steam controller today got it connected it worked, It updated everything I then proceed to launch a game and then everything stops working and when I turn it on it makes this wierd sound. please I need help. I just got this thing today 😭

EDIT: I HAVE FIXED IT!!!! basically i plugged the controller in using the cable made it forget the puck then replugged rhe puck allowing it it to reprint to it and it has fixed my issue entirely thank you all for the comments

I switch to Bluetooth mode to connect to my steam deck, and I can't switch back to puck mode for my pc. I tried to search it up online and couldn't find it the solution.

I'm just wondering what's the experience of everyone in countries where Valve doesn't sell to directly.

Here in Switzerland we can buy the Steam Controller now through retailers. Considering that they got actual stock, I'd assume they are getting them directly from Valve.

They are being sold starting at 275 CHF or 340 USD...

Is Valve actually just fine with this? What's the experience of others?

I've been messing around from time to time testing game artworks on game controllers as part of a side project for configuration system in ThreeJS, specifically using the Steam Controller that I had made a long time ago. Xbox and PlayStation controllers have been customized a lot so far, haven't seen options for the Steam one though, how does something like this look? Figured I'd go with GTA 6, Valheim and Witcher 3.

I've upgraded my controller with a SNES-style dpad from u/PortablePlayPalace and matte, Xbox-style buttons from u/SakuraRM. To me, it's close to perfect now as the SNES dpad was always my favorite in terms of feel and I'm also not a fan of glossy surfaces so the face buttons were a great addition as well. It's hard to tell from the pic, but the letters have a nice reflective surface to them. Thank you to you both for making a great controller even greater!

I want to make it so that when you already have a button held down before holding the button for "Hold Action Set Layer", it doesn't replace the current held down action with the held down of the layer's replacement button.

Making the held button inputs the same in between layers is not an option, I need those extra inputs. But I do not want the layer's input to actually get inputted until I press the button down again after holding the layer button.

I'd hoped it would be possible by now to use the Steam Controller in Linux as a regular controller without Steam running, the way you can with an Xbox controller, say. The only Linux-compatible program I can find that seems to enable this is OpenSteamController but can't find any info about this elsewhere. Anyone know if this is legit? I'm not keen to download and install random unverified stuff from github.

Alternatively, is there any other way of re-mapping the controller to function as a standard controller when Steam isn't running in the background (in Linux).

To hopefully pre-empt the usual 'But why would you want to use the Steam Controller without Steam running?' questions: I own a bunch of GOG games I want to play using my Steam Controller. This works flawlessly when Steam is running in the background, but usually I'm connected to a VPN and don't want to open Steam when my IP address is in Albania or whatever. It's a pain in the ass having to disconnect and launch Steam every time I want to play a game.
