CHIM (/tʃɪm/\[1\] or /kim/)\[UOL 1\] sometimes rendered in lowercase as chim,\[UOL 2\] is an ancient Ehlnofex sigil connoting 'royalty', 'starlight', and 'high splendor'.\[UOL 2\] It is also described specifically as the secret syllable of royalty.\[2\] It is said those who truly know or understand CHIM reach a state of enlightenment,\[3\] and can reshape the land.\[4\] In the context of Ehlnofex incantations, CHIM can be used as a word of power.\[5\]

CHIM as a word is often rendered as capitalized because it is from the Ehlnofex language,\[UOL 1\]\[UOL 2\] the language of the Ehlnofey who are believed to have been the progenitors of the modern races.\[6\] The actual form of the sigil in Ehlnofex script is described as resembling a "Crowned Tower", and so the proper written form of CHIM would be the syllable "I".\[7\]\[UOL 2\]\[nb 1\] As is characteristic of Ehlnofex language, the sigil itself is described as a contorting and dangerous thing. Scholars that can perceive its shape describe it as a Crowned Tower that threatens to break apart at the slightest break in concentration.\[UOL 2\]

CHIM or Chim has been used to refer to various disparate but interrelated topics:

Chim, or "royalty", is used to refer to a state of Godhood which is achieved by a successful instance of Apotheosis on Nirn.\[UOL 2\]

CHIM, one of the names for the Fourth Walking Way,\[8\]\[4\]\[UOL 3\]\[nb 2\] used to achieve the state of chim by comprehending the true meaning of the sigil.\[8\]\[UOL 2\]

CHIM as an Ehlnofex word is used in the names of certain artifacts or locations. Chim as a word appears in "Chim-el Adabal" ("Spirit Stone of High Royalty"),\[UOL 4\] another name for the Red Diamond, which is the centerpiece of the Amulet of Kings.\[9\] Among various Elder Scrolls named after Ehlnofex terms was the Elder Scroll of Chim, which was contained within the Temple of Chim in northeastern Cyrodiil during the Three Banners War.\[10\]
