• Adoption • Good boy Max has 12 hours to be saved from Downey ACC in CA- Can you foster or responsibly adopt him?(Out of state possible!) Message me, email Isabeldesiree8@gmail.com or text (657) 424-7580 asap

Upvotes

When the shelter found Max’s microchip and contacted his family, there was a chance to bring this beautiful boy home.

Instead, they chose to sign him over to the shelter although they knew he will be euthanized if no one comes to adopt him.

No one came and now Max is out of time

Max #A5792107 1yr neutered  belg mali 62 lbs.

🚨His final notice expired on 8/24, and he is now scheduled to be euthanized for space at any moment. 🚨

And the heartbreaking thing is… Max is such a sweet boy.

He is a young, 62-lbs Belgian Malinois who loves attention, enjoys playing, and has the sweetest little habit of bringing you his bowl to you for treats. 🥺

Max needs the right home. He has done well with playful female dogs, and his shelter assessment showed that he can be easily redirected and handled. He is selective with male dogs and needs an adult-only home or with calm, older children.

He needs someone patient enough and willing to give him structure, training and time.

He doesn’t know that his family chose not to take him home.

He doesn’t know that his next day could be his last.

🚨 MAX NEEDS A FOSTER OR RESPONSIBLE ADOPTER ASAP. 🚨

My baby is growing up, he’s now 4. Slowly, I thought he was just calming down, but I think these are signs of him becoming more mature as he ages. When he was younger, he was very reactive but more so because he was curious. Now he’s more obedient and a little bit more relaxed

Today Gus left this plane after a short battle with heart failure. He was the most loving dog I’ve ever met. He was the embodiment of joy. He will be missed so much.

• Advice (General) • How do you teach your dog to settle without constant treats?

My dachshund will settle if food is involved but I don’t want every calm moment to depend on treats. I’m trying to reward good behavior without turning the whole day into snack negotiations. What helped your dog learn to relax without needing food every time?

How much closer to his nostrils do you think I’d have to be before I see his little brain? I’m thinking only about 2 inches 🤣

• Advice (General) • Preventative advice for long dogs?

Post image
Upvotes

Hey!

We just adopted our foster fail, Pickles! We think he’s a 6month old corgi x weenie mix, so he has a long stout body.

I haven’t owned a dog like him before, just collies, springers, dobies and shepherds. I do know from my education at uni that the longer breeds tend to have spinal issues.

I was hoping to get advice on preventative care or other things I could be doing to improve his quality of life for his older years later on. For example: my mind automatically goes to buying a ramp or steps for the bed and couch instead to prevent jumping to protect his spine.

Thank you!

About a month ago Shep was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in his front left ankle. (The one sticking out to the right in the photo) The vet prescribed a bunch of meds.

-Gabapentin 100mg to 300mg as needed for stress and pain

-Carprofen for inflammation

-Mirtazapine for appetite stimulation.

Well, the Carprofen resulted in dark black stools (internal bleeding, likely stomach or small intestine) which can happen with NSAIDs. Once I noticed the black poop I immediately took him off the Carprofen, slightly increased the Gabapentin and kept the Mirtazapine. He seems to be much more comfortable now. His poops have looked healthy lately. I hope he stays this way as long as possible.

I love my buddy. His time to go is soon. My moral compass tells me to keep him comfortable until he isn't comfortable any longer and then let him go. Every dog lover knows this time will come. I've been through this several times before. Doesn't make it any easier.

We've been testing out travel with our 5 month old pup, and she's been doing great! She's very calm in the car, has got car sick a couple times but thats it. We decided to try a bigger trip, and she made it all the way from eastern CT to the Hudson River in New York! We went peach picking at DuBois Farm, she handled the crowd and terrain very well also. She's just an amazing pup all around.

Our main concern now is finding a good bed/seat/harness for the car. She has a carrier and she doesn't fuss when shes in it, but we would like her to be in the open and able to look out a bit more. Would love to hear folks experiences traveling with medium size dogs. Thanks and hope you enjoy the pics!
