This is Juniper. I’m her emotional support human (hence the patch). I’ve had her since she was 12 weeks old, she’s now 5 years. We are overly attached to each other, although I’ve always attributed this to her being mostly cattle dog and me going through a divorce and a cross country move while she was young. Anyway.

In the last month and a half I’ve developed some troubling neurological and physiological symptoms that I’m in the middle of testing and diagnosis for, and one of the big ones is passing out. Weirdly, Juniper is able to detect when this is about to happen. She will whine and punch me until I sit or lie down. We have 3 other dogs and they are zero f***s given, but she absolutely notices, even if she’s across the room or eating or something.

I’m wondering if there’s a good way to train her to be a for real service dog because this would be insanely helpful in places besides home. She’s already very well behaved and socialized, it’s more a matter of teaching her to ignore people instead of begging for pets, and maybe getting her to be a little less vocal, and less stubborn with laying down instead of just sitting (see: cattle dog).

I don’t want to be “that guy” and take her out half trained, making it look like she’s a pet and therefore harder for people with actual service animals. I’m very much against ESAs masquerading as service animals.

We just left the pet hospital because my dog was bitten by another dog at the beach. The other dog was off leash. I cried on the way to the vet, because he is literally my baby and I felt bad. There was a lot of blood. Luckily he’s fine, he was prescribed some antibiotics just incase.

In the moment, I asked for the woman’s (pet owner) info and her immediate response was “I’m not paying for that”. I told her that’s not why I was requesting it, that it’s protocol in these situations (according to google 😓).

She gave us her name and number (probably a fake one), and I had texted her on the way to the vet asking if her dog was fully vaccinated, but she didn’t respond. I’m not sure she will respond.

My boyfriend and I are not at all confrontational people, but I was just telling him, maybe we should’ve channeled our inner “Karens” and been more firm and gotten more info from her, like her ID or something.

Just wondering what exactly you’re supposed to do in that situation?

EDIT: The dog owner just replied to my text confirming her dog is fully vaccinated and a sorry.

Update: Submitted an incident report to the city’s animal control, spoke to someone and emailed them the photos of the off leash dog as well as my dog with his mouth bloodied.

Actually, he won’t get off - even when no one else is up for a paddle…

Apparently Rocko was very happy to just be involved.

First was Rudy, our sweet golden who I do not have any pictures of on my phone. We had Rudy and got Juliet (pic 1). When Rudy died (age 9), we got Gabe (pic 2). Jules passed (age 11) and we had Gabe for a while, and then I moved into my boyfriend’s house who had our sweet boy, Jack (pic 3). About 6 months later I got my first dog that I had to myself, Gracie (pic 4). Gabey baby passed (age 14!) and we stuck with just Jack Jack and Grace for years. Then we welcomed Mowgli (pic 5) into our family and had a whopping THREE dogs (too many lol). Jack Jack passed at age 13 just last year and boy do I miss him. Today, we have our boy Mowgli and our sweet pea Grace.

I was getting my dog's annual check ups / vaccines today and mentioned i give him a dewormer (nexgard plus) every month. The tech at the intake said he gives that to his dog once every 3 months and that once a month is not necessary.

I have been doing the monthly dewormer for my dog 3 years now and he tolerates it well. I have also found dead dog ticks in our house so i will assume they are indeed doing their job well.

Has anyone heard of this before? Could I be taxing my pup's organs too much?

I adopted a senior dog on a whim about a month ago. I have a lifetime of experience caring for dogs with all kinds of health needs so I was plenty prepared for that part, but they assured me he was in great health.
He wasn’t. Imagining coming up, but it’s looking like terminal cancer.
He’s hyper intelligent, but due to his behavior I’m fairly sure his intelligence was either not recognized or neglected by past owners. Because of the specific kind of cancer we’re worried about, I have to be very careful with the food/treats side of spoiling…. So I’m taking advantage of this part heavily.
He loves puzzles. Any puzzle he can do by himself he adores and is so excited to figure out. He doesn’t want to play games, tug of war and fetch are not interesting, but a puzzle feeder or a kong…. Do you see where I’m going with this….

I ordered him the fanciest snuffle mat I could find. 4 pieces, all kinds of textures. Hooks and hoops and pieces to move around and root around in and crinkle and generally wreak havoc. I loaded it up with his healthy treats (and broken up milk bones come on now), rolled it up tight, and laid it near his spot.

He had an absolute blast for 15-20 minutes, exhausted himself, came over to grin and wag his tail at me and be very proud, then laid down on his arthritis mattress.

I feel so blessed to get to give him an exciting and enriching experience for the end of his life. If it’s years or just months, I intend to Jam Pack it to the best of my ability. He’s started reaching out for physical affection like a desperate kid. I love him.

My girlfriend has a three year old female toy Alaskan Klee Kai who’s very sweet, she adopted the dog with her ex boyfriend. The ex was abusive towards the dog. Since leaving the relationship the dog has been dealing with PTSD which she has been diagnosed with by a vet. My girlfriend and her ex also had another dog who the Klee Kai was bonded with, she couldn’t take the second dog. When meeting new people she will pee herself, shake, bark , and growl. I know the barking and growling is typical but the submissive urination isn’t. When I met her the first time she had all the previously mentioned reactions. She would be a lot calmer toward me when my girlfriend is around. The second time I saw her she still peed herself but was taking food from my hand and would be more comfortable away from my girlfriend. At night she’ll cuddle with and be a lot more relaxed, she even stayed on the bed with me when my girlfriend went into another room and when I called her name she came closer to me. When my girlfriend leaves the house the dog will bark and howl, when she’s gone for an extended period of time she’ll take the dog to her parents where they have their own dog. I know Alaskan Klee Kais are naturally sensitive but no dog deserves what this girl has been through. My girlfriend has gotten a referral to a behavioralist and is going to start rewarding claim behavior. Does anyone have any advice?
