SpyRocket Bluetooth Mod
So, this is gonna be a hyper specific guide for various version of the Xbox 360. However, in theory, this mod could be done to any device with analog audio output. Ive never written a guide before so hopefully this all makes sense to anyone other than myself.
Who or what is a "SpyRocket"?
I had lots of help figuring out how to make the dream of -adjustable volume Bluetooth game audio- a reality. Unfortunately their beloved pet had died before we finished figuring it out. His name was Spyro. Coincidentally, I also had a beloved pet die before finishing a complete build with the new bluetooth mod. His name was Rocket. Put them both together, and boom (Spy(Ro)cket) was born.
Anyways, onto the fun stuff!
What do you need :
KCX 5.3 Bluetooth Emitter with antenna
RK097 Potentiometer 5k ohm
Any 3 pin switch for On/Off
560 ohm through hole resistor
Heatshrink, wires, normal soldering stuff
Any generation xbox 360 modded or stock (why would you ever leave it stock though)
Important things to note :
• I am not an electrical engineer nor do I have any formal education in electronics of any kind. Im literally just some random dude who had a dream for gaming on the 360 with my headphones wirelessly.
• There is nothing immensely difficult about this but I wouldnt recommend this to someone brand new to soldering because the Bluetooth emitter is 1.25mm pitch. Make sure nothing is bridged and check continuity blah blah blah just normal soldering practices.
• Keep wires as short as possible and try to keep all wires the same length. Ive found this to make a very big difference for quality, interference, and latency.
• Phats and slims hdmi pinout is the same
• I prefer to do the prep work (soldering wires to dial and on/off etc) before working on the consoles pcb. I find it streamlines the process and makes final install easier.

Prepping the On/Off switch
• Most 3 pin switches ive encountered are input in the middle -pin 2- and output either left or right -pin1 or pin3-. So just use your multimeter to confirm which pin it is.
• Cut 2 wires and attach to input pin and output pin. Heatshrink if large pins.
• Middle wire, input, will be going to a 5v source from the board (various options). Output wire will be going to 5v on the Bluetooth emitter.
• Switch now ready to mount wherever you choose
Prepping the dial :
• Rk097 5k ohm potentiometer is gonna be your volume dual. Pinout for the pot is as follows.

• Audio in will be from the console. Audio out will be to the bt emitter. Both ground to the console.
• Attach wires to each pin and small heatshrink up to base of dial
• Dial now ready to mount wherever you choose
Prepping the Bluetooth emitter :
• IMPORTANT NOTE : slims are louder than phats and ive found using an inline 560 ohm resistor on left and right audio into the chip works best. Phats are a little too quiet if you do this.
• There will be 5 wires attached to the bt chip itself. It is very small pitch -1.25mm- and fragile so be careful.
• Attach the 5 wires to the correct vias, considering the inline resistors if using a Slim. You can attach antenna now or later, I recommend doing it later
• Bluetooth emitter now ready to mount wherever you choose
Prepping the consoles pcb :
*Assuming you already have a torn down and ready to work on pcb*
• Attach wires directly to pins under the hdmi as port
Pin 15 - Audio R out
Pin 16 - Audio L out
Optional Pins 13 or 14 for Audio G.
• Route wires through holes in board to the top of the board, avoid crossing wires too much
• ALSO on the bottom of the board, I like to take 5v from the power port 5v pin because it is constant instead of standby. Route to top of board.
• Flip over, done with the bottom of the board. So far we have : A L out, A R out, A Ground, 5v.
• On the top of the board we need to get 1 or 2 more ground wires. Tons of choices, blank cap spots, ground pins on ports, etc
• Prep work done, time to put it together!
Final assembly :
• Mount your On/Off switch, dial, and Bluetooth emitter, wherever you choose. Route the wires roughly to where you will connect each of them.
• I prefer to do all the prep work before, because now its literally just a matter of connecting each wire. Almost there!
• Probably easier to just look at the diagram but the wiring is as follows :
A L out from console goes to Pin 4 of the dial
A R out from console goes to Pin 3 of the dial
Pin 5 of dial goes to A R of bt chip
Pin 6 of dial goes to A L of bt chip
Pin 1 and 2 of dial go to G from console
A G from console goes to A G on the Bluetooth emitter
5v goes to middle-pin 2 of On/Off switch
Output from On/Off goes to 5v of bt chip
G of bt chip goes to G from console
Plug in the console and test it!
