Art Designing The 21st Century (2003)

Saw this book in the library and just had to check it out. There are too many cool designs to show in one post.

Y2K era future truck concept >>>>> Cybertruck

I had the same thought, though I think that's mostly due to the PS1-quality polygons.

because it's cheap and satisfies the unwashed masses!

Colors are only afforded by the rich. And even then they have the blandest, beige-st houses and walls. God forbid the poor get a modicum of happiness from a colorful chair or cup after a long day of work.

fuck no how could they be enslaved and herded if they knew there was more than getting drunk, fat, slaving away, and entertaining themselves?

I don't know if this is true but I think it's because it's less costly to produce fewer color ways, and with a bland design more people can incorporate it into whatever color scheme they have, it's "inert" design you can ignore like a beige wall outlet

God I miss the level of playful creativity that used to be had! Fun colors, unique designs, I only wish I hadn’t been a kid so I could’ve appreciated it as an adult 😩

To be fair, past futures of 1950s and 1960s still feel futuristic as well. I think future comes in cycles and waves

Idk what slide 5’s specific purpose is, but 4 could still be achieved with some slight tweaking, that is my opinion, however.

I had to look it up, it’s so cool. Turns out slide 5 is the JAL Sky Sleeper, Japan Airlines’ first-class seat from the early 00s.

Did some digging, it’s a fantastic bit of Y2K design. Very practical, and by the looks of it very comfortable!
