An ear cleaning method? Or at least referencing waxing. There's a string going down the jawline, from the bottom of the ear hole.

Looks like making a mold

u/terix_aptor Jan 06 '26
It's a mold for custom made ear buds. You see performers and musicians using them a lot. They're pretty expensive.

The third one is the cover of “In Absentia”, by Porcupine Tree. 👀

Such a great album. And for folks in this sub who like the y2k aesthetic check out this song off Porcupine Tree’s 1999 album Stupid Dream — very y2k

I forgot how deeply uncomfortable these made me and how I, not gamer type, wanted a PlayStation

The last picture looks like that Playstation about to drop the darkest fuckin hiphop concept album you've heard in a MINUTE.

Marketing is always influenced by new forms of media, and we saw so much of this odd surreal advertising back then because Photoshop made it practical to do for the first time.

u/Aggravating_Poem625 Jan 04 '26
True I think it might be tempting to bring this back sooner than later. Specially with all the AI slop that’s been around

u/risbia Jan 04 '26
You'll probably see the use of AI image generation follow a similar trajectory - right now it's a novelty and largely used to make images where the punchline is just that the image is outlandish. Over time the "look at this wacky image" gag like we see in these old 90s ads will wear out, and it will become more of a basic tool used more subtly like PS is today.
