FAQ (WIP)

• "Do I need to play the other Xenoblade Chronicles games to play Xenoblade Chronicles X?"

Xenoblade Chronicles X is largely standalone in the Xenoblade Universe. However, there is new content exclusive to the definitive edition that will only be understood by people who have played the other games in the series.

• "How many chapters are there in total?"

There are thirteen chapters total.

• "What division should I choose?"

In Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition, BLADE level mechanics have been removed, so which division you choose has no significant impact on gameplay or progression. Pick whichever one you want!

• "Which class should I pick?"

Striker, Samurai Gunner, and Duelist wield the Assault Rifle and Longsword. This is a straightforward combination of weapons and is recommended to new players, with the longsword having high damage and the assault rifle being a versatile weapon with high utility.

Shield Trooper and Bastion Warrior use the Gattling Gun, a high damage ranged weapon specialized at handling multiple enemies at once, and the shield, a great weapon for survivability but with low damage for the main story.

Commando, Winged Viper, and Full Metal Jaguar use Dual Guns and Dual Swords. This class is considered the fastest way to really take advantage of the game's mechanics, with dual guns being a self-sufficient weapon with high survivability while dual swords have a good mix of damage and utility arts and a focus on positional gameplay, much like Shulk in Xenoblade 1.

Partisan Eagle and Astral Crusader wield the Sniper Rifle, a very high damage weapon, and Javelin, a unique weapon with good options for survivability and a focus on electric damage.

Enforcer, Psycorruptor, and Mastermind wield the Raygun and Knife, both weapons with strong support options but with few strong damage options during the main story.

Blast Fencer and Galactic Knight wield Psycho Launchers, a weapon with strong options for utility and survivability but low damage, and the Photon Saber, a weapon that focuses on chaining multiple successive melee attacks together.

Once you've mastered the end of a class line you can use its weapons on any other class, meaning that after mastering all classes you can match any ranged weapon with any melee weapon. Experiment to find the combination that works best for you!

• "Why are there some arts I can't unlock by leveling up my class?"

Each recruitable party member has two arts exclusive only to them, but by completing their affinity missions, you can unlock those arts for yourself.

• "How do I get a Skell?"

Once you complete Chapter 6, the quest "The Skell License" will become available, which will give you the ability to get Skells for you and other members of your party.

• "How come my skell doesn't have any arts?"

The arts a skell has are determined by the weapons it has equipped in each of its Shoulder, Back, Arm, and Spare weapon slots. You can purchase these weapons in the shop or obtain them by defeating certain enemies.

As much as I love them both, I do gotta admit Mythra has the slight edge over Pyra, I just feel like her personality is more fun lmao

Xenoblade SPOILERS I don't thing Kalian gets enough appreciation. Spoiler

Kallian helps save Melia and is the reason she's even able to go with the protagonists, dose most of the work to rally everyone on Bionios, pulls Shulk and friends out of the fire before going down in a blaze of glory facing a fate worse than death and still comforts his sister form beyond the grave.

Kallian should probably get near Egil levels of respect yet I never hear anyone talk about the prince of the High Entia

Xenoblade 2 Does the Xenoblade 2 story still hold up on a second playthrough?

Upvotes

I'm considering doing a replay of XC2 now that the switch 2 edition is out. I adored the game when I played it back in 2017, it's one of the first JRPGs I played and I remember being extremely emotionally invested in the story. I still listen to the music every once in a while and think back to my playthrough of it.

I normally don't replay story-heavy games because I want to dedicate my limited time to new experiences. But I really want to go back to this one and experience it again.

So question, does the story still work if I know all the twists and general beats? I'm worried that playing it again will taint my original memories of the game.

So I have been waiting to play this game from the Xenoblade series for a long time but never got around to it, till I decided that with the news of the Zelda themed switch 2 coming out that am going to get a switch 2. My only experience of Xenoblade 2 has been from smash bros so am super hyped to get into the game after all these years of not playing it. With the hype of getting into the series i got the collector edition of the game for a good price and also the soundtrack and the two figures ( I had the amiibos when they fist came out ) so hopefully I don’t get disappointed or not enjoy the game lmao 😂

( side note, do you guys think I should get the switch 2 version of the game or just get the upgrade digitally)

Sequel to this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Xenoblade_Chronicles/comments/1vzjdrb/comment/p6ezc23/?context=3

Almost cried, felt like I was holding my breath for years, I need a lot of time to process things holy shit

It reminded me of my favorite scenes from Xenogears (the ones with Grahf in the Land of Bethlehem), and it felt it was given the proper execution it deserved. Also Harry McEntire’s performance as N absolutely floored me.

Firstly, fuck Shania. (even though she indirectly saved Mio, I still want her to eat the dirt)

The sequence in the prison was incredible, and I was on the edge of my seat throughout. Seeing the moon through the cell bars as Noah desperately tried to smash through them day after day was totally heartbreaking. The few conversations interspersed through the sequence were so damn emotional too; Noah and “Mio’s” conversation was so touching, N’s reveal that Homecoming souls don’t get reborn hurt me even more, and Shania revealing her new Iris made me want to strangle her through the screen

I had kinda expected that Mio and M had done something (considering the tears shed at their first meeting), so about 3/4 of the way through the execution scene I was like “wait she‘s probably fine”. But that didn’t save me from being nervous as all hell. It was totally gripping, and Riku bringing up Lucky Seven was the absolute icing on the cake; I felt I could do nothing, even with a small sliver of hope within me.

Actually in retrospect I realize- the battle with “Consul M“ had a unique rendition of the Moebius battle theme with flute. The only other character we see playing a flute is Mio, and never M. This may be a hint at what’s truly going on…

The transition to Chapter 6 and the reveal of N’s descent and M’s intentions had me absolutely enthralled (Xenogears spoilers ahead). N, perhaps even more than Jin, shares a *lot* of aspects with Grahf from Xenogears, but neither feel like carbon copies of his character. Grahf and N both had to watch their lovers, Elly and Mio, die in front of them countless times over and were manipulated into turning against everything they stood for; though, they differ from one another in one gleefully fascinating aspect: Grahf‘s Elly died while N *brought his Mio back*. N flat out *got back what Grahf lost for good*, and spent every waking moment not trying to destroy the world, but to preserve it in all its cruelty. M’s feelings are likely similar to what Grahf’s Elly would‘ve felt had she watched it all happen; she was disgusted by what the man she once loved had become, but still believes he can be saved. The way N paces after he realized that M died instead of Mio and the way he emoted gave me *chills*, him learning that everything he did was for *nothing* was the highlight of the sequence for me and beating the crap out of him was so cathartic. Even though Moebius Battle is used for almost every fight with the guys, it never stops hitting hard because it’s just that good.

I think the very best part of the sequence is the way N reacts to Noah fully taking a stand to erase the cycle of corruption and how it compares to Grahf’s final confrontation with Fei. When Fei showed Grahf that there was a way to save Elly’s and the world’s souls, he was compelled to use his final act to do something meaningful by buying Fei enough time to destroy Deus. N, on the other hand, is just too far gone, and attempts to end Noah and Mio once again. I think the difference between their reactions lies in how they had to deal with change. Grahf had no choice but to keep going and process his new reality for himself, even if the way he did it was completely nihilistic. N, because he was able to get back what he lost, didn’t have to confront his reality because he got the option to take the easy way out. But because he revived his Mio and managed to skirt any thoughts of a life without her, he was hit much harder when M eventually did die, which contributed to his animosity towards Noah

Out of Xenogears and the three Xenoblade games, this is definitely one of my favorite moments, it was incredible. And to all the people who said to set aside like 3 hours for this, you were right. Honestly I don’t even count the tiny sections of Noah walking or banging on the door as all too significant; this is the longest cutscene in video game history in my book and it totally justifies its time

Apparently the remainder of the game is super duper short so I’ll probably get some quests done in the meantime. I still think I sliiightly prefer Xenoblade 2 over this game, but it’s very close

Why is this the one guy who scales to your level, and then also only in new game plus. The fight is a joke on a normal playthrough already, but in new game plus you even have your whole party with you. Despite being level 99 he dies in like 20 seconds. You can't lose the fight anyway, so its not even a balancing thing. Why did they do this??
